https://www.epicgames.com/fallguys/en-US/free-for-all-pre-registration

also everyone who launched the game before it goes f2p receives a Legacy Pack with cosmetics and a free Season Pass for Season 1 (source)

Btw the Steam version will be delisted like Rocket League, existing players can play through Steam, new players only through Epic.

Honestly, they use quite "diverse" methods, the most common is that they just fly through the map and grab the crown in the end, which completely removes the fun for me in the game.
I hope your son has a more pleasant experience, it is far from a bad game as the core mechanics are really fun, but given what happened to Rocket Leauge after Epic bought it, I don't know what the future will bring...

I'm asking because what you've mentioned about cheaters was what it was like for a few months before season 2 started back in 2020, which was before the addition of Easy Anticheat. Shorly after the anticheat was added there was a silent update where certain parameters were adjusted. Since that update, a little after season 2 began, I've played roughly 200 hours and I haven't come across any cheaters.

I used to spectate matches, and i rarely, but sometimes, saw obvious cheaters. Now that i think of it maybe in one out of 4-5 games or something a cheater were flying around.

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh yeah there has been a lot of cheaters long ago. I've lost to plenty of them.. a prime example is I would be at the end and about to grab the crown with no one around and then a cheater would fly past me and get it. It was extremely frustrating. I'm just glad they stopped it finally. That's not to say you might not see a cheater once in a great while still, while I haven't seen one for the longest time, that's not to say it doesn't ever happen.

Because Epic did buy Rocket League before, made it F2P, which did not made the best impact for the game. Now Fall Guys follows. I bought both games and I guess, it will be similar to RL. Buyers will get a compensation, but honestly I didn't feel compensated by it. But hey, who cares about my opinion, when it comes to money-making ;)

The cycle, as evidenced by Psyonix (Rocket League devs):

  • Multiplayer game releases to popular fanfare
  • Devs bought by Epic Games
  • ----> [Mediatonic is here] Game goes F2P and gets delisted from Steam
  • Unlocks get even grindier and/or have paywalls
  • Content previously found in DLC resurfaces for many times its prior price

Since I never played Fall Guys, I am not loosing anything. No matter how much I hate EPIC starting a console war on my PC.

Though because of recent bundles. I have in my possession to DLC packs and though. Why not get Fall Guys and give it a shot. Though now I might as well just pass it up. Since there are not trading card. I have lost all interest in it as a dead game now.

If you don't have it on steam and you want it on steam. BUY IT NOW from some key shop before the price goes insane levels. I hope they key is real as well. Get it from Humble before they run out of keys. Reveal the key before they run as well.

The Legacy Pack is kinda disappointing. I thought they would give loads of cosmetics like how they did when Rocket League went F2P but they only gave a couple stuff.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

RL just gave a specific selection of the existing DLC packs, which ended up somewhat screwing anyone who paid for those (as I don't recall any of them getting any credit compensation for owning the packs). [And all those cosmetics ended up being easily obtainable through reward drops following that shift to F2P, so all you really got was some free drops.] Comparatively, those who had bought all the OTHER DLC packs ended up lucking out, as $2.99 car packs ended up costing around $15 in credits after the switch. Geesh.

Basically, it was a hot mess, just like everything related to Psyonix and/or Epic.

From what I see from the splash, as someone who doesn't have Fall Guys (and now presumably won't ever be able to play it, given Epic's continued lack of attention to self-development), aren't these exclusive cosmetics? And even if they aren't, the real draw of the Legacy Pack is the included "Season 1 Pass", meaning you're presumably still getting something concrete out of it.

Basically, from an objective standpoint, this seems a LOT better than the RL Legacy Pack. Even from a subjective standpoint, I gotta imagine most people'd prefer the Fall Guys bonuses, given how nothing from the RL Pack was exclusive or holding of any clear monetary value post-F2P. ...well, I think there was an exclusive nickname or something? Nothing memorable, anyway.

Previous owners could still also pre-register with the same Epic account that was already linked to their Steam account.

Since there were less than a million pre-registrations, we only unlocked the first perk which would have been the nameplate "Keen Bean". However I didn't receive that one as well while I did get the legacy pack. Not sure what their plan is with that.

Can we have a rule here to ban the mention of Epic Games?

Permalink

And what purpose would that serve?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually yeah you're right, we should be actively telling people not to engage with that scumbag company and their shady practices, not ban the use of their name.
Here's my reasons for hating Epic:

Buying developers with already published games on Steam, promising they will stay on Steam but then removing them anyway and forcing users to create Epic accounts to continue playing games they already bought and could always play without one (Rocket League and Fall Guys are the two games I can think of that have done this).

Removing Linux support for Rocket League so Linux users who bought the game can no longer play it.

Sending a user's requested GDPR data to a different user.

Paying for games to release exclusively on Epic Games Store, especially after some of those games had already announced to release on Steam.

Patching Epic Online Services into already published Steam games to inflate their own platform user count without users knowing they're being signed up to Epic Games accounts.

Very laggy launcher if you own a lot of games

Finally, creating the problem of Steam and EGS players not being able to play with each other on select games and then acting like saviours when they recently released their PC crossplay tools which again forces Steam users to use the already mentioned Epic Online Services and have an account made for them.

And these are just my reasons for hating them, come over to r/fuckepic for many, many more.

Oh, no no. It's not like anybody was disagreeing with you. It's just this has already been discussed at lenght repeatedly and people have grown tired of it.

I'd say let sellout devs take the Epic check, sell their 7000 copies on Epic during 1 year exclusivity and then pick up their games for an apple and an egg when they come to Steam. Afterall it's already a year old.

True 😄

I only have so much hatred in me and as long as companies like Amazon or Foodora Delivery Hero exist Epic and Tencent have to get in line.

Also I personally find Microsoft Gamepass and how sucessful it is much more worrying than Epic could ever be.

Everyone always screams about "big companies", but nobody seems to think that they're all made up of people... not every employee necessarily wants one and the same thing, besides making a living.

Personally, I've claimed a bunch of games when they were free on Epic, but it's not like I'll ever realistically get to them, considering my Steam and PS backlog, both of which are expanding as we speak. It'd have to take a trip to some obscure alternate universe for Epic to ever trump Steam; I feel like even people who don't really play games have heard of Steam somewhere, as opposed to Epic, the "I guess they made that one game?" company.

This one is actually Valve's fault, and has existed before Epic was a thing. Steam online features are exclusive to the Steam client (non-Steam versions of a game can't use Steam's online services). So expect more and more games to start using Epic or Microsoft accounts for online instead of Steam since those services don't have that limitation, unless Valve finally opens their service to be used outside Steam client.

More games can start to use Epic or Microsoft accounts but they will also start to lose players including me. If I'm using Steam, I want to be using Steam. Not a buggy spyware launcher with no features or in the case of Microsoft, not having to reinstall my games constantly cause they break on every update (had to reinstall Forza Horizon 5 twice).
