I have an iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1 and I want to upgrade to iOS 6.1, but I have one concern.

I upgraded to iOS 6.0.1 before, but the battery drain was so terrible, normally if I unplug my fully charged iPhone from a power source for a few hours, it'd go down to around 80%, but if it's on iOS 6.0.1, it'd go down to merely 20%.

iOS 6.1 was out some time ago, it was said to fix that problem for some users, but I fear this may not work for mine.

So, should I upgrade to iOS 6.1?

Maybe you could wait it out until everything is more stable then. 5.1.1 works good enough for now?

Yeah, like what Reace said. Better safe than sorry, right?

I'm currently on an old 2nd gen 16gb with 4.2.1 so I'm excluded from MANY of the apps I want to use(the Steam app for example). Getting a 3rd gen 32gb for $50 from a friend, and I hear the max is 5.1.1 which is sounding even more better to me after your results with iOS6. Results may vary ofcourse. I'm not too knowledgeable about the iOS and all that, so it is possible for you to downgrade since you said you've done it before? Try it again, see if it's fixed, if not downgrade again?

Apple is a company that if you hate them, you have to tell everybody, aparently.

When do I mention I hate them. I am simply offering a solution.

A solution would rather be, don't buy an iPhone rather than not buying Apple products. Also, as he already has the phone, and seems at least somewhat content with it, I'd say it's a somewhat unneccessary solution. Sure, everybody deserves their own opinion, but as long as the question isn't "should I buy an iPhone or not", I'm just sick tired of all this hate for Apple as soon as any of their products are mentioned. I don't say you're hating the company, it just gets alot of undeserved and immature hate (and love, to be fair)

iPhone 4 sucks.. 4S is good. That the battery is drain too fast is from the phone and how long its been used, not the system or upgrade.

no, that is a bad idea, actually you should had stick to 4.3.3 as the hardware you have in a 4 is not fully prepared to run at full speed 5.x+ apps
(well, yeah, depends on what you do with it actually :D)

They should have fixed the battery drain problem. I have no more problem with the battery drain as always with smartphones.

i'm Android user, so i don't know if that maps issue is already solved
(as for me that would be the impassable drawback)

You can download Google maps now so that's a moot point. Still, I stay away from iOS so I don't have such issues.

My sister has an iPhone4 and has been using the latest iOS versions as they come out but she's never experienced any extreme battery loss, apart from when using badly coded jailbreak tweaks.
