I'd even recommend you to buy GTA 1-2 ^^
GTA 3 is OK, Vice City is really great; played it a lot before. I have bad memories for San Andreas, but, objectively there is a vast map and a lot of fun in San Andreas. $7.50 is a steal, insta-grab them!
Note: Characters' hand fingers are glued, keep in mind :3

i summed up your name, your question and "no nostalgia bias". i'm really confused at the moment.

For now, GTA3 is too old, I'm afraid. It is too much like GTA4, so despite my love to it I think it's the weakest game from the point of view of a player new to the series. Though it's still good, can't deny that. GTA: Vice City represents 80's in all the glory. Funny missions, references to some famous movies and overall feeling can be a great fun for you. But you still can't swim. GTA: San Andreas is a huge sandbox with a 90's style. Incredible amount of possibilities, less serious, much more crazy and full of dumb fun. If you liked The Ballad of Gay Tony and Saints Row games, you may very well like this game.

Thanks to GTA3 there are games like modern GTA games, GTA 5 etc.

I woul definatly recommend GTA vice city, and San Andreas. ive played GTA III and although it started out alright at the half point of the game when plot starts going down EVERY FACTION HATES YOU and without an invincibility cheat you can no longer have much fun roamin as every gang member and mafia person WILL try to kill you some with GRENADE launchers which will insta kill u if ur in a car

Vice City is the best from the GTA series, IMHO.
SA was fun, but a bit too much running around at times + insanelly annoying plane missions.
GTA III, for me, is a little gem. I loved how gloomy and kind of depressive the game was.

Recently played 3 again and it really hasn't aged well at all to be honest and you will probably need cheats as person below says, can't even use cover or anything lol. It isn't worth playing now to me at least/. Vice City and San Andreas are still definitely worth playing though.

Eh, as far as the modern games go, I always thought IV's controls were a bit......off. Not sure how to fully explain that.
I'll admit that V is much better than IV though. I still prefer San Andreas in the end.
Out of the old ones, I think 3 is the only one that didn't age very well, and that could easily be attributed to the fact that it was really the first game of its kind so it didn't get any of the refinement that the later games got.

Since the old GTA games are better and feel more along the lines of SR1+2 I would have to say yes, go for it.

That video made me download and play it again!

GTA San Andreas is still amazing, there are complete overhauls to bring its graphics (close) to the level of GTA IV. GTA Vice City is my favorite from the series, it has the amazing 80s vibe to it, the setting and the music is brilliant but its also really out of date. GTA III is "alright" with quite bad graphics haha. I grabbed the GTA Complete pack (III, VC, SA, IV, Liberty City Stories) for 4.5 keys(around $8) on steamtrades.

As a new player, I'd say no. These games are great if you played them back in their time, they still are great for nostalgia. You might not like them as a new player after all these years though.

Yes they're great, there's also mods to improve the graphics tremendously for SA. SA alone is worth it.

I say yes, but GTA is a good series. It really depends on how you feel about taking a step back in time. They are excellent games in their own right. They are a different type of fun than the HD version. They are a more cartoony, but still killing style vs GTA 4 where you feel like you are in a real world. If all else fails I'd recommend watching like a GTA 3, GTA Vice City, or GTA San Andres playthrough on youtube. I recommend watching SSoHPKC playing them if you want an idea of how it is. I enjoy his sarcastic humor.

Currently, you can get GTA III + Vice City + SA for PC for only $7.50 on Amazon.
I already own GTA 4 and SR3&4. Would it be worth it to get the old games, or do they not stack up to GTA 4/SR Series? No nostalgia bias please, just as unbias an opinion as possible.
