It's only losing new features. The technical support lasts till 2020.

I still using XP for music production, and Win7 for gaming.
I pass about technical support, honestly.
There are great tutorials and workarounds in internet.

Have a nice day :)

Read the goddamn article before announcing fire and brimstone ffs!

"Microsoft has promised to provide security patches even after it ends mainstream support, through 2020. What is ending is design changes, warranty claims and no-charge incident support."

A normal home customer does not do warranty claims and incident support (if you are using an OEM version on your laptop, you are not even entitled for incident support!). The ONLY thing that could somehow affect you that it won't get design changes. Practically this means just and only missing Dx12 support.

Nice, while I was listening to the MOOD MUSIC, I found something interesting on right side where Youtube has suggestions, try to listen this and read the news about Win7 not giving support: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjN7A8vmPPo

I'd like to use Linux, but it does not support a lot of games I'd like to play.
By the way, why do you even need that technical support? Everything is working alomst perfect, if something didnt then you just use google and fix it.

I never had any problems with drivers.
Also it's all about learning how it works. It is as simple as windows, just different.

Maybe you're right in that, I dunno.
And yes, KDE is horrible. All cute and stuff, but not practical.

i have radeon and everything works fine. i even have a laptop to add for interesting things ;)
if you want to do editing, there's a distro called UbuntuStudio which is great for that kind of work.

ok, and you never had missing dll errors on windows? right. and apps that would like you to have different os or service pack? check.

a lot of people don't like Linux because they think it's hard to learn it, so they just stick to crappy windows os or, even worse, to macs. It's not 90s, Linux has over few thousand different distros, you can perfectly find best distro for you and your needs. Most distros DO have GUI and it's not only command line usage anymore, while you still do have to use it once in a while.
If you are confident to learn, it can be done pretty quick.

Damn you, Microsoft, for not supporting an old product of yours anymore many years after the successor was released!

A Tablet OS is not a successor, only a money sink.

I don't know whether i should respond to that. If you think an OS is a tablet OS because its GUI is mouse+keyboard AND touch optimized, you're either a troll or simply don't know what you're talking about

if the metro gui had been optimized for mouse usage from the start, it wouldn't become such a Vista-style PR-debacle

It was usable right from the start. But, yeah, there have been some minor annoyances that MS has fixed by now. However, calling it a tablet OS is just plain stupid. It's a real PC OS that's better than W7 in almost every regard AND it can be used on a tablet, too

usable != optimized, I guess.

When I tried it on beta it was awkward, implemented like an afterthought on the asumption that suddenly everyone would use (or even have) a touch enabled device.

Forcing this, leaving no choice, several other bugs/issues and the metro style ugliness did not let me (and apparently many others) reconsider it for years..

A shame for all the technical improvements...

Even if I use Win. 7 after extended support, what will happen? I know it might be more vulnerable, but will just a virus protection go against that?

Windows 8.1 doesn't seem terrible, but I'm a big fan of 7 and came late to the party. I stuck with XP for a long, long time, both because Vista was terrible and I didn't feel like shelling out money for another OS. I'll keep using 7 at least until January, but I wouldn't be surprised to keep using it after that. I would have to find an actual reason to upgrade, rather that just because Microsoft wants me to.

Fuck Win 8, just lets hope they release a new and better OS till 2020.

Well, Win 7 will be perfectly fine until January 2020, so no need to panic... yet.
Though I do find this outrageous, I suspect that Win8 isn't very successful (whose demented idea it was to mix PCs and touch screen menus, anyway? That stuff belongs to smartphones and tablets!), so Microsoft is trying to force us to use that ugly garbage, whether we like it or not.

Well, there is no way I'll change to Win8, so I'm sticking with Win7 for the next ten years or so :D

I prefer to lear to use Linux and try the STEAM OS instead of install W8.

if you don't have steam machine, steam os is pretty terrible.
it's basically reskinned debian 7 distro with steam preinstalled. there's no os-specific features on it. you can get much better os without it.
