Hello all. I won a gift but it is region restricted. I try to send it back directly via steam and e-mail but it doesn't work because he already owns the game. The game is in my inventory. What can I do?

The game is Silence of sleep. "This is a restricted gift which can only be redeemed in these countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Bahamas, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil, Mexico."

  1. Add friend.
  2. Send via inventory.
  3. Ask for ROW copy.
  4. If not provided, mark as "not received" after 7 days.

Get in touch with the gifter, he may have an alternate account you can send the gift to. And of course, if he/she doesn't provide you with a non-locked gift or key, mark it not received.

First of all - did crator mention anything about possible region lock?

Anyway, when GA is over, creator have to send you a working key. This may sound harsh because he send you a game, but because you can't ativate it, it's like he didn't send you anything. So, conntact him, tell him that key (or rather a gift) isn't working and he have 7 days to send you a working key. No matter how nice he (or she) will be don't mark it as received because you might have problems because of that - people will think that you regifted a game or something like that.

Of course, there might be other things you can do. For example you can tell him to delete GA and left a comment there that you are okay with that. You won't receive a game but creator will have a clean sheet, and his only 'punishment' will be minus one to games in his inventory.
IMO thing is a little hard because he actually send you a game, and (as you stated) you can't send it back to him so maybe try to contact support.

And again, it might sound harsh, but after all rules are rules - creator have to send you a working key so if you want, you have a full right to demand a working key from him.

Thank you guys for replies. I sent the gift to his friend. I said him to open a ticket for removing or rerolling.
I ll mark as not received after 7 days.

That's a extra nice thing to do, but I think that if creator will reroll winner you won't have a chance to mark it as not received because, duh, you won't longer be a winner.

I think some people with bigger experience on SG than me should confirm this, I'm here for about one month.

yeah if it will be removed, thats ok for me. Probably it was an accident but I ll not mark as received. I sent gift to his friend via e-mail but it is still in my inventory? When his friend accept the gift , it will go away I hope.

if it gets rerolled, no one but the maker and the first winner will ever know (and support ofcourse).

What? You gave it to another person? That's not a wise thing to do...

SG now allows you to make a region restricted giveaway by selecting the correct region. Not knowing is not an excuse. The rules say the person has to deliver a working key, so you have to ask for a working key, and if it's not provided, you mark it as not received and move along. The person CANNOT reroll under that circumstance.

No he didn't mention about region restriction but I don't want to be harsh. Maybe he didn't know that its region restricted. So I'll mark as not received, I hope he will open a ticket and remove that giveaway.

Well, that's not your problem. But, yeah, mark it as not received, and give back the game. But you said you gave it to another person... That's not a good thing to do. :/

I can not give him back directly because he already own the game. I tried to e-mail him, he said it didnt work, also I can not sent through steam because he owns the game. So I asked him if he has a friend or smth to send this game, he gave another e-mail address and I sent it but it still in my inv, Probably his friend didn't accept it yet but I don't want this game in my inventory because of region restriction. Yes maybe it is better to remove it, probably somebody else have this problem again if reroll.
I asked him to send non-region restricted version but he gave me a link to his steamtrade post and said to me choose another game. :)
Then, I try to explain him how steamgifts work. As far as I know you can not change the game u won. I need to add the game I won in my library in 7 days. So I ll mark as not received at the end if support don't remove the giveaway.

Ah, I see, HE asked you to give it to a friend. It sounded like you couldn't get hold of him, and just picked one of his friend to give the game. :P

Yes, that's what you should do. :/

This is odd. cause he can choose South America as a region restriction GA.
oh well, if you agreed to let him re roll, he can hope that the next winner will be from there.

best option for him is to ask for a delete of that said GA and make a new one with region restriction.

Yes, agreed. Also, I sent him this post so he can read suggestions about this situation.

ok I gave the gift to his friend and he accepted. So, the game is not in my inv, I gave it back. When admin remove the giveaway, problem will be solved. Thanks for your suggestions.
