So i've just recently hit 225 games on steam ( measly amount i know ) and that's already too many for me. I like to play games for a while, get into them, get as many achievements as possible and such. With 225 in my Steam's library i struggle to find enough time for even 5 or 6 of them i have currently installed.

Only thing saving me is that i have SSD and amount of games i can have installed at one moment is really limited.

It depends on what is counted as a game and what is in my eyes pushed out for trading cards protifz, I don't consider being "proud" over half my libary probably.
If anyone know a website that would calculate my overall ratings of the game on Steam even if they are not reliable at all id be more than happy, or sad when I see the result ofc :'D

I suppose it would be when you don't have enough freetime to play them all through.
I'm already at that point, but I'm also someone who prefers to keep on playing the same five games.

Whenever your Collector badge levels up.. it makes you stop and think. When you run out of new Collector badge levels, you officially have too many.

My backlog is large, but i've been up to the task. In the past 3 weeks, i've beaten 13 games. I am proud of myself.

I think it's important to consider it over a time period, and how much free time you have to play them. Over a lifetime I would say around a thousand games seems decent for me.

I still have around 150 Spectrum games from 30 years ago. You can never have too many games, many too many crap one's maybe but there's always gonna be games which take ya fancy. :D

Games are too many when you don't play 99% of them :D

I didn't feel as though I had too many until I surpassed 500. Now that I'm over 800, I feel as though there are at least 100 games in my library that I'm never going to play.

The moment you feel overwhelmed is probably too many. Depends on the individual.

I decided not to vote, I think in a normal situation there isn't a "too many games." As long as you're taking care of important things like bills, food, etc. and you're actually playing each game, then there is no limit. Especially in the case of games where there is a clear end to it. It's always nice to have a couple of games to bounce between.

For me, currently 500+. I'm at 585 or something. I've only competed a fourth of them. I think I have just 5-10 I had no intention of playing: games I've gotten in those damn stupid blind giveaways while trying for something else I've wanted.

But let's check back in a couple of years, maybe then I've completed over 500 games. Who knows.

10% of unfinished games is excessive.

I do have too many games probably, but it doesn't ever feel that way to me. I have a great organisation system in place, and I do finish a lot of games. Yes there are some I only added because they 'looked alright' and I thought maybe one day I'll play them. But for the most part I can ignore those without feeling guilty. Every game that I have actually wanted or wishlisted will get played, and finished (or as close as possible). So when you consider the number of new games being added, and the fact games can't be traded or swapped like in the old days, then I think there's no real limit of 'too many'. As long as I am having fun, and am able to find games to play at any time, then where's the harm?

What number is too many depends on another question: for what? For doing a full walkthrough of some really awesome game, with a 100% of "secrets" - probably 2 per year is enough, especially if you don't have a lot of time. Or for occasionally playing some level/map - a few games per year added to this 'special" list is a plenty, as during a few years you can discover a lot of such pleasant games (like FTL, Civ games, some arcades, some board games etc. you can have installed all the time, playing occasionally). But what is "too many" to own on account?

For me games are a kind of art.
What kind of gamer would reject an account with every game in the world, ready to play? It would be very convenient to launch anything that comes in the mood at any free time. Personally, I wouldn't bother that there is a lot on this account that I would never touch - most important is to have a choice and to do the best one at every moment. I value my own time more than most of the other things, especially incoming from other's minds/opinions, and it works quite well.
Some games are interesting because of clever mechanics, some create wonderful feeling when immersed in the game setting, some are very beautiful visually. Some have characters you like very much. Some are worthy just as one-time experience. There is so much different things, like in most of the other arts: literature, music, cinematography..
Speaking of games, I never felt obliged with playing to the end if I didn't enjoy it; or felt like I already saw everything interesting in a particular game and I am saturated with it. It is like looking at an art picture or listening to a particular concert - you can enjoy it, finding new nice things or experiencing old ones, but sometimes you feel like you got the most of it you can for now - it doesn't matter because of what limits - yours or of an item in question (latter becomes more frequent option as person becomes more refined). More important is to look forward to something more useful at the moment, for another things to experience or to learn for yourself, or things that you would enjoy better, leaving the old things sometimes forever and sometimes to return shortly. Point is not to be stuck, especially because of own stubbornness or some silly rules you defined for yourself.

Some people decided that "owning" a digital copy of a game implies something relative and questionable (being a comme il faut finishing every game, getting achievements etc.). Other people like to show a steam account to others - "Look, I have only 100 games but I played them all to the end". Well, I guess for them it is a way to prove something to themselves; or to feel themselves as a unity with some particular group they are eager to associate themselves with, etc. For any, even peculiar thing there is as many reasons as thinking people and as many recurrences as mediocrities Doesn't matter. There is no difference in how others use their resources, more valuable is to do yourself conscious choices, best you can figure out at every moment.

Then another point. Why not to take the best you can from all the sources? Life is so short. Probably you can't imagine how short. Sometimes people understand this only facing serious illness or experiencing something very sad. If you realize you don't want to do something you thought was a good idea in your past - don't do it. You are disappointed with anything - if you have a choice, choose something better. The best if you can clearly see it.
I have a lot of such a games activated, which in the past I thought I may probably check, but now I wouldn't even download. I also activated some extra crap I got from bundles in addition to games I wanted at some point, thinking that I can sell these cards off just to return some epsilon sum of money (oh how prudent), but I dropped the idea of bothering with cards after first "round" of selling, this was so tedious.. Basically anyone can earn more money per hour doing a job they actually enjoy, so why bother if they did something to enable this option
Especially a lot of crap I activated during few years before December, 2016 when I found SG. By the way I feel a bit bad giving away crap. Probably one day I will stop buying these bundles mooww except HB they are so good.. for now and give away only decent games ;3

Yes I wouldn't mind to have an account with every game I like or will like during my life, to have a choice. And then probably pick the most appealing cherries! <3 Even better theoretically would be to have an account with only great games which I will love and have time to enjoy. Unfortunately or not, I don't know this future and can continue only doing things my way. So there is no too many games as long as they are awesome! Some number definitely smaller than plus infinity because I will die eventually and probably before that lose interest in games completely :3

Mm how this post got so big. I know you piggy and probably everybody else don't really need any of my answers. All you need is love. So. Just have a bump :D

According to my BLAEO profile (that's not being updated all the time) I finished 243 games :D
And I think quite easily could find similar amounts in my library, or others that I don't own yet.
(Obviously, there are games that I don't plan to play, either because bought them for the cards, or meanwhile regretted them and/or found similar, but better ones)
So, I don't know. Just having a lot of games doesn't mean that they don't try way harder/spend more time on them than you or me, and as long as they have them and play them, I wouldn''t classify it as too many games :)

I'd say 700 - 800. Noone would have time to REALLY play so much game. And people with game count >100 are addicted hoarders :D
