We are pleased to let you know that on December 8th we will be upgrading all copies of Saints Row IV to Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. This includes Saints Row IV: Game of The Century Edition. This means that players who own Saints Row IV in any capacity will be automatically upgraded to Saints Row IV: Re-Elected.

Very nice, so I only have to buy the base game and get the complete version in a few days?

Yeah, but the GOTC edition hasn't been that much more expensive than the base game anyways. Also Saints Row IV: Re-Elected will be one of the next freebies on Epic.

What's Saints Row IV: Re-Elected? Some kind of remaster? I already have GOTC edition, will there be any new content?

Comment has been collapsed.

Nothing new. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected until now basically was the console version of Saints Row IV: Game of The Century Edition.

I see, thanks. It seems I have one unredeemed key for vanilla SR4, I wonder if they will "upgrade" it as well.

That is what this is about, yes.

But the PS4 console version has graphical updates and some new particles for example.

Maybe you're thinking of Saints Row 3 Remastered?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

He's right. The re-elected was a "remastered" version for consoles, since the original SR 4 is for the ps3 era. So they changed a few things when bringing it to ps4 and xbox one. The re-elected version was only available for pc on the MS Store, and I've always wondered if it actually has anything different. Back when I searched, I couldn't find any comparison on youtube between the regular pc version and this re-elected on pc, so I'm still not sure to this day if there actually is any difference or if it's just a case of this console re-release having better graphical presets that were already available on the regular pc version.

That's why I was confused too, I was looking at pc vs ps4 comparisons and pc looks way better.

Saints Row IV: Re-Cycled

Epic Games Store account requirement, no other changes :P

And on the same day that Epic will be giving Saints Row IV: Re-Elected away for free.
Also the crossplay is nice.
I like when devs realize having a bunch of different editions and scattered DLC gets confusing and settle on an ultimate edition with everything or at least everything up to a point. Love it when they do a free upgrade for those who already spend the cash on older editions.
I'll be grabbing the Epic version since I don't own the base game on Steam.

No. It's a replacement. All other versions will be "unusable".

All other versions and separate DLC will be removed from sale as of December 8th and will no longer be useable.

Crap, there goes my save file then I guess.
Wonder if I should download the GOG version and leave the installer stored somewhere just to have a backup.

Clarification from devs

A Legacy Version of Saints Row IV will be also be available via a separate Beta Branch on GOG and Steam.
To access the old version of Saints Row IV, right click on the game in your library, go to properties > beta and use the dropdown menu to select the version you want.
for more help with this: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/276C-85A0-C531-AFA3
However the differences between old and new versions will be minimal, and save games will be compatible.

Will the Australian version finally be uncensored?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

TL;DR version: No.

Michael Watson, Community Manager - Deep Silver Volition: Sorry, but it will never be available for purchase in your region. [>>]

Longer version:

I'll never understand why gamers from countries that engage in censorship, invariably seem to frame things so that the onus- or at least the responsibility- is on the developer/publisher, rather than the relevant governing board of whichever country is in question. There's not really much those releasing the games can do about censorship demands, since they're (rather intuitively) not the individuals pushing for such in the first place.

It's extremely rare that the publisher is behind censoring (though there are one or two major publishers known for doing it as a default just to avoid the hassle of butting heads against regional censorship; though in a sense that'd still be on the given country for encouraging such a response), and- afaik- it's almost unheard of for a developer to do it themselves (after all, what would developers need publishers for, if they could simply ruin the vision they had for their game development on their own? 🙄).

That said, all that's censored in the australian version should be a short drug-related mission being removed, as well as an anal probe weapon being removed, so it's not like you're fundamentally missing anything of note to begin with.

That said, an uncensored version WAS temporarily available to Australian PS4 owners, at one point, due to a glitch.. so perhaps you missed out, there.

So no, it's not at all likely you'll be able to get an uncensored version in Australia- of this or any other censored game- unless you succesfully petition for a change in Australia's morality laws (in line with how Germany recently reformed its own such laws). Well, though the censoring of SR4 in Australia did lead to some entertaining alternative ideas of resolution from gamers, so perhaps you can instead try to convince Volition to release the "Censored Australian Edition" in its full, proper glory: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1jq8lm/saints_row_iv_censoredforaustralia_edition_cant/

To be fair that is an 8 year old post and the wording of Re-Elected announcement suggests there will be no DLC, as in it will all be included in the game, not separate.

Plus they haven't mentioned Australia or Germany at all in the announcement which has a lot of people confused and wondering, considering it is a well known thing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Weird, I read their post as "Will they finally uncensor the Australian version", hence my reply focusing on that perspective. You're right, that was unfair relative to the actual phrasing, as it's definitely reasonable to more broadly enquire into such a matter, even relative to what may be a long-shot outcome.

That said, it IS a censorship issue, so unless Australia has changed their practices like Germany has, it'd still be an issue. As far as I understand it, Australia doesn't allow for an unrated version to be release, and their ratings strictly prohibit the content in question, leading to a complete blockage (similar to Germany and any kind of Nazi imagery, previously).

Anyway, apology to ERROR for my likely taking the intent of their topic askew.

haha no you raised a very valid point, it is unlikely censorship was changed and approved so there isn't much hope.

Actually you have also reminded me, I think Australia also got something else cut ... the Thumper gun or something. I recall the chariot race segment is almost impossible to do without a certain gun, one which was cut in the AU release.

i hope other game companies start taking a page out of their book. more companies need to be this kind to their player base with their older gen games. but i guess some companies enjoy being able to re-release the same game over and over with a price tag lol. example skyrim 1, skyrim 2, skyrim 3, skyrim VR and skyrim remastered 1 and 2

Shame they're going the route of just updating the base game instead of registering a new AppID and granting it to all SR4 packages. Guess they gotta save the 100 bucks

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

One option is to keep it offline without updating the game. The other, theoretically, is you can retrieve an archive of the original game, but there's a whole convoluted process to go about it and you're gambling on whether a backup of it exists.

Other than that, it doesn't appear this is reversible any other way.

I do not understand your concern. They are just including DLCs for free and adding crossplay. This is not a remaster and there are no graphical changes. Also, your saves will be converted, so there really is no point in keeping the old .exe. If you were able to run the old .exe file, this will be exactly the same besides the networking system.

Game crashes to desktop after the upgrade. Can't continue my game.

For now I don't recommend to update your version, maybe new game work, but with the epic integration, I think they will have to bugfix the hell out of this. Legacy version did't work either.

Okay, so I've removed the "upgrade" from the queue for now. That's all I need to do to keep (and play) my old version, right?

I wasn't too happy about a forced upgrade that includes all the DLC in the first place, because my experience with SR3 taught me that most DLC just throws free stuff into your inventory, which I don't want. And if it's true they also integrated Epic's malware in the Steam version I definitely don't want this upgrade.

Damn, I wish I'd downloaded the good version before they messed it up with Epic's junk. Already owned all the DLC so this is just a downgrade to me. Never would have bought it if I knew they were going to pull something like this.

Hopefully the legacy branch doesn't have any of the new horrible changes.
