So how does Humble bundle base the restrictions on? Is it the current IP (Is it bypasable by VPN)? or is it the buyer's credit card information or the moment of the Games redeem that defines your country
Honestly i have a monthly gifted and the last monthly has a restricted game based on my country and i was wondering how can i consider it Worldwide copy for next times.

It's based on IP address right now, as far as I know, since they distribute keys, and activation restriction on Steam keys is based on IP address as well.

(Btw, you can edit the category of this post to General, since Deals section is displayed on the main page to inform of current deals)

Yes, it is bypassable by VPN, but it is violation of their Terms and therefore you can get banned.

Region lock is done at the time of a purchase.
For instance, if you buy monthly as a gift from Africa and send that to a friend from Europe, a friend from a Europe will receive Africa locked keys.

after trying myself it depends on your IP adress when you redeem the link not on the buyer s region

Yes, if you buy Monthly as a gift to someone in Europe, they should receive a key for Europe, doesn't matter what country the gifter is from, at least that's how I understand that.

No, that isn't true. They will receive games region locked to purchasers region.

hmm, I just got traded giftlink for monthly and it clearly has not my European region locks, so I am pretty sure that it is getting locked with a purchase, not redeem.

A giftlink is locked at the region of the person that bought the bundle/monthly, so that is correct.

I made a gift link yesterday and it tells me before I make it what the region restrictions are.

I just had the idea there was a different between a gift link an a gifted bundle because when I bought a gift Humble Monthly it said nothing about be careful about region locks as far as I remember.

Is there a difference between region lock and country restriction because it seems like the country restrictions in the November bundle are based on US trade restrictions, so wouldn't that be different from a key being only redeemable in a region like Europe or Africa due the purchased being made there?

Any restrictions by Humble on gift links and such are done by countries, and said restrictions on countries may or may not align with certain regions.

Humble's country restrictions just as restrictive or more restrictive than what Steam has for different app ids for a given game. It can get complicated, and I dont know exactly why things are exactly why they are, because it can be different for every game.

What I can tell you is that Steam generally has two types of country restrictions that can appear on one of the multiple specific app ids a game can have:

  • "Allowed to activate": For the given app id, ONLY the countries listed can activate the key.

  • Banned: For the given app id, the countries listed CANNOT activate the key.

Example: 11-11 Memories Retold. Most app ids have no region restrictions, and a few apps can only be activated in certain regions. Humble tends not to give the game to the group of countries that have an exclusive app. So that explains what was discovered in the SG thread.. HOWEVER, anyone outside of those regions gets an unrestricted key, which itself can be activated anywhere. But gift links aren't allowed to those list of countries.

I do this all the time with no problems so I can say with utmost confidence on what I'm about to say:

You get your region locked based on the purchaser's region at the time of purchase IF you are being given giftlinks of individual games. HOWEVER you get your region locked based on the redeemer's region at the time of redemption IF you are being gifted the entire monthly.

Quote taken from the HB support article: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/202712460-Purchasing-and-Sending-Gifts#partial

NOTE: All purchases made on your account, whether personal purchase or gift purchase, will be tied to your region. This means that any region locked keys may not work if your friend lives in a different region! When using the "Gift to a friend" option you will see a pop up warning displaying pertinent information.

The only exception to this would be if you purchased a gift monthly subscription for a friend. In this instance, your friend would receive keys assigned to their region upon redeeming the gift.
