It is based on the value of the game in US dollars. A $4.99 game will cost 5 points to enter for example.

I added you to my whitelist one month ago. So I dont hate you, nor has it ever been my intention to personally troll you or anyone here.

As mentioned, it's just the Steam dollar price rounded up to the nearest dollar. There is a cap at 50 points for entry only, but if the game is worth more you get the appropriate CV.
If Steam does not display dollar prices for you, you can use SteamPrices, and just search (you can add regions to get price comparisons). For example, "State of Mind" is 30 points:
https://www.steamprices.com/uk/search/?p=1&q=State%20of%20Mind
You can even force Steam to give you dollar prices, in case you are in a different region. You need to log out (or use a private browser window) and add '&cc=us' to your query:
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=State%20of%20Mind&cc=us

Thanks for your help. I didn't knew about the fix US $-link (kind of a shame since I'm around here quite some time now). Thanks to Enhanced steam I can see the US prices. Thank you anyways for the helpful links and tipps on how to see the US prices.
But still it always needs a click while searching for the game, which is pretty uncomfortable especially when creating trains with ESGST. So I specified my question above.

And my reading comprehension is poor! I haven't seen a script that modifies the creation page so that you see the value prior to review. You might suggest it as an enhancement to ESGST then.

I think Gibor is trying to work this out without having to click review giveaway. Looks like there isn't a way yet.

I have a similar issue as I am in a group with multiple trains with different point criteria. Finding out whether a game costs x points is annoying. I use the charts in the forums to see what value dollar they are and its usually one point per dollar rounded up if they were in bundles I bought (Humble/Fanatical etc.). However old bundles can mean incorrect prices so I also use steam or https://isthereanydeal.com/ to check prices beforehand. Looks like veebles down below may have the answer you are looking for but you would need to use a script.

Yes, SG does not store historical prices.
So if game cost now 19,99$ it will show as 20P giveaway. But if price drops to 9,99$ in a 2 years, all giveaways (future, present and past) will show as 10P.
Also easy way to check how much points will be required to enter giveaway is to install script that adds link to SteamDB page. It stores current price in dollars. Only thing to remember is that points to enter are capped at 50. So 70 dollar unbundled game will require 50 points to enter, and give 70CV.

Aside from SG Archive, there is the SG Community Wishlist which shows the price of every game according to SG. Points = Price rounded to the the nearest $1 USD.
Archive will fail to give you point values for a game if the only GA link(s) are not accessible due to being invite only, group only, etc

That would be a useful addition to the site, indeed.

I know this, but especially when creating a train, this is one step to far. I.e. if I want to add some wagons to the community train that is riding right now, I cannot just press on review to find out, if one of the games is above the 5 points barrier. The whole point of my question was, if there is a way to show this before going into review. But obviously this is indeed so far not possible.
EDIT: 😆👍

I found the problem! I had the option enabled but in "Where to run it on SteamGifts?" only "Custom": "^/discussion" was enabled by default. Now I added "My Giveaways - New" and it works absolutly perfect!
Thans a ton for you help! to bad you're already on my whitelist, you would have totally earned yourself being added there. 😁😉

Hmm, I like this idea. In fact, since the data already has to be pulled from Steam, and CV has to be calculated from that and the bundled list, I don't see why potential CV and point cost couldn't both be added when creating a giveaway.
This could be quite helpful, especially for newer members of the community, who often have questions about CV and how to level up.

I tried to search the forum, but haven't found anything on this topic. If was just to stupid to search, then please let me know.
There are time (like with the community train right now) where it would be helpful to know beforehand how much points a GA is. Is there a way (maybe with a script) to show the points of a game in the "create a new Giveaway" without having to review the GA?
EDIT: It seems I have to specify my question: Especially with trains it can be really tedious to search each game. Is there a way to show the worth of the game (in points or in US $) on the giveaway creation page?
