I assume the devs are like 'here take my game for this charity' and Humble has no saying in it besides maybe asking devs or refusing games

Something like that most likely. My point is that I don't really see that Humble should get the praise for this when it's not them providing the games. At least not to my knowledge

Why not make it in tiers as usual? I'm all up for charity but giving an option for only 10-15 $ would have net more donations.

Dang, I haven't seen that many wishlisted games in a bundle for a long time. Good charities and a good cause, too! I'm usually more of the "give directly to the charities you support" kind, but if 100% truly goes to them I guess it's a win-win proposition.

You know... I don't like to compare both. Both eco systems has their own peculiar elements... Both was damaged and both will have their own difficulties to recovery. Both are different in any possible way... But I'm failing to see the origin of the double standard here. What's the reason behind of this fuck Brazil and help Australia?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The Brazilian government did it on purpose to clear land "allegedly". Also the Australian fires cover 11,300,000 Acers. The Amazon was 2,240,000 acers.

Im not saying ones more important than the other but one is clearly a larger problem

Cheers, it's a long convo. You're alright!

EDIT: My one-line reply was when you put just the link as your reply and I think that would've been enough. But since you elaborated much more after that: My observation was about the way you phrased your reply about the "non-extermination" of the indigenous tribes and that made it look like you're agreeing with the stance of the governement (or more their lack of) on what's happening to those tribes. There was no pressuposition or pre-judgement of any sort but a remark on that indication that you were/sounded "pro-gov" ("love"was also in italics). Just to clarify, because I also dislike fake news but overreaction as wel..

IIRC there were quite many offers to support Brazil but its Trump-style president managed to chase off aid from foreign states as well as private aid agencies. How are you supposed to help a forbidding entity?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know... This doesn't make much sense from any perspective... Seems more like speculation to be honest.
I also didn't heard anything about that. Is there any confirmation about this anywhere?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It indeed doesn't make much sense, but with such leaders this doesn't mean that it can't happen.
And I'm not sure how a Brazilian, upset about missing support, managed to miss this rather big international news. For some weeks this was page one material.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/brazils-bolsonaro-spurns-g-7-amazon-fire-aid-in-spat-with-macron-11566920646
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-environment-military/why-is-bolsonaro-wary-of-foreign-amazon-aid-ask-brazils-military-idUSKCN1VK2HQ

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah... Pretty much speculation. Zero support because they have all support that came have interests in their "cause". There's no space for this anymore in Brazil. Bolsonaro was pretty clear about his government: there will be no space for corruption under his own decisions. That's pretty much he got elected for and I hope he continues to do this til the end of his election. Obviously, they froze the help after know that ONGs (mostly involved in corruption scandals) won't control Amazonia projects anymore like before (which leads power to brazilian government to act), specially about fund management... Now you can see why I said speculation. They wasn't interested to help, because they "suspended" the help when they realize that their help had to be autruistic.

Oh wow. So much absurdness that I don't know where I should even begin to argue with you. But hey, that was probably a requirement to be a supporter of Bolsonaro.

  1. Be upset and wonder why you didn't get X.
  2. Have absolutely no knowledge why you actually didn't get X - see how you weren't even aware about any of these events.
  3. After you learn about the events, discredit them with whatever slogan/propaganda you are aware of. Provide zero effort to check if it makes any sense to apply them. After all everyone must be corrupt, so it'll fit to blame them for corruption. How could someone not be corrupt and just intend to help, right?
  4. My leader is awesome, he never fails and I can still be upset with everyone else for not providing X. Those filthy corrupt foreigners, who'd rather help Australia than Brazil!
  5. Proceed

Was going to post something like this this morning, but gave myself time to cool off. Now that I'm back, I still feel the need even though you covered it.
I'll just add:

Bolsonaro said that maybe environmental NGOs started the fires to embarrass him. Seriously?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/aug/21/jair-bolsonaro-accuses-ngos-setting-fire-amazon-rainforest

Bolsonaro's own senator son and other friends are under investigation for corruption.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/dec/18/bolsonaro-brazil-corruption-raids-investigation-flavio-bolsonaro

That's all I have to say.
Yes yes, all my sources and research are agenda-driven fake news because there's a worldwide conspiracy of journalists, scientists, corrupt NGOs and heads of state to discredit Trump, Bolsonaro, Duterte, Putin, Kim, etc.

I wish Brazil (and Australia) all the best and hope they can bounce back soon.

Sorry for the late reply, but since no one corrected you, I had to come here and make justice. First thing is that you posted news from november 2019 - when investigations were preliminary and their detention was provisional - and stated it as if it was the absolute truth. It happens that there is no forensic reports leading to the guys from the NGO till these days and that the guy who reported them said it was "in a joke tone". Plus, the investigations from MPF concluded that there wasn't participation from the guys of the NGO and that the fire in the region was caused by "land grabbers". There are almost two months apart from the news you spreaded without further research and even then you posted it. IMO that is way worse than spreading fake news because it either unveils an intellectual dishonesty or that you were acting in bad faith, trying to manipulate facts to defend a point of view. Quite biased, such as the "investigation" that led to their indictment and Bolsonaro's moronic statements (like Di Caprio being an arsonist lol).

What about supporting both him and Trump because they are an endless source of absurd humor and safely an ocean away from me?

Last I read was that the Amazon fires were just native farmers burning down forest to make room for more fields for steaks to walk around in. Can't remember if it was nationalists saying that to prove Bolsonaro did nothing wrong or green people to prove meat is forest murder.

Its amazing how some people are cheering and supporting their leaders and never criticize them. They act like they are some kind of savior without researching anything and if someone says something bad about their practises, he is always wrong. Same thing happened with Hitler and look how it went.
I just feel really sorry about all those animals and plants who died because humans are assholes and those volunteers that put themselves in danger to help everyone who cant help himself.

Or Stalin as an even worse example. Since the winners of the war thought a Soviet Union is the best idea ever and sided with them, they got to freely rewrite history to hide their own crimes. And it's going on even now with Putin rewriting it even more to market a new Soviet Union to voters so they wont protest against any new wars. But since he also controls all media and is going to cut them away from Internet many locals think nothing is wrong.

Not sure I can afford this one after all the winter sales & bundles last month. I'll consider buying it closer to the end of the bundle.

I've wishlisted Hand of Fate 2, Hollow Knight, and Void Bastards. I could only see myself activating maybe a few other games, and I already have 7 of them. CV isn't everything, but it is only 2x cost.
