Because I both love and hate the banning system and VAC system in steam.
Love, because it punishes players severely for them to learn the lesson (except brainless hackers).
Hate, because it can punish innocent people as well. Whether by simple mistakes or not knowing which things you are allowed to do and which are not.
How to improve it? Strike system. If a user does something on steam or VAC games that is unacceptable, they get a strike on their account. Do it 2 more times and your whole account is banned. With this innocent people can learn from mistakes they made, not punishing them outright for a simple mistake.

well, there were many cases during the Sales when a game which was supposed to get 25% discount was getting 80% or even 97%.
Many members from my friend list and active users of SG managed to get those deals (sadly i didn't :/ ). Valve never banned anyone of them.
And considering that an 80% discount to a brand new game is a greater deal than a 9 year old game being given for free, i do not thing Valve will proceed with bans. They may lift the keys but not ban imo.

Except user can't know if price bug is actually bug or simply regular discount, not unless you're well versed in current game prices.
You're abusing bug in the client to gain access to content you have no license for, therefore breaking Steam TOS. Unfortunately Steam won't have balls to release the ban hammer.

probably bug. last time there was a bug with Warlock2 and all keys were revoked... but maybe not

so you got 135 games in your libary, bought with your own money and you risk all of this cause of your greed to get an old game for free, which you know, isnt allowed to get in this way? seems very clever...

There once was a Razer promo codo that was supposed to be used for testing, but it got leaked by an accident. People got actual hardware with 90% off because of it (it took about an hour before they fixed it I think).
And Razer even said no,we won't cancel the purchases :P

thats what I keep repeating, that absolutly nothing will happen other than the keys revoked

What I find amusing is all the people rushing to create giveaways of this game and others trying to win them.
It'll be certainly odd when Steam ends up revoking them and not mention the users here might be courting a suspension if its against the rules to create giveaways for exploited keys ( which I think it is ) .
Well, we'll find out in a few days. In the mean time I'd like to enjoy the game for these 2 days . Cheers!

it's not an exploited key as long as there is no warning made by steam for now is just a free key, the one who win then (if revoked key) still have to pay for the game to give away
and making a ga for a free game (like this one) is against the rule (free game)

I went with the flow after all, the higher amount of people activate it the better - Hopefully Valve won't ban thousands of people. At this point I don't really care whether it gets revoked or not, but I won't push my luck by getting the cards lol and I certainly hope to not get my account banned.

Why, just why? Why would you get your account banned for finding and using a mistake which was made by Valve? You activated a 2.49 EUR game for free. Do you really think, that Valve would ban your account just for this? Worst case scenario is that they revoke the key from your account.

The "G" guy from Valve is a maniac. He twisted some guy's head off once.

"Warhammer Dawn of War GOTY" is on free weekend on steam and there is a bug. If you go to library, you can see the CD-KEY, after right-click on game, you can normal activate it on steam. BTW. September is good month: Amnesia, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee And now DoW GOTY :)

chances are that absolutely nothing will happen other than the exploited keys being revoked and thats it pretty much
no need to get your panties in a bunch because of this

Does this still work? I'm getting an "Invalid Product Code" message when I try to activate the key.

Hello.
As you probably know, Dawn of War games are on weekend sale and the first ones are on free weekend. For what I'm reading you can copy and paste the key of Dawn of War GOTY edition and steam is thinking that you are activating the game. I'm reading that the "2 days remaining" is disapearing.
I already own the game, so I dont know if there is free or a bug. With the expansions, for example, it doesnt happens.
