Dont think many cares concidering how few comments in the thread for two years and many of them are from OP.

I downloaded everything that is interesting every few months, so far played a few. Like played Gone Home from here, I plan to play whatever Dear Esther is... beats having to buy the game for it. (especially that I expect nothing from D.E., and likely I'll still be disappointed )

I don't buy Humble Monthly/Choice too often but when I do I go through the trove to grab stuff, so yes.
It's kind of funny because your question is the same one I would have about the DIG bundles every ~2 days that get posted here. Does anyone even care about or buy that garbage?

I've never understood the whole +1 mentality and especially spending money on that sort of thing, nor would I even attempt to rationalize it to someone in 'real life' (who would probably look at me like I had 6 heads), but whatever I guess people have all sorts of odd quirks and even addictions.

Well people wanting to stick to what they are familiar/comfortable with and the convenience of not having things in 16 different places is understandable, so what you are describing is a bit different. On another hand '+1' is when someone wants a game primarily (or solely) just to add one to their (meaningless) virtual game count and which they have no real intention of ever playing, either because the game itself doesn't appeal to them or because it is trash.

There are games that I had thought of getting but ended up not getting, thanks to the Trove. Less wallet damage. There are games I discovered too, thanks to the trove. Like Volantia, a surprising fun mini game, also Torchlight, enjoyed them. Also picked up series like Broken Sword, SpiderWeb games. Also picked up bunch of other games. Just that there's no noteworthies this couple of months. Cheers~

does anyone use this?
Yes.
Trove is a boon for the kind of people who care about indie games and DRM-Free downloads, which is unlikely to be 100% of the customer base.
Additionally, Trove comes with Humble Originals, which can be exclusives.
The profile of the average SteamGifts user that is active on Discussions has been following a certain trajectory for a number of years now, so it might not be an incredibly faithful representation of the general user base.

Question: What happens when they remove the game regarding updates? Do you have a link that still gets updated (and that you can re-download even after it's been removed) or is it some general link in the trove that is gone completely?

Cheers.
Stuck with a "frozen" version isn't a good policy with todays' games. There has to be at least a 1-2 years gap to verify that the game is largely bug-free.

Only games that have been around for more than 4-5 years should be considered "safe" (and even then, in some cases..). I have seen a lot of games that haven't had an update in quite a while (year or so) but have had persisting bugs or other issues that haven't been addressed. And then suddenly there's a crucial update to fix said issues. In other cass, the developer came back to the game after a long break and added content. Hence it is largely not a moot point..

I know that "Trove" isn't promoting/offering big names or very recent games, bar the "Humble Originals" like you also mentioned. It's their decision to remove or keep a game so I am voicing my disappointment about the practice of removing already owned games without a publicly announced strategy as to why they do that and I explained why, just above. Take for example Volgarr the Viking which is a game from 2012-13 and the last bugfix patch was in 2017.. four years later.
Not trying to be confrontational but I don't think it is helping when you are negating my point like that, unless you thought that by "today's games" I meant very recent ones. But no, I meant games after, say, 2000. Hopefully it was clearer from my second comment that it would make sense to keep games available for a certain amount of time..

I was never negating your point, I simply pointed out that you needn't be overly concerned about Trove.
It does seem to me you're making a mountain out of a molehill, for a number of reasons I won't go in detail about, because it does seem that you're pleased enough with your conclusions, and dissatisfied with reassurances, that I should be so wise not to try and assuage your worries.

Been away for a few days, surprised to see so many comments!
As mentioned by derton2000 and yderlig (thank you), here is the recap of this month's Trove.

I will probably update the chart soon to make it clearer, with dates and a separate removed list.

sadly the trove for an 'unpaused automatically but not paid' monthly does not work anymore.

Sorry if this information is redundant. I'm too lazy to read through everything.

i´m not a friend of this monthly packets - maybe in future there is no other way to get games ?

Any way to quickly spot the games with online multiplayer? Alternatively: Any suggestions? Something nice to do with friends during these times...

Torchlight 2 is worth it with friends but it was removed a month ago. In case you already have it give it a try.

3 games have indeed been removed since last update, including The Bard's Tale (2005 version, not the original collection). I'll update the chart next Friday along with the new games.

Oh, it wasn't the trilogy?? 😮
Thank you for the information, as it makes this month's choice a lot more interesting.
To be totally clear, the DRM-version in the trove was this game?
And am I correct in saying that appid41900's version of the original 3 games is not the remastered version of the trilogy which appears in the steam store here??
Is the remastered game in appid 41900 included in appid 843260?
Comment has been collapsed.
41900 is its own game. It shares the "The Bard's Tale" name, but is an action game and unrelated to the trilogy. It includes the original games I-III via emulation. There's not really anything "Remastered" in this version since it's a different game.
843260 is a proper remaster of I-III - graphics, audio and QoL improvements.
The Humble choice copy includes 843260 and 1091980, but doesn't include 566090 (the original non-Director's Cut Bard's Tale IV).

More games are added on the 2nd Friday of each month. I guess if they remove any, they do it then.

Sexy Brutale and Amnesia appear to have bit the dust. I haven't checked to see what else may be missing. 3 days 16 hours 15 minutes as of this post for the new additions to arrive.

You're right, only those two removed. Will update charts on Friday.

If someone would like to help me finish off this list with a few of the missing titles, I have collected all but 13 of the (now removed) games from the Trove.
Starseed Pilgrim
Shadowrun Returns
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Dustforce DX
Volgarr the Viking
Strike Suit Zero
Shelter
Teslagrad
Gone Home
LIMBO
The End is Nigh
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Penumbra Collector's Pack

You're aware there is already such list in the OP?

There is this convenient console app: https://gitlab.com/silver_rust/trove_downloader
Optionally the GUI version: https://github.com/td512/Humble-Trove-Downloader

Why don't you ask Humble for copies of them if you were a subscriber at the time? Obviously because (annoyingly) they remove games from the Trove, presumably because of contractual or licensing reasons.
You may not see it, since you think you are entitiled to these, but asking for games for free is piracy, and against the SG guidelines.

July 2020 update
Added: Grotto (HO)
Removed: The Sexy Brutale, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Comment has been collapsed.
When are the games removed? Is it when new games are added or is it just random? Is there any way to get the games that were removed, at least from when I got a subscription in September 2019?
Comment has been collapsed.
Games are often removed some days before the new ones are added. Can't say exactly, it would require to check the website every day to be sure.
For games which have been removed, unfortunately, you can't get them anymore, even if your subscription was active at that time :(

Since June 2017, each Humble Choice / Monthly subscriber has access to the Humble Trove. It includes a variety of DRM-free games (no Steam). You can download any game as long as your subscription is active. New games are added every second Friday of the month.
Link: https://www.humblebundle.com/subscription/trove
79 games currently in the Trove (last update: June 2021)
BEWARE! Make sure to download the games you want before it's too late!
It seems that they disappear after some time (about 2 years, sometimes more, sometimes less).
