Are you using Windows 10?
I have WIFI issues with Win 10, have to jump through some hoops from time ti time to get it back

I guess something's wrong with your setup because else Win 10 wouldn't have issues as it's way more compatible with anything than Windows 7.

Arch Linux! <3
No freezing so far on win10, but it's shit, so I feel your pain. Guess it doesn't like my network card. Turned off every service that doesn't crash whole OS, but lack of speed is still an issue. And no new drivers for 10 yet, duh.
Of course I have no such issues on Arch.

Only if it does not like your network card it is not a Windows issue it is a hardware issue and blame the people who have shit drivers for said card. Why do so many blame Windows for problems it has no control over?It like blaming Windows for your video card crashing when it either the card is bad or the drivers are fucked or it cold be the rare PSU or bad cable.OS issue would be like it causing major memory leakage that causes a crash.Or a bug in the code that causes an issue and so on.
Linux is more stable for a lot reason and one is anyone can improve it or work on it,Second is the fact that usually it is more stable due to it not being as user friendly as Windows but more and more Linux builds are getting closer to that and when it does the more issues that will arise as the more that can go wrong. Also a lot less hardware works with it so a lot less likely something will go wrong.
I wish windows could be more lean but then it would not appeal to the masses and people like my grandma would be lost if it was more like Linux and not so much point and click.
I just wanted to add that i am not saying 10 is perfect and so on i just find it silly when people blame the wrong things for the wrong issues.

Hardware issue if it worked well in Win7 & works well on Arch Linux? Sweetie, it's not a hardware issue ;)
I am not saying it's all /nasty word/, but I am saying that part of it is sooooo /another nasty word/...
Oh my... My mother is using Linux. Believe me, it's user friendly ;D and it requires no fiddling around these days.

So if something works well in Windows 7 and on Linux and then it does not on Windows 10 that some how does not make it a hardware issue?
Funny you should mention that as when i upgraded to windows 10 i had to also update the drivers on my wireless adapter to get it to work like it should.
Yet it worked just fine in Windows 7 yet according to you something like that is a Windows issue not a hardware issue when in fact it was a hardware issue since the hardware needed a driver update to function. It worked in Windows 10 it just would sometimes stop responding or would drop the connection.Since i upgraded the drivers none of that has happened so it was a hardware issue.Since drivers is part of what makes the hardware work then if the drivers are not working like it should it still boils down to a hardware issue just on the driver side of things.
Also i never said Linux was not user friendly i said not as user friendly but now they just give it a U.I. just like windows to appeal to the masses more but sadly support for the OS is still far behind Windows and the reason i do not use it is because lack of support for gaming which is my primary use for a PC.If it was just for surfing the internet then i would use Linux. Also AMD lack of decent Linux drivers also keep me from even using it part time as a gaming machine.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it! That's my policy.
I'm still rocking with Windows 7 after 6 years, and I won't upgrade to Windows 10, not even under torture!
Windows 10 Home users are subject to mandatory updates, essentially being used as perpetual beta testers; now you see why it's free, and why they're forcing it on us? And being relatively new, driver support might be wonky (or outright absent) for older or less popular hardware.
Also, with all that telemetry and phoning home to Microsoft servers for every little action, we can as well call it a legalized spyware.
Now, what you (or everyone in the same situation) can do?
Lastly, an advice for fellow Windows 7/8//8.1 users who don't want the free "upgrade": carefully select which updates deserve a space on your system, because many of them are actually just paving the road for the Windows 10 "upgrade".
I check this site regularly to avoid nasty updates: http://www.askwoody.com/

the old pc is still sporting vista - chrome, and steam both are telling met they dont support it anymore, or are not enabling all features.
i cant blame them really.
its a new pc, so i can just format and install something else.
if the store doesn't find anything,. windows 7 is the next thing that goes on there.

Have you tried using /sfc scannow command? Fixed a few issues I had with win 10 locking up the start menu on my father's laptop.
I'm not using it on my PC, though. Still on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate there.

I have not tried to upgrade from 8/8.1 to 10 as I have older computers, but I have had problems on almost every PC that I've upgraded from 7 to 10. On my main PC Windows 10 "forgot" all about my printer installation and rebooted with an unknown device in the Device Manager and the software suite for it was nowhere to be found. I also had to reinstall drivers for my HD6850 (yes, I know I need to upgrade) because it didn't install CCC and installed the default MS drivers instead. In every Windows 7 upgrade instance that I have done I ended up resetting the OS and was forced to lose everything that was installed on Windows 7 prior by doing so. Once I did that the computers all ran fine. In my experience the upgrade process is flawed, as it has always been with prior Windows upgrades, and the best solution is a clean install.
In this case though it appears that you have a failing hardware component somewhere or a BIOS setting that needs to be changed. I wish you luck in your frustrating journey.

Desktop install was fine. Headphones don't work on the laptop since installing on there. Tried for about an hour to find a working solution which I realise isn't long. What works for others didn't work for me so I plugged in a USB headset instead and use that.
I don't move my laptop around or take it out with me. If I did then a fix would be more urgent as it'd be handy to stick a pair of earbuds in and use them on the go. As I pretty much use it as desktop the USB headset solution is ok, but I really should sort it out properly at some point.

I'm on Windows 10 as well. Everytime they update something, they add some annoying little issues to my laptop. Nothing google-fu can't fix though. Good luck!

I prefer pay for something good than get something shitty for free. Since I already paid for something good, there's no reason to get something shitty for free. Besides that, what reinforces me to not update mine, is that if it ain't broken, don't fix it! If you are not that happy, you may wanna reconsider roll back to windows 7.

not reading through all this shit to see if anyone said anything similar. Had this problem, was my wireless wifi, windows did not like its power settings by default and i had to set it to be always on before it would stop locking up the pc. it hadnt been an issue on 7 prior to the upgrade. after finally figuring it out, and searching for that specific issue, apparently win10 doesnt like certain devices when they come out of standby. check to see if you have any hardware that isnt in an always on state, and correct the settings, if it solves it, set them back one at a time until you figure out which device/hardware it is.

Just got a new PC, installed Win10,. frozen OS about 5 times before even having drivers installed.
Not happy.
Has anyone got any issues with windows 10 randomly freezing up and requiring a reboot?
So far I've yet to find a proper suggestion what may be wrong,. I know it's not the SSD as that was the first thing I unplugged.
Motherboard settings perhaps,. or windows default network drivers,... so many things that get mentioned on the internet it's hard to pinpoint a proper solution.
