It depends on what games you like. If you like shooters then go for Killzone™ Mercenary/Borderlands 2. If you like platformers then go for Rayman Legends/Guacamelee. Also see this metacritic page with the best scored Vita games: http://www.metacritic.com/feature/25-best-playstation-vita-games

If you are willing to get some PSP games (which are backward compatible with the system), look at the Corpse Party series. The newest game will be on Vita, but two previous titles were PSP.

I will definitely look into that, I've seen some other corpse party media (anime and a little bit of lets plays). Some of those images still haunt me. o.o

Until you do, play this version of the original
The first Corpse Party game on PSP is an updated remake of that game. Lot more content though, so even after playing this one, its something worth buying.
If only I could play my copies. No PSP right now, and my PS3 doesn't play those games. :P

Favourites so far have been:
Spelunky
Binding Of Isaac Rebirth
Rogue Legacy
Wipeout 2048
Need For Speed Most Wanted
Disgaea 4
I recently got Oreshika too, which is pretty good, a bit repetitive at the moment but everyone says it's amazing so I'll keep at it.
Personally I didn't like Gravity Daze (Gravity Rush) despite many positive reviews. Same goes for Tearaway.
If you don't already have them on another system, you should also obviously get Hotline Miami, Guacamelee and Fez.

I didn't realize the Binding of Isaac was on the Vita. Sounds like fun there.

To be honest, the Vita is absolutely perfect for the game. I can't play it on anything else now :-)
Isaac and Spelunky, and maybe Rogue Legacy, took up most of my vita play hours. Excellent games, as I'm often on the train for work.

For PS Vita game, you can't go wrong with Persona 4 Golden, it's a must have. The rests are based on your interest.
I personally like JRPG game, so I recommend Conception II, Tales of Heart R, and SAO: Hollow Fragment. Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is gonna get localized next year, so that's something to be excited too..

The only exclusives that came into my mind is Persona 4 Gold, which is kinda "MUST GET" for Vita owners.
One thing to remind yourself, playing for long hours on Vita is very tiring. The small screen will hurt your eyes, the weight and shape of the console hurt your wrists, and the constant holding the console on eye level will hurt your arm (or hurt your neck if you rest your arm below eye level).
That is why, when buying games for my Vita, I generally will only look for PS-exclusive titles, or games I think I will enjoy in small sessions.
Games like
I wouldn't recommend open world games like Borderlands 2. This type of game is better played on PC or TV. I wouldn't recommend getting AAA ports too unless it is an exclusive title, since AAA ports are better played on PC/TV as well.

Persona 4 Golden (Great JRPG)
Blaz Blue Shift and Phantasma (Solid 2D fighter)
Dengeki Bunko (A good fighter so I've heard)
Danganronpa (A must have VN. You own a Vita, you have to play this game)
Project Diva F/2nd (Good rhythm game)
Hotaru no Nikki (Unique)
Corpse Party (Latest one comes out next week, one of the best)
Steins;Gate (Another must have VN)
Disgaea (Fun time killer)
Zero Escape (ZE:3 in the works, fan of original, get this game)
Muramasa Rebirth (Fast paced fluid 2D hack and slash)
WTIDTDTML (Dungeon ecosystem)
(No need for indies. The majority are available on steam anyways).

If you like VNs in general, Danganronpa series is good. Haven't played it in Vita though.
Also :
Also I kept hearing good things about Gravity Rush, be sure to check that out.

So, I am planning on getting a PlayStation Vita at some point soon. I decided to reach out and see what my fellow members of SG thought about the system. Though, mainly I would like to know if any of you have recommendations for games that I could get. I am open to most genres, so just throw whatever you got out there. Also, yes...Hyperdimension (selling point!).
