Was it a free download, or did you pay for it? A few dollars, or at a decent price?

When you have OCD, which most gamers have in one form of another, one of the most annoying things is not being able to remember something. I'm trying to remember the name of an indie game but i'm extreamly fuzzy on the details, i played it back in 2007(i think). It was a 2D sidescrolling action/rpg, i think it (most likely) had turn based combat, it was steampunk-ish. This is the only part i'm 100% sure on, you started with this dude(i don't remember if you had the option to play female as well or not) with a shotgun and a dog following you, then there was something about some girl(princess?) that needed help, and you would go to a quarry(?) and start going up a mountain to save her from someone. I think more party members would join you as you got higher and higher.
Would really love some help finding out the name of this game. It's been bugging me for some time now and i've had no luck. Thanks.
