Just a suggestion for this great project and I would like to hear your opinion. I really like the filter for games I own so the giveaways for these games are hidden. Makes it much easier to browse. What I would really like to see is a blacklist for games. There are some games I will never play and will never take part in giveaways (my personal opinion about these games). When these games become available in a bundle a lot of people give them away and flood the page with giveaways I'm not interested in.

I think it would be great if we can hide games from the list that we are not interested in. Would make it a lot easier and faster to browse the page and find the giveaways we are interested in. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against giving away these games, I'm personally just not interested in them.

What do you think? Would that help?

SteamGifts owned filter

As for non owned titles in a custom filter, the 3rd party SteamGifts Plus addon covers that.

Thanks but imho that is the wrong way. I will not install plugins for every page that has a lack of functions. ;)

Well then you will just need to live without custom filters.

It's not the wrong way, because this allows the specific filtering to be applied with each user's own computer, rather than tax the SG server as a whole.

That filter can only do one thing: Hide the output. That's not a filter, that's bs! Same amount of pages and if it's possible to filter games I own without trouble it should not kill the server to filter some more games...

"it should not kill the server to filter some more games..."

To be frank, every HB release nearly kills the server, and you're proposing that the server also implement specific filtering sets for each individual user on top of normal functions.

There IS such a filter. If I purchase a game this will be filtered. Where is the difference between filtering 200 games I own or 200 games I don't want?

In my view, current filter system pulls data from Steam web API so it does not store any data on the server. If CG does implement a custom filter, he will need to store the data for each user and thus, he need bigger resource for database.

He saves that stuff, due every API request takes a lot more power then to just do this once and save that information on the local server.

I'm pretty sure it stores that info somewhere because the sync page maintains its list without you having to have to click the sync button. And making an API call every time it needed to be determined what games you own would be horribly inefficient and slow.

It's rather painless to utilize, takes minutes to set up

If you are looking for built-in site filtering like Steamgifts Plus addon do, that's still long way due. CG once said he'll add some functions from SG+ addon, but no exact date when it will be added. For now on, you can use the add-on or if you insist to not use the add-on... stick with current filter.

Okay, I prefer using my eyes instead of infecting my browser with more or less useless plugins... pretty sad, due this should not be hard to implement (I do stuff like this myself for a living).

Cool, cg does stuff like this for fun. For the third time, I'm sorry that you don't have a specific thing implemented because you don't wish to use a small, safe plugin on a site that you use for free.

Fanboyism? I ASKED for it. It's a free page, yes, that's nice. I did stuff is similar size for free too and tried to make it better for free. If he is not interested in improving stuff, fine, I can live with it. What I did is feedback. I don't NEED that function, I don't need a shitty plugin in my browser for a single website, I would be just fine to have it...

Do you NEED free games?

If you don't wish to resolve the issues yourself by installing a simple plug-in what's the point of this thread then? Complaining?

How is this plug in useless if it does exactly what you're asking for?

How is it useless if it provides a feature you consider useful? I'm all for building in features, but sometimes there are reasons why some features aren't officially incorporated.

It is useless means: Why should thousands of users install a plugin when it should be no problem for the dev to add this feature to the page? That makes is useless imho. And my browser is there to browse a lot of pages. If every page I visit has a lazy dev and I would need to install a plugin for every page my browser would explode.

@ doctorofjournalism: Free games? Look at my profile, it's gamble and I'm losing... but it's fun.

PS: I'm not asking for lolcats on every button, I was asking for a core feature. That's nothing that should request a browser plugin...

That's utter nonsense. I have the plug in installed (technically it's just a script) and my browser works fine. My browsing experience in this site is improved immensely too. Also why not consider that CG is simply too busy to implement those features instead of implying he's just too lazy.

You simply don't get it. That's the point. Lazy, busy... whatever! Installing a plugin for just one side to add a feature that is so fcking common is... argh*! I can't find words... forget it. Go install plugins to, DRM and whatever you want, it's your pc...

cg COULD provide you with the features you want, but it will take more server resources and might make the site laggy. Are you willing to provide more servers for cg to use? He's doing this out of his own money and some money from ads.

Again: It takes more resources to filter games I don't want then to filter games I own? You must be a great developer... not...
