About 6 months ago I won Saints Row 3, I added to my library but didn't play it very much.
But some days ago the game wasn't anymore in my library, so i called the steam support:

<<It appears the gifted title has been removed due to a billing error in the original purchase.
Our records indicate that your account received the game via a successful Steam Trade. Unfortunately, our records indicate you did not trade away any items/gifts in return for the game on your account.
Unfortunately, we will be unable to replace the game.>>

You didn't get the situation. The "fucker" was OK. It's not his fault.

I know who you meant. The problem is that Steam thinks the game was obtained by a scam, because nothing went in exchange for it.

But its a problem with the original billing, not a problem with the trade.

No, the guy who gifted SR3 had payment issues of some sort. He doesn't get anything cause it was a gift, not because Valve thinks its a scam

^ This

If it was a trade, Valve would have givent him back whatever he traded for it. But since it was a gift, they won't do anything.

I sent to support the link of winning page, as proof. They said:

<<Please let us know if you encounter any further difficulty - we will be happy to assist you. >>

What's wrong with you? Steam support already explained to him, that there were problems regarding the purchase of the gift. This means that the person who gifted the game could have gotten it with some sort of a scam. Why the hell do you blame Steam support when you nimwits cannot understand something as simple as this? Damn, illiterate people piss me off...

edit: and what the f* do you expect from Steam support? They won't buy the game for you, you know? Jeez...

There's no policy on stuff given away, that's the responsibility of the people giving and receiving, to be fair about it and not pull a stunt like this.

They have no obligation to return you the game, the blame lies with the person giving it away then taking back his money or sending a support ticket saying he didn't intend to make that purchase.

Only thing you can do is report him on here and hope for a lifetime ban from steamgifts for such an act. I consider it the lowest of the lowest to do a chargeback on something you've given away.

Nothing to do about it, except for trying to explain to them. This is why gifter should always GIFT the game, via email or what not.

fedexx2 received a tradeable Steam game, the original buyer of said game probably canceled the payment -> fedexx2's game has been removed.

So how would this outcome change if the game was gifted by mail?

"Our records indicate that your account received the game via a successful Steam Trade. Unfortunately, our records indicate you did not trade away any items/gifts in return for the game on your account. Unfortunately, we will be unable to replace the game."

Steam probably thinks he scammed him for it.

If he had traded something in exchange for it, they would have been able to give him back the game he'd have lost in the trade. Since he traded nothing in return, they have nothing to give him back. Wether it was gifted or traded doesn't make any difference.

Possible, but I doubt it.

I had a similar problem, where a game in my library has been revoked 4 months after a trade.
Steam support also wrote "... we will be unable to replace the game" - but they restored the items I lost in the trade. So my guess is, they will just never replace what you have received in a trade, but instead only stuff you have traded away.

Apparently this line <<Unfortunately, our records indicate you did not trade away any items/gifts in return for the game on your account.>> so it seems like he (fedexx) scammed the gifter, because there was no trade involved even though it was a trade.

All that line means is he won't get any kind of compensation for losing SR3.

"It appears the gifted title has been removed due to a billing error in the original purchase."
This is the line that counts

Have you tried contacting the gifter? If you can't resolve this with him, I'd say mark the gift as "Not received" and move on.

pretty sure you can't mark gifts as not received on a 6 months old giveaway.

Yes, you can. Although you obviously shouln't be able to. IMHO, you should have to make a ticket with support for such a case. I've seen it abused by people who traded their winnings away and marked it as not received later on to avoid being suspended for not activating the gift on their account.

my question is.. Steam doesn't know about this site????

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm sure they do by now. But the problem is the payment for the game that fedexx2 got was probably charged back or something similar. Therefore the game hasn't been paid for and Valve took it back.

It's like receiving stolen goods. Even if you pay for the item and have all the proof to back that up, if the item was stolen it belongs to the original owner and you're left out of pocket.

It's a shame to see something like this happen.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, stolen goods aren't that easy to get back. If you'll prove you bought it "in good faith", there's big chance you might not lose them, or get your money back from owner.

Just look at all those stolen paintings that appear here and there on some auctions - if museum want it back, they must pay for them.

Yeah it might not have been the greatest analogy. I just wanted to put something in to explain the situation.

Valve are obviously out-of-pocket in some way for the game so they pulled fedexx2's copy.

They know, they just don't care. No money, no game, they do not care if you were not the one to do a chargeback.

You have to set gift to not received and submit a ticket to support to tell them what happened. What they will do is up to administration and moderation rules.

Could be a credit card charge-back that caused this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It could be that he used a VPN to buy the game for cheap from Russia and then gifted it to you that way. I've seen people do that, too, and they're after you because you didn't "trade a game back." It doesn't make much sense that they'd claim you didn't give something back unless they think you're trying to screw them out of money.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

PayPal chargeback must be within 45 days, most credit card companies allow a maximum of 120 days.

6 months is 180 days, so it either took two months for Steam to realize they lost money or you weren't playing SR3 very much.
