It's a tough question. I'm a part-time professional artist. I sometimes repost stuff that I have seen on the internet and I sometimes see people reposting stuff that I have made. I think there is plenty of room for leniency and understanding.
But I do try to follow rules and often I have seen people completely breaking rules or even trying to profit from other peoples work - and given my own experiences and how difficult it is to take action against people completely taking the mick I have a horrible suspicion that if you managed to get an 8 month ban you somehow did something to deserve it and if you screwed up that bad then maybe you shouldn't even be trusted with screenshots (when it is pretty easy to upload any picture on your hard drive as a 'screenshot')...

well i only been upload artwork from giphy.com, i did apologize to moderators and said that i realise my mistake and did read the rules and promised not to upload any random artwork in future but they didnt want to be understandble, idk why they abusing their moderator powers so cruerly, is not like i did it on purpose and planning to continie upload artwork again...

I'm not unsympathetic and I don't like to see people banned. But on the other hand I've had cases of people uploading my artwork places saying 'they just found it on google images so they thought it was OK' or whatever. And most of the time I don't give a crap. But by uploading artwork to Steam you are claiming it as your own - and if somebody else made it then they might well not be happy.
It does seem harsh, but I'd say the lesson is that if you don't want to be punished then look at the rules before before doing stuff rather than just making assumptions about what might be OK and then complaining that the punishment is harsh.

"What artwork is acceptable to upload?
The artwork you post must be your own creation. Do not post the work of other people. Instead, please encourage them to post it.
It must be directly related to the game you are associating it with. Random gifs and unrelated imagery will be removed.
Note: Respect your fellow community members by not posting any inappropriate artwork, including but not limited to, racism, sexual content or nudity, or gore. This work and any copyright or stolen material should be reported and will be removed."
It doesn't say it is OK if there was a warning that you don't claim the artwork. It doesn't say it is OK if you don't get bans on Facebook for that. It doesn't say anything about children and apples. It says that the artwork you post must be your own creation. If it isn't then don't post it as artwork on Steam - or if you break the rules then be prepared to accept consequences that aren't up to you.

yeah i did read everything after i got a ban... so yeah you dont help me with it, so random gifs and unrelated imagery will be removed ? so why my was just set to private...
second im asking you about something one u change subject on same thing u did repeat in first and second time, i dont understand how rules i wasnt understand / read in the first place will change anything right now or give the answer to what im asked

I'm sorry if I caused upset or offense - that wasn't my intention. From my point of view it was you who was changing the subject by bringing up entirely unrelated matters such as what happens on facebook or what happens to children who steal apples. I was trying to get back to the core issue but as we are clearly having communication difficulties I'll go back and attempt another reply.

there was no behaving of upset or offence taken upon your partner in discussion, the question in the first place was if 8 month is a fair ban, Not if is fair to ban me for uploading artwork, so yeah of course i did said all that things because your answers wasnt direct to the question, i dont care how and why i got banned, i only had a simple question if 8 month is fair / normal ban

That doesn't make any difference - see Steam rules.
See Steam rules - by publishing the artwork you are claiming it as your own which could well be seen as 'stealing'.
And yes, many people do get lesser bans but I still suspect yours was fair. At the very least you appear to have broken the rules hundreds of times so your ban was clearly going to be worse than usual. And for all we know the material was pornographic, racist or otherwise offensive in some way.

my appear to have broken the rules hundred times ? "facepalm" there was just 2 , 1 is from game forums for selling stuff not in the right tread, and second for arguing with eram, and those spammble bans on my email in same day. if you consider spamming like 100 emails with random days ban as a hundred rules break then i have no comentary on this bullsh*t, there was no pornographic artwork, the one that was long time ago in my first uploads , is was closed and i didnt upload any more after it, so i didnt break anything upon this part, i got the warning, none was uploaded in future. Racist ? Send me a single artwork wheres racism including... but there nothing to search anymore since i deleted all banned artwork...
sad part that took me few month to ask from moderators for my ban date since the email had no direct date, and just spamming of random days bans

I feel we are missing context. As someone who posted a Devil May Cry fan art with visible but censored boobs, the image was hidden by
Support but I got no other punishment. An 8 month community ban for sharing images points at something clearly a lot more offensive.
My uploaded image below.

Oh my god, boobs, how dare you even post something like that!
Jeez. I don't get why there even are these stupid rules.
After all, boobs are just part of the human female body and in this particular case, it's just animated stuffs.
I think I will never understand that.

Well what did you post? Can we have some context in this?
Comment has been collapsed.
You have said nothing more than 'random screen shots'. That isn't context. We want to know what kind of images.
Because in what I've said, it wasn't my guy being nice and yours cruel.
You have 231 pieces of art work, all but 9 are hidden. Fan art isn't hidden. Its got to be serious to be hidden.

Ohman, I remember that. They took that down? No way.
Same boat here though, I had one of my Re-L pictures removed, which was in no way explicit or even lewd. Received no word from support and decided meh, I'll just reupload it again. A year later and nothing has happened. Really feel like there's something we're not being told here. Especially considering the guy still has 230 images uploaded and the first one I see is this which is far too lewd for my pure eyes.

Consider yourself lucky it could be way worse. Somebody I know had a small blog and posted a picture of an interesting product without having copyrights of that picture. The owner of the company that produces said product sued and they had to pay 30.000 € fine.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. We are talking about a promotional photo from the companies website, nothing classified or something like that.

Considering you uploaded seemingly hundreds of these images that don't belong to you? It's entirely fair, if not lenient.
"The artwork you post must be your own creation. Do not post the work of other people. Instead, please encourage them to post it."
You didn't obey that rule. You got banned for it. Your ability to use Screenshots was banned as well, as you used the Screenshot section to upload yet more artwork you don't have the rights to.
You have to understand, that Steam is protecting it's own ass from DMCA here. You violated copyright. They ban you to avoid Steam facing the consequences for it.

You probably deserved it, however I think community moderators should only be able to ban you from uploading screenshots for their game, if it's a steam wide ban, that seems like a bit of an overreach in power. I'm not really sure how it works though, so I could be wrong.
