I hope that they like my idea. What would you guys think of a Steam Ramadan Sale.

Here's my post on the Steam forums: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/10/648814841684697020/

"I'm perfectly fine with the Steam Holiday sale and I am glad that Valve respects their community. However, being a Muslim, I was hoping Valve might host a "Steam Ramadan Sale" during Ramadan each year?

Instead of crafting snow globes, users would be able to craft Stars and Crescents. The Stars and Crescents could then be turned into items, such as Team Fortress 2 turbans and Dota 2 burkhas.

I believe that such an event would help showcase that Steam is a diverse international community of friends. You might even consider hosting sales for other major religions, such as a Steam Diwali Sale. Of course, Valve and game developers/publishers would make a lot of money off of the sale as well.

What does everyone think of my idea?"

If they don't have a Christmas sale, they won't have a Ramadan sale.

That's just political correctness, we all know that the Steam Holiday sale is based upon the Judeo-Christian holidays.

As an athiest, Im okay with that. Why cant you be?

It's based upon capitalism and shopping which is pretty far removed from the Judeo-Christian aspect.

No, actually it's based on shopping like every other store chain holiday sale is. No religon involved.

It's not about the holidays, in the same way that the summer sale is not about Julius Caesar.

I didn't know Caesar was a god of some kind.

All the Caesars believed themselves to be gods, actually. Very similar to the Pharaohs.

Some people don't believe Talos was a god. To each their own I guess.
But ultimately, like the winter sale, the summer sale is not about any religion.

No. It's based on the Hallmark holidays that people SPEND more during this time of the year. When Ramadan starts being based more in consumerism then come back to Valve and ask them for this.

Christmas has very little to do with Christians, it's more to do with economics. In the dollar we trust afterall.

On the contrary, people spend more for "deals" than for "low-but-regular prices". There was a market chain that tried selling at the "real" price all the time and... it went out of business.

Of course a game is always the same game, while it's a lot easier to percive two comparable pairs of trousers as actually different, but on a big scale I think they still sell more if they do sales.

Just my though, do want you want with it. :)

Sales start an hour after sundown each day. Otherwise, Valve clearly taking advantage of calorie-deprived folks.

They have snowglobes. If they do crescents, then they would need to be doing Crosses instead of snowglobes. That said, I wouldn't mind another sale I suppose :)

Do you also advocate that they have a festivus and a hanukkah sale? They call it a WINTER sale, so as not to specify any religion or group of people, however, since valve is based in the states, and 80% of the country celebrates SOMETHING during December... well ya.

Even tough I like your idea, there isn't a holiday sale. Its just a winter sale.

Edit: after looking at the store page again... I derped, there stands clearly HOLIDAY sale, so there is no valid reason why not to do this idea.

Here's a valid reason: Ramadan is a holiday, thus there is already a sale for it and it's going on RIGHT NOW!

Um just no. With your idea there'd be a sale like almost every month of the year thereby destroying the purpose of those iconic Summer, Autumn, Winter sales etc. What next? A Valentine's Day sale where you can craft badges get Roses which you then send to a steam friend of the opposite sex and get a "heart" which would lead to the crafting of TF2 valentine items? Or maybe digital love games where Lord Gaben is the Love Guru?

There is nothing "Christmas" about the sale, its just the time of the year.

If Valve showed ANY sort of religion on Steam, I'd be extremely upset.

Could actually be pretty interesting. Maybe the sales start at sundown or something. I guess the big problem is that Ramadan is so long though.

Where do you draw the line? Every cultural group, religion, faith, would be entitled to a special event, and that would be unfeasible. And ridiculous.

I accept all religions, but this would be a bad idea. Steam is a community of many different people, but this doesn't mean they have to make a sale for every feast. Let's just keep Steam and Religious things away from each other, okay? Also, having a sale like this would be the same as pushing a Religion in your throat.

i dont really care if we have a sale for Robamadan, a sales a sale. also valve doesnt respect the community, thats just delusional, lol, any excuse for a themed sale is an excuse to make more money for valve.
