This post reminded me of dial-up connections.
Which reminded me of fax machines.
Which lead me to find this video.
Thank you!!

Yup it's probably the amount of users on the site, it never did this when it was 10k members. I'd guess around 2k people could be on this site at once, loading pages and entering giveaway and commenting so that's probably why. 2k connections is hard for a server to handle.

It used to be slow for me few days ago. Now it seems to work ok.

I imagine it's less about the number of members and more about DOS attacks being launched against the service to make it unusable for periods of time.

I do hope the server is not running on Apache (Google: C10K) considering the number of members (and, likely daily visitors) it has.

The problem being that it can take up to 5 minutes to load a single page and I've had it where for days at at time, the site couldn't load.

Must have been surfing during rush hour. I recommend playing Mario to make sure the interpipes are clean to fix your bowser.

Is it just me or is the site really really slow? I mean... about 2 minutes after clicking on a giveaway and refreshing or changing pages.
