Valve has finally apologized for last week’s Steam Christmas disaster, explaining in a lengthy statement today that the issues stemmed from a Denial of Service attack and wound up exposing the information of around 34,000 users.

So no compensation. Come on steam. It took you 5 days to respond to an attack that could have been fatal for some people and all you can say is sorry.

I wonder if it was valve's fault or some company that has their servers and tried the "solution" by themselves.

I was hoping they'd release a statement, it had been a few days.
I always like how they've put the effort to give a little more explanation of what went wrong than some other companies might. Helps calm some fears too I'd bet.

They really need to have a better way of talking with people though. They only addressed this partially on their forum and this just recently. And no matter how you look at it, even if full info wasn't shown the fact that info was shown at all is really bad.

It also confirms that if you went checking to see if you "got hacked" you put your info out there.

Not allowed to reply on that post. It really shows how sorry they are and care about the opinion of the users.

You can care about the opinion of your users without caring about xXxVegetaH4rdm4nxXx's declaration of raping your goldfish, and how he totally knows where you live (and his dad works in NASA's kaiju wrestling division) so you should watch your back. \:3/

The ensuing shitstorm would be full of people who legit expect community moderators to wade through masses of pages of mouthbreather insults to respond to angry queries, and would only get angrier when they didn't get a personal response. It's not pretty either way, but having closed announcements isn't a new thing anywhere on the internet.

I accidentally picked up my housephone while someone else was using it. I apologised later when they got off the phone and they spent a whole hour screaming until their lungs started projecting blood! :D

Last time something like this happened, didn't they apologize sooner and give everyone CS:GO or something? This apology feels more like "we're sorry because our customers think we should apologize"
