Every gamer should have auto updates turned off to begin with so should be a non issue for most and as always you should always look up updates before installing them, personally i dont have anything against win 10 i have it on all of the pc's in my house other then this one and ill be updating it soon enough, so far i have not ran across anything that would not run on it.
I see a bigger problem with them forcing auto updates on Win 10 http://www.infoworld.com/article/2949622/microsoft-windows/windows-10-forced-updates-dont-panic.html
nothing worst then having an update install while your in the middle of a game..

First off i said "should" im not telling you to do anything......If you like to have your system get re-booted and have your games crash/get corrupted every time windows decides to run an update that required a restart, or have windows auto install a buggy driver that makes your system run like crap or not at all then feel free thats your choice:)
And as far as "who" i am im someone who went to collage for computers and circuit board design and owned my own computer shop for years why who are you?

Microsoft is getting pretty annoying but it's definitely possible to avoid being force fed the W10 updater, or remove it, should it get installed - likely to happen to users whose machines are left set to install automatically updates.
At this point XP is pretty outdated though, however I suppose you ought to be fairly well aware of it, and have your own reasons to avoid upgrading?

If he referred to financial reason (cannot afford to buy new hardware), then I can understand. Other than that, I can't imagine there exists any valid reason to keep XP. Someone enlighten me?
I even forcibly took Windows XP machines from my users and gave them shiny Windows 7 (at that time) and now Windows 10. I do allow Windows XP on Virtual Machines, though.

Dunno why all the cries about Windows 10... been using since release and 100% of the games i played in it so far worked without any issue.

More or less the same for me. It didn't force me in any way, but I did elect to do the update on an existing machine. I did exactly 4 things afterward to clean it up:
So far it's worked flawlessly for me. Aside from some visual changes, the user experience is almost identical to W7.

Ironically I used ME way longer than 98 SE. .
To be veryyyy honest I was very young, and definitely couldn't use the OS to the fullest, but I can say I didn't have any unpleasant experience. Well, bluescreens here and there but natural, but I managed to play Age of Empires for hundred hours.
And Counter Strike + Warcraft 3.

GWX Control Panel
This is a free tool that can remove and disable the 'Get Windows 10' notification area icon on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Recent versions can also disable 'Upgrade to Windows 10' behavior in the Windows Update control panel and do much more.

You can post this in the OP if you want:
Using Group Policy MMC snap-in: run gpedit.msc, expand Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components, select Windows Update Center and enable the "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update" policy.

I was cautious about (the unknown) Win 10 - while I was running Win 7. After upgrading and probably 6 months of solid use - I wouldn't go back. Admittedly I built my PC, and it is very recent and fast, so driver support wasn't a problem. And on the subject of scary Microsoft spyware - I am very careful to visit several midget "adult websites", and shop for books related to goat breeding, and home made explosives - each day, just so my customer profile is one of the more interesting ones.

Unless I've overlooked it (which happens more often than naught), I have yet to find a credible source that this is continually happening..
Of all the articles I've read (a few dozen or so, all pretty much the same scaremongering), none provide links to the articles cited and what little information I can garner is buried in all the dozen or so tech-media sites reporting on this.
The closest thing I could find so far is that Microsoft admitted it was a bug, fixed it, and forgot about it.
KB3035583 looks to just install that annoying 'Get Windows 10' update program, and for someone who updates on a regular basis, I have yet to see any Windows 10 download on my computer.
That's not to say some people did not experience it, as it was a bug, I just believe it's another lynch mob going after big bad Microsoft, in true social media fashion. Everyone knows social media loves forming lynch mobs.

Fun fact - if Windows upgrades itself to W10 on a laptop/computer with pre-installed system, the product is no longer like described in the agreement you make when you purchase it, making it a breach of agreement on retailer's part, and you can demand returning money.

This is utter BS tho, lots of my games don't even support W10.
