Since I just posted this on some game's discussion, I thought I might as well post it here too.

Just for information, I started to add the tag "No Language Selection" to those games that support multiple languages but don't let you choose between them from inside the game, and instead require that you change your OS language or some other OS localization setting.

I think it would be an useful information to look for, when checking out a game before a purchase, but sadly up until now it's only been used by me and a couple friends, so it doesn't show up for everyone.

If some of you also think it would be nice to be warned in advance in those cases, feel free to add that tag to such games, and maybe someday it'll become a public tag.. :)

Yeah that would be a great piece of information.

Also, all websites that use/enforce language according tom your ip rather than your Os language or browser setting should burn in hell.

The worse for me was IMDB, because even though I could browse the site in english, the page title would contain the translated movie title, and I could never find the movies I previously browsed from the browser history when I only remembered a part of the english title...
But in that case I solved the issue (even though it doesn't always work) with a Firefox plugin, Modify Headers, that intercepts and changes the value of the headers sent by the browser to the websites, setting the header "Accept-Language" with the value "en-US". It might probably affect other sites as well, but I'm ok with that.

You can actually do this without an addon, it's in Firefox under options->content->languages

Some games have a .ini or something similar file on their installation folder where they save the game's settings. Sometimes it's possible to change the language through there.

Yeah I know, or sometimes you can even switch the localization folders without consequences, and I usually don't add the tag to those games (even though I would understand if some people would find that annoying as well), unless you have to do an incredible amount of silly passages just to get it to work with the language you want.
But for some games none of this is possible, and the only way to change the language is to change your OS settings..

If there's no in-game option, than you should check if you can change the language by using the properties window (for games in your steam lib).

Thanks for the tip, but I knew that too. :)
Since my Steam language is already set to English, all of my games have English as default language in the properties.
I'm talking about those games that have multiple languages but still ignore every other settings besides the OS ones.

Than it's better just to avoid buying such games. No developer with half a brain would even think that it's a good idea to force users to a specific language.

Is there many games with such limitation? ^^
I cant really name one from my steam library but yeah, thats just my 2 cent xD
OFF: (tbh i mostly put steam in french, having studied the language for about 10 years but it depends of the game too as for example the french voice acting in AOE2HD is awful.

I luckily havent played any of these games. I couldnt stand playing a game in Spanish language (that's my first language but I obviously prefer English).
