For me it's play the game it was meant to be played first, then mod the hell out of it. Not that I personally mod...but I'm willing to use mods from the community as soon as I finish the game.
BTW, I like Cookies & Cream :)

I always do bug fix mods for any game and graphics mods if it's an older game. Also just general improvements that aren't necessarily bug fixes. As well as content that devs were part of the way finished with but that didn't get added in the final release. Aside from those I also prefer not to mod. Content mods always seem lackluster compared to vanilla content. There are some exceptions though.

As fun as Minecraft is, it can get stale after a while. For that reason I do use some mods such as tekkit or FTB for the extra gameplay options, but I do flip between vanilla and modded. I think Minecraft is the only game I play modified though.

I always play Vanilla first, to get the intended experience. Then some things start bugging me and I try to mod them, or to find mods that fix them. But I don't often use mods that change a ton of things, as I find they always have some features that I don't want. I prefer a modular approach, with mini-mods that handle 1 specific thing each.
Also, I almost never use mods that add graphics or extra units/buildings/techs/stuff. My interest in modding is based on changing what's already in the game so it works better, not in stuffing the game with tons of stuff that probably doesn't belong there.
Edit: I like caramel.

I always mod my games when I able to, especially if it's Bethesda games. I'm very picky though, most of my mods only are for bugfix, visual enhancements, gameplay fix, nothing more. Especially Skyrim. That game has way too many things that can be improved but Bethesda give that job to the modders instead. E.g. stupid NPC and followers, unreasonable rich bandits with high-leveled loot, etc.
I tend to keep away from mods that adds way too many new items like weapons and armors, although it's the recommended one.

I play almost every game on Vanilla. I have no interest in mods - I try them after I've completed the game, but they never add anything to the game in my eyes. The one exception is Skyrim - oddly enough I hate that game, but there's a couple of mods that make it playable.

Heya!
As much as I know, a lot of people tend to like to mod games to make them "better". I on the other hand, love to leave the games exactly as they were "supposed to be played". Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind and Minecraft for example. I don't know anyone else, except for myself, that plays those games in "Vanilla" or "raw" mode. When i mod those games, it just doesn't feel the same D:
I did, though, mod the HUD of oblivion. but that's it D: Anyone else? o-o
Edit: P.S. The only game that I've REALLY modded a lot, is Saints Row 2. Because that game is unplayable without Gentleman of the Stillwater (or something?) mod.
