Who has the better multiplayer?

Haven't played SoaSE but afaik it's pretty much mp oriented and I got the impression that XCOM has mp just for the sake of having it. Could be that I'm wrong though.

I've only played LAN multiplayer with Sins, and don't think that playing with random people online is a good idea.
Each game takes forever to finish, and larger maps can take days.
My advice is if you have someone you know that plays Sins, get it. If not, go for XCOM. I've heard that the XCOM multiplayer is somewhat tacky but from what I've seen it's pretty good.

Sins of Solar Empire. It was made specifically for multiplayer - there is no story mode.

This. Single player is the exact same thing as multiplayer, but with AI instead of other players.

I never played XCom, but from what I've heard, the multiplayer feels pretty tacked on.
