I emailed him, waiting for response, I sent a friend invite..... but he hasn't been on in days so that feels pointless, and I'm the last person to leave a comment on his profile in well over a year.

You should ask support to check it, it could be dummy account to enter giveaways (not logging to Steam account for a long time).

I feel really bad for you since there's a weird issue on your very first giveaway :(. My first giveaway went smoothly without any problems at all. I hope this incident won't leave a negative impression about SG on you. Believe me, most of the SG community is really friendly and cooperative. You just can't help it if there's some rotten apples among the really good ones.
