Hi, I'm looking for some games where you take serious (or not so serious) decisions, or make some choices, changing the story of the game. It doesn't have to be on Steam/PC. Any suggestions?

Already played Alpha Protocol and Heavy Rain.

Thanks :)

I would definitely buy this one if it was on the Summer Sale, but I don't think it will, so I'll pass :P

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

One of THE best RPG's I have ever played. It's a bit on the old side though, so graphics go a bit haywire in relation to the camera (ie, your camera goes through things A LOT).

this game is amazing with the patch. the only problem is opening a certain door at the end of the game. that door is stupidely dificult to open.
[edit] i almost forgot! camarilla FTW!

Bioshock only has 1 decision, sacrifice or free the little sisters... i dont think it counts. excelent games

Weeell, yes and no...I mean...you have to make it over and over again. Decisions are framed by context and at different times in the game you may be more or less desperate for ADAM which changes the decision somewhat. If you're doing fine and kicking ass, it's no trouble to let the little sisters live. If you're struggling, and your survival depends on getting more upgrades, the decision becomes harder, i.e. do I sacrifice her for the Greater Good or refuse to compromise in the face of armageddon. ;)

Not that much of a decision, but still I have 1 and 2, awesome games

Well, you can either moralise, and role-play that they're real girls and make the decision to kill or save them meaningful, or you can say "what the fuck, it's just a videogame", in which case, why ascribe meaning/morality to decisions in any game?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well, i always choose to save them since i could never kill a girl without a really good reason. even when i finished the game on hard i never killed them.it's a decision, yes, but it's not meanigfull the storyline like in games like fahrenheit, mass effect ,dragon age , morrowind, heavy rain, warlords battlecry. bioshock 1 has only 3 endings and 2 of those endings are "deleted" for the 2nd. i only finished bioshock 2 once so i dont know how many ending does it have

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's not just the "ending" though. If you save all the little sisters they help you during the final boss battle. If you don't, you're on your own. ;)

You should really get into Visual Novels, if it has to be all about making decisions. One of the best are such ones as Fate/stay night, Kara no Shoujo, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Tsukihime, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Ever17 -the out of infinity-, Chaos;Head, G-Senjou no Maou and many more. Get onto some forum oriented about them and you will learn everything you need to know.

king arthur has some choices. it's a "copy" of total war with fantasy units and a few RPG elements. normaly each storyline has 2 outcomes, a few quests even have 3 or 4 outcomes. i havent finish the game so i don't know how meanigfull the choices are.
fable series has choices but number 2 and 3 are very easy
dawn of war 2 has choices. especially the chaos expansion.
warlords battlecry 3 has choices.

ground control, nevrewinter nights and codename panzer phase1/2. i think these games have choices but it's been a while since i played them so i can't really remember

To be perfectly honest, Heroes 3 is the only game where each session is random and your decisions make or break the result. Besides, the game just pwns every other game:)

Fallout 3 + Broken Steel (DLC). Great game with soo much decision, you have the power to decide how is your character going to be, your allies, change the history and the ending, etc, etc... Give it a try, you will probsbly enjoy it! Btw, you should also check Skyrim.

Get ready for one of the blandest modern videogame endings in history.

My suggestion? Just explore the whole game without finishing the main plot, for your own sake.

after ME3 i dont think there's any ending worse than that. thanks for the advice, i am still exploring a lot and i still havent started the main quest.

A lot of good games have already been mentioned, so I'll add another, probably a bit obscure one - Shadow of Memories (also known as Shadow of Destiny).

It's an adventure game with multiple endings and a really good story, although the gameplay is nothing special and the whole game is a bit slow-paced. However, it is definitely a unique and fun game. Nowadays, it might be hard to find, though.

Pretty much everything I came in here to post has already been named: the Bioware catalog, Alpha Protocol, V:TM Bloodlines, etc.

One that hasn't been mentioned that might or might not fit is Bastion. There are only a few decisions to make with regard to the story, but they're very, very well done.

Mass Effect Trilogy.

But don't play the last part until the end before the new dlc is released!!!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i highly doubt that the DLC will make the ending good. for me the catalist and the plot holes destroyed the ending. If they go with the indocrination teory then i really don't know what to think but undoubtebly that would make the game awesome since they would have been able to deceive most of the players

Try the "Age Of" series. My favorite is Age Of Mythology.
They are from the RTS genre, so you're constantly making decisions. :)

he means decision that change the story of the game like heavy rain, mass effect and alpha protocol. "age of series" is just an RTS, it has no choices that change the story
