Is it possible if I ask my Russian friend to open a region locked gift? Has anyone tried it before ? Will I get banned? (He is a really good friend of mine so he is not going to do anything stupid with my account)

....using VPN or giving the account-information to others is against the terms....but using a embassy or maybe even a russian module on the iss if you are an astronaut is not covered by their terms.

If anyone has tried this before, I seriously doubt they would post about it on the public forums.

I guess you are right but anyway ,it's all thanks to steam for the region lock.

I think it's fine if you only use it to activate games, and not buying them. I have a friend who activated a region-locked game (Metal Gear Rising Revengeance) which is almost a year ago and he hasn't had any problems with it. But he activated a Steam key, and I think it's a US Steam key so I'm not really sure in your case since it's a bit different.

Edit: I just saw someone who activated 12 games through VPN, 2 of them are gifts and the rest are Russian CD Keys ~1-2 years ago and he hasn't had any problems either.

I asked my (real) brother in France to activate a game on my account, he did it and i don't have any problem and am able to play the game now.
Just make sure this guy is a "real" friend, also change your password afterwards.

base on TOS,they will be ban your acc if you used VPN

in my experience,VPN unlock the game early is ok

they just care about money,so
VPN + purchase=ban

I think he meant that some games unlock before in some countries.
