I've had two public giveaways and both winners instantly started playing the game. I've had a private giveaway after that and the winner also started playing the game shortly afterwards. All three were very thankful.
I couldn't say thanks properly for the Faerie Solitaire that I won but the Borderlands GOTY was received with a lot of thanks by me. The fake Mass Effect giveaway that I won earlier was received with a suspension.

Of the giveaways I made, and the keys ive dropped in chat and gaveaway in forums, 75% say thanks. However, I add the user which might inflate the count more then others who might email them.
I also notice that foreigners are less likely to thank then natives. Could be a few things, not pointing any specific fingers...

People make threads saying they hate when everyone says "Thanks" in their giveaways, and the moment people stop threads are made saying nobody says "Thanks" in my giveaways...
What the fuck do you people want? Choose one and stop bitching!

You don't have to bother with these topics if they annoy you. There's plenty of other sites to complain about. You can either complain about this site or complain on some other site. Either way it will make you numb to the whole thing in time anyway.

Two out of my ten public giveaways couldn't be bothered to say thanks after they won. I also gave away ~25 keys in the forums, and twice the one who won neither said thanks nor that he took it (I knew to expect that from Ninjas - they're sneaky, after all). So, for me, forum ninjas are more thankful then public giveaway winners, statistically speaking. Who would have thunk it...

I did three giveaways, only one thanked after. Still, doesn't bother me at all.

As a raffler who got lucky on this site, I'm actually surprised. A lot of people enter up raffles without even bothering to look the top comment to see what exactly they are entering for and not looking if the raffle is legit or not. One of the worst case I've seen so far is how people kept saying thanks you even when the guy said his friend took the giveaway game.
As for saying thanks, i prefers saying it to the giver when i win or when the guy have the game in his inventory and has already given out some successful giveaway before. It's just doesn't feel right to say thanks when there is not a single evidence that the person have the game. And if anything goes wrong, time will see through it.

I always say "Thanks!" when I enter a giveaway, and if I win I say it at least 5 more times.

Group and private tends to bring more thankful winners but it also tends to bring more repeat winners. Public giveaways are a cointoss, 9/10 times you get a winner that doesn't say thanks and has no real interest in playing the game. But public giveaways also has that small chance of the winner being someone who genuinely wishes for the game as is over the moon happy when he wins.

What is this "repeat winners" thing you speak of?

I never watch if my winner says thanks in my giveaway page. The ones who won so far were nice though, tey all said thanks when I sent their gifts.
I didn't say thanks on giveaway pages ether in the past, and then I won a Sanctum complete pack and felt a bit like a jerk not doing at least that much beforehand. Granted, I said thanks through e-mail to the creator of the giveaway, and ever since I drop a line in everything I enter, even some I don't. I'm doing that because it seems to be common sense to me, but I don't require any of my entrants to drop a line, I'm perfectly fine if they don't.

Well, most winners from my giveaway did not said thank you

Maybe I haven't done many giveaways but I can remember only one situation when the winner haven't said 'thank u' (it was a private giveaway with maybe 20 entries and the winner wasn't a kind person, just a bad luck :) )
I remember that one of the winners didn't know any foreign language and wrote that 'even though I don't understand him, he thanks me' in russian (thank u google translate! ;) ).
It's a really great feeling when somebody can appreciate the contributor.

I've done a bunch of giveaways... public, private, group, contributor.. overall I'd say about half the people that won my giveaways never said thanks to me, not even as a comment on the giveaway after they won. HALF. It's just depressing. One of the more recent winners didn't even redeem the game so I had to make a support ticket (of course one of the ones that didn't say thanks). I have games in my inventory I bought MONTHS ago just to give out on sg and I don't even want to anymore, they've just been sitting there. So, what have your experiences been with winners?
