You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you are not a member of the required Steam groups.

So I'm seeing this because I'm not a member of that group which is fine, but the GA has an interesting picture/name.
I would like to know more about the game and would like to have a quick link to steam. Is there any particular reason why the the clickable picture is missing here?

Just a random GA which does not show a clickable picture for me: https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/1V4cV/absolver

So while we're at it, I have another couple of suggestions (I don't want to open more threads and be spamming this whole board).

  • Allow the start date of a GA to be left empty to indicate that it should start immediately after creation;
    More info: After pressing the Now button and the Review button, I sometimes go back to the creation page mostly to edit the description. When I then press Review again, a minute might have passed and I get an error because now my start date is in the past. It's a minor nuance and I could just teach myself to just press the now button again or I might give myself some edit leeway and place the start date in the future to begin with. It's just that having the option of leaving the field empty would save me some time.
  • [difficult one] Show a preview of the message you're about to post, so you can see whether your formatting has been done correctly;

Edit: Moved additional suggestions to OP. Elaborated on suggestion. bad joke

I have been in the same situation many times. I just want to quickly get to the Steam store page for the game, but there is no link. It's not a big deal, but it's a little annoying when pretty much every other page on the site has a direct link to the Steam page.

well, yeah.. browsing through a random user page, you can't click on invite-only giveaways but you can click on group giveaways and it redirects you to the message you get on the link above (I can't enter in that one too), but you get the game name so you can just search it and go on the steam page..
the invite-only ones though feature only the name and a non-clickable image, so if the name is quite long you can't get many information about it..
Idk, it would probably be nice as you said to have a direct link to the Steam page and only that, without seeing private information in the giveaway page for the group members and those who can enter! maybe =P

Yeah, I can find the steam page just fine. I'm quite new here. I expected to just be handed a link, like for the other GAs.

So while we're at it, [snip]; Up top.--^

If you want to add that to the original post to keep the thread more organized and make it easier for people to find, you can edit the original post by clicking the drop down arrow next to the "open" button on the top right.

In case you haven't been told this yet, Welcome to SG!

I get your frustration. Having a link to the steam page would be nice, but it isn't in Vanilla SG.
Thankfully, however, there are scripts to solve it such as ESGST (Option 2.18) which is available as both a Tampermokey/greasemonkey script and as an extension for FF & Chrome. I highly recommend this extension. Despite being a bit overwhelming at first with all of the various options (some of which I still find daunting and thus ignore), it greatly improves one's SG experience and is reasonably self-explanatory.
This is an illustration of the links as they appear on that giveaway page with ESGST and SquishedPotatoe's Dark Grey Theme with the ESGST explanation of those buttons above.

I also strongly recommend the script SGLinkies. it provides an answer to many of the other things i found mildly frustrating about Vanilla SG.

I entered SG in Internet Explorer (ewww) without add-ons (not that I have any, as I don't use it). And there is link to Steam next to the giveaway name. Both on main page, and created / won pages.

You can't access giveaway page per se (just see not part of the group message), as you're not part of the group. So you can't have access to list of entrants, comments etc.

Allow the start date of a GA to be left empty to indicate that it should start immediatelly after creation;

Just click "Now' when you pick giveaway starts time.

I think it's in suggestions for years now :P ESGST have this feature from what I know. I just use one of my old GAs to post reply in description, so I can see format errors. Not perfect, but best thing we have with tools available.

I know. But to access this page they need to click on GA image.

Only use this feature could have (that I can think of) is having GAs in bookmarks.

If they click on Steam icon (next to the game name) instead of on big GA image - they will access Steam page directly.

Isn't a big problem, I know, but a lot of times like three or four times I clicked on a link to find a page like this. It would be nice if the link with the name of the game could lead to the Steam page, instead of the same GA again.

edit: misunderstood things

So I'm seeing this because I'm not a member of that group which is fine, but the GA has an interesting picture/name.

Instead of opening the giveaway itself, just click on the little Steam icon just after the game's name and required points to enter

ESGST has a feature that would look up the game on steam.

  1. Giveaways
    -- 18.[SG]Giveaway Error Search Links
What does it do?
If you cannot access a giveaway because of many different reasons, a "Search Links" row is added to the table of the error page containing 4 links that allow you to search for the game elsewhere:
A SteamGifts icon that allows you to search for open giveaways of the game on SteamGifts.
 allows you to search for the game on Steam.
 allows you to search for the game on SteamDB.
 allows you to search for the game on Barter.vg.
