Steam Libraries Are Getting An Overhaul [article]

I dont like the sound of this update. The idea to see when my games update is okay but then it has to download anyway if I will plan to play it/again so its kinda unneeded for me still. Maybe it will be fine when it happens but just the look of it doesn't make me happy. I'm fine with how it currently is

I wonder how badly it will break with largish libraries(a few thousand games)...

I am not interested in any of these new features, not the re-design itself, not the focus on events nor what people in my friendslist do. Personally, I see this (from those descriptions) as a wholly unneeded and unwanted change for me.

I hope they don't break what's working fine now.

All I want is to have all my games in one place and in alphabetical order.

I want a game library, I'd rather stick with what Steam had, not another page for advertising my games (like Origin, Uplay, and EPIC)

Individual game pages in the Steam library are also getting re-trolled

All I want is an easier way to see when games I have had been updated... but I'm interested in seeing how it goes. I like how they overhauled the wishlist - I'm optimistic.

The few leftover good things of Steam is that it had one small segment without bullshit. User has a list of games they may want to play, user's library view is a list of games in alphabetical order they can select to play.
You do not have to enter a menu, tell the system that no, you are not interested in the latest news, messages, updates, promos, and subscruiption models, then select the games menu in some hidden sub-sub menu, then scroll through another batch of "recommended" games before reaching your own ones, where then you can start the mighty quest of finding that fucking one you want to play, because alphabetical orders are only existing in myths and at best you can fit 3-8 large flashy colourful tiles on screen.
So, you know, it is not a goddamn PS4/Xbone menu system.

I really love sound of that. Like you said, fallowing updates for games one by one was bothering me. I hope they can create something good.

non of those added features are needed by me nor will i use them so as far as i see it this change is just bloat.

Make it optional and be it.

Looks like the game-list on the left is mainly kept untouched. I was a little afraid there for a moment, because this is pretty much the only thing in steam that works perfectly as it is.

The new functions could be a nice bonus, but looks like they can also ignored if you don´t need em. If they add it like this, I´m fine with it.

I'm also afraid that it will only bloat without much benefits, but we will see. Sadly these changes are inevitable as we don't have any input in Valve's decisions.

some valve games have started getting updates more constantly, could it be Valve waking out of their slumber.

I'd love to be able to see update for my games instead of having to follow each one of them but for the rest I reserve my opinion until I see it.

As long as I have an option to revert back to how it currently is, I don't mind and would like to give it a try as something new maybe better than what it is currently.

Sure, the library could be a lot better than it is, but looking at their other recent updates, I don't think it will. If the DLC update and Publisher page update and friends list and chat update will be anything to go by, the new library will be:

• buggy.
• a LOT slower.
• a lot more visually busy and a lot harder to find the info I need.

I don't want bells and whistles, I just want something that is fast, responsive, and works. I stopped using the DLC and Publisher pages and friends list / chat almost completely because of their updates making them almost unusable for me. I can't really stop using my library ....

Awesome. I was hoping Steam would do something new.
Also I love when interfaces are interactive and sleek. this could improve the users experience

I would love something new regarding the library as such, because it feels very clustered if you have a lot of games.. Manually sorting them gets harder the more games I get.. And eventually some games drifts into background with already played games and "maybe some time" games..I suppose its not problem for everybody - but I would be interested in sorting mechanism as well..

I feel like I have to add - Im quit a visual person. Aside from performance and practicality I need it to look good. So new features and visually beautiful is a go from me.

edit - just noticed in the article that sorting by game tags will come - thats cool

I hope it will be easy to make skins for it and / or turn off some parts of menu.

i'd like to have:

• game with playtime
• achievements
• screenshots
• trading cards
• updates (without eve events)
• DLC.

Other parts of game tab UI are only cluttering view for me.

It's funny too that they will be adding tags when I already categorized all of my games beforehand.

No offense to my friends list but i don't give a flying Fudge what they're doing or playing.
Nor do I want them to know what I'm doing.
I don't want devs to have the ability to bombard me with ads (ie announcements for other projects/games) and other nonsense .
Also I use a skin for my Steam client so this will undoubtedly break it.
If all of these new bells and whistles are optional and customizable it's all good if not I'll have to hope my skin creator updates.

Seeing how the rest of the client updates went I don't have high hopes for this one.

I don't know, I'm happy to see Valve working on their client. I'm sure once it comes out in Beta they'll listen to feedback and adjust. I'm optimistic

So actual useful searches like rating, tags, genres, developers, cards etc. be damned I suppose, just useless crap...
