what do you think about these upcoming changes?
I dont like the sound of this update. The idea to see when my games update is okay but then it has to download anyway if I will plan to play it/again so its kinda unneeded for me still. Maybe it will be fine when it happens but just the look of it doesn't make me happy. I'm fine with how it currently is

As one who just about only plays single-player games, I could not agree more.
If this is brought on by epic's stuff--Who cares? I dislike epic's store page and would never use it in its current state if I had an alternative (which, thankfully, I do: Steam. Or GOG. Or Humble. Or BundleStars.)
Changing stuff to match epic is akin to all the laptop makers chasing apple's stupidity by making laptops--even so called "workstation laptops"--thinner, lighter, widescreen-to-the-extent-that-they-are, and "more streamlined" to the severe detriment of what they can actually do. I looked at a macbook. I could not actually plug enough stuff in at once to make it usable for my needs.

All I want is an easier way to see when games I have had been updated... but I'm interested in seeing how it goes. I like how they overhauled the wishlist - I'm optimistic.

this. it's really annoying to get an update queued and have to go all the way to the store page to find out why, or a game gets cheevos added and since you already finished&uninstalled there's no quick way to find that out.
i'm kinda eh about how image-heavy it all looks but hopefully there'll be settings in place to tone that down. data saver option or something.

Yeah, I agree. I'm also not loving how achievements are now down and off to the side - I liked having them up top.
Hm. Well, we'll see!

https://completionist.me/ For tracking achievements added to previously completed games I find this quite handy. I check now and then to see if any of my finished games were updated with new cheevos.

The few leftover good things of Steam is that it had one small segment without bullshit. User has a list of games they may want to play, user's library view is a list of games in alphabetical order they can select to play.
You do not have to enter a menu, tell the system that no, you are not interested in the latest news, messages, updates, promos, and subscruiption models, then select the games menu in some hidden sub-sub menu, then scroll through another batch of "recommended" games before reaching your own ones, where then you can start the mighty quest of finding that fucking one you want to play, because alphabetical orders are only existing in myths and at best you can fit 3-8 large flashy colourful tiles on screen.
So, you know, it is not a goddamn PS4/Xbone menu system.

THIS. I have pretty much sorted my 2000+ games into genres, but I'll be damned if I am going to break all of those down into sub-genres for the ones that offer multiplayer that my cousin or some friend also owns.

I just hope they have the sense to have an option to have the old interface on the client's individual game pages. Of course, they don't usually have the sense to do something like that.
(I'm talking about detail view here) Having on each game's page that concise list of links to the left, and categories too--visible all at one time because it's so condensed--that could not get more useful or convenient. Now it looks like there making it so you'd have to scroll several screens down to find all that.
If they really do entirely get rid of that wonderfully concise links/category list in detail view I'm going to be so disappointed.

They really messed up with the new wishlist at first. They forgot that not everyone uses a 20+" monitor, uses 4K, or has a touchscreen or similar, and thus wouldn't mind tiles.
After enough of us kicked and screamed long and hard enough, they added "compact mode." [AKA reasonable mode 😝 ]
I use the list on the left, the list on the right, my stats at the top, and occasionally--almost never--use the middle section, unless I'm trying to find where they hide screenshots on my HDD.

There few things i don't like about that page.
First, i can enter this through store page, but the library.
Secondly, only 8 news. There are people with thousands of games...
(and as you can see, there are people that don't know even it exists, i was one of them close time ago)

non of those added features are needed by me nor will i use them so as far as i see it this change is just bloat.

Looks like the game-list on the left is mainly kept untouched. I was a little afraid there for a moment, because this is pretty much the only thing in steam that works perfectly as it is.
The new functions could be a nice bonus, but looks like they can also ignored if you don´t need em. If they add it like this, I´m fine with it.

I didn't think of that.
Now I'm worried.
That last thing my toaster needs is for Steam to gobble up memory.

some valve games have started getting updates more constantly, could it be Valve waking out of their slumber.

We can only hope ;) Guess a serious competitor was what they needed.. not sure if its already too late, though :/

That functionality already existed in Steam for quite some time.

As long as I have an option to revert back to how it currently is, I don't mind and would like to give it a try as something new maybe better than what it is currently.

Sure, the library could be a lot better than it is, but looking at their other recent updates, I don't think it will. If the DLC update and Publisher page update and friends list and chat update will be anything to go by, the new library will be:
I don't want bells and whistles, I just want something that is fast, responsive, and works. I stopped using the DLC and Publisher pages and friends list / chat almost completely because of their updates making them almost unusable for me. I can't really stop using my library ....

How are they unusable ? I could agree with DLC page - simple list would be more easier to use. But whats exactly wrong with publishers page ? And even the DLC page isnt really missing anything, aside from making it more visual. And what exactly dont you like about the new firends list/chat update ? Its great now and works perfectly - old one was a bunch of mess in my opinion
You know, just wondering here if Im missing something crucial you particularly hate about those things

I suppose if theres a lot of games and DLCs from publisher then problems could arise, but browsing store and checking out game series on publishers page hasnt really been a problem for me. Everything is in place and rather visible for me. so cant share this dislike with you guys either..

Can't sort or filter. Can't see info I need at a glance, It takes up A LOT more space (and I have a small, non-widescreen monitor). "Works perfectly" is also not true here, they take a lot longer to load and sometimes don't work at all (friends, chat mostly) -- with fast internet you might not notice but not everybody has that. I'm also old and probably just not the target audience for flashy pages that are all show and no info. Info doesn't fit on the page anymore and needs several clicks of changing tabs, scrolling, and changing pages, and even then not all of the info is there.
Less visual is more. But different strokes for different folks, and if the majority likes it (doubt it though), I'll just shut up and grumble in silence ;)

Thanks for explaining ;)
Havent personally run into problems with chat myself, thats why I asked

Awesome. I was hoping Steam would do something new.
Also I love when interfaces are interactive and sleek. this could improve the users experience
I would love something new regarding the library as such, because it feels very clustered if you have a lot of games.. Manually sorting them gets harder the more games I get.. And eventually some games drifts into background with already played games and "maybe some time" games..I suppose its not problem for everybody - but I would be interested in sorting mechanism as well..
I feel like I have to add - Im quit a visual person. Aside from performance and practicality I need it to look good. So new features and visually beautiful is a go from me.
edit - just noticed in the article that sorting by game tags will come - thats cool

I hope it will be easy to make skins for it and / or turn off some parts of menu.
i'd like to have:
Other parts of game tab UI are only cluttering view for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
instead of skins it would be nice if they implemented a fully costumizable game info screen, where you can not only show and hide parts of the menu, but also drag around and orient the different layers based on your preferences, which would give an individual touch to the new UI.

It's funny too that they will be adding tags when I already categorized all of my games beforehand.

No offense to my friends list but i don't give a flying Fudge what they're doing or playing.
Nor do I want them to know what I'm doing.
I don't want devs to have the ability to bombard me with ads (ie announcements for other projects/games) and other nonsense .
Also I use a skin for my Steam client so this will undoubtedly break it.
If all of these new bells and whistles are optional and customizable it's all good if not I'll have to hope my skin creator updates.

I don't know, I'm happy to see Valve working on their client. I'm sure once it comes out in Beta they'll listen to feedback and adjust. I'm optimistic

"Steam library are also getting re-tooled, again with a focus on providing players with information about updates, events, and friends."
So actual useful searches like rating, tags, genres, developers, cards etc. be damned I suppose, just useless crap...
Greeeeeeeeeaaaaaat.

https://kotaku.com/steam-libraries-are-getting-an-overhaul-1833473185
personally: i'm actually thrilled that the updates will be aggregated into the client because right now i have to manually "follow" each game that i think will be getting active updates in the hopes that i see them on my activity feed; cuts some of the work down for the user to keep up with things. the rest of it tho i'm just gonna wait and see how it works and if it makes things harder or easier to organize.
