iPhone 5s vs iPhone SE
not THAT high EXACLY :D
any helpfull suggestions instead of this?
Comment has been collapsed.
Helpful suggestion: for the same money, you'd get a really nice Android. It just seems you're trying to buy something as some kind of status symbol or a trophy of "coolness", even if it's actually worse than what else you could get for same money. If being smart is less important to you than being cool (or trying to be, with old phones it's not that guaranteed), then go for the SE, it's apparently more cool. No one will know how many gigs you have there anyway, all they see is the #swag

yeah, thnx... he/she thinks im an apple fanboy orsomething... I appreciat android as much as I do with Apple...
some people do not understand that everyone has their own preferences

There is literally nothing that an Apple product can do that an Android product half the price can't. Excluding proprietary software and hardware, of course.

I jailbroke my ipod and it destroyed the battery, removed my warranty, and when I tried to change it back, it wouldn't let me. Rooting an Android device does NOT void the warranty, does NOT require life support, and unrooting is as simple as pressing a button.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are comparing and iPod, which is not a phone, with a phone, which is not a music player. If jailbreaking destroyed your battery, it means you did something wrong. My jailbroken iPhone works normally without any loss in performance and battery life. Jailbreaking does not void your warranty if you unjailbreak your phone before going to the store, does NOT require life support, and unjailbreaking a phone is as simple as pressing a button.
Comment has been collapsed.
You did something very dumb than while jailbreaking it... U were throwing with ur phone perhaps while jailbreaking?
lol... and if you want to unjailbreak ur device again just go to factory settings... its as simple as that

Oh my god the anti-hype....
Android's got good sides and bad sides. IOS has good sides and bad sides.
Both are modifiable. Both are supported. Both have a good storefront. Both can look very sleek and fancy. Both have longevity.
They are both good systems. They've improved on eachother's mistakes by looking at the other system. Don't pretend like one is objectively better than the other...
Comment has been collapsed.
No, I get what you mean. My tatas are hakuna'd ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
But what I'm saying is you get what you pay for. Buying a cheap smartphone is the dumbest move a consumer can make. Their hardware is weak. The OS that they use is never optimized for them and they suffer with slowdowns and bugs/errors almost right after you bought them. If you want a phone, get the cheap option for sure. My 10€ phone has lasted me 2 years now without a single glitch. It's a brick that has a battery life of about 1-2 weeks (With calls and stuff).
You either buy a cheap smartphone that utilizes the Android OS that will never acknowledge it's existence, meaning no optimization, buy a cheap normal phone with limited usability, but works amazingly as a PHONE. Or the last option is to throw money at something more expensive that'll last you for about 5-6 years in the minimum (bodily damage doesn't count, obviously)
If you have a limited budget, a second hand IPhone 4 will do you good, especially if you know how to jailbreak it and mess around with the OS a bit by installing programs and lightly alter some code (easy to find "How to"s on Google)
Comment has been collapsed.
Wait, there are people who still use phones for... calling? :o
Anyway, I have a Sony Xperia S, bought around the time when it came out.... can't say I have all these issues with it that you seem to think Android phones have. To be fair, I've never used an iPhone, but from what I know, they're not exactly any more durable than Android phones, if that's what you're into. They didn't even make it to the list.
There are some "a birdie told me" talks going around that Apple stuff has better quality and all that, but as much as I've tried them (I was once young and stupid enough to buy a MacBook) I'm pretty convinced you mostly pay for the name.
Comment has been collapsed.
On the Mac front you're more than right. It's literally just the brand holding it up.
If you look at the list though, there's no real consumer-grade smartphone on that list, except the Xcover 3. Xcover 3 however is not a very good phone in terms of it's hardware and so on. All the other phones were stuff like CAT and Kyocera. In terms of my argument, I meant that IPhones are not more fragile than Android phones.
Xperia S is one of those phones that was definitely on the radar for Android. Supported and all. But look at the price of it when it came out. £400... That's $565. The price is almost as much as a new IPhone SE 64GB. It's actually cheaper with a $500 price tag.
Take into account that I bought my Touch for €200, a.k.a. $232. It's a weaker machine too. It's older than the Xperia you have by 2 years and it still handles itself quite well. Although it's getting harder to watch porn. A few ad-ridden sites tend to freeze a bit, since flashy gif ads everywhere and no mobile version of them.
Apple stuff is definitely not higher quality in terms of it's physical attributes. It's practically the same. Their CPU might be slightly better, but at the same time an Android phone might have a higher quality body and so on. What an Apple device excels in is the software. Now, hear me out on this. Since there's only about 2-3 devices that they really have to focus on. They can focus on one thing and do it well, compared to Android which is doing 100 things in an extremely mediocre fashion. Android updates are almost always buggy on release and they almost 100% of the time break a few models along the way, since they weren't focused on. That is Apple's trump card. Also, Apple is usually (not always) easier to use for a newcomer, while also being fairly maneuverable in terms of customization.
It's just that I used to dislike Apple too, since they had their godawful Mac and they looked pretentious af. But once I bought the IPod Touch 4G, I have changed my opinion of them. It's easy to make fun of Apple for making the relatively same thing over and over again. But that begs the question: Why don't they change their formula? Because it works. And it works pretty damn well.

Xperia S, price group 5/10 iPhone SE, price group 8/10
If you look at the list though, there's no real consumer-grade smartphone on that list
I thought we were talking about which phones are more durable?
If you want to pay for durability, then buy one of the rugged phones. If not, buy one that has what you need... but the thing is, if you're on a budget and want a good thing, you generally don't go for the overpriced "luxury product" when there are cheaper alternatives around that have actually better stats to boot.
Android updates are almost always buggy on release and they almost 100% of the time break a few models along the way, since they weren't focused on.
Never encountered that problem, not sure what you mean.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, I tried looking up what the "Price group" thing meant, but I couldn't find info on it, but I was talking of the prices during release. And during release the Xperia was more expensive than SE on release. That was my point. The Xperia S is a phone that's over 3 years old. Obviously it's currently cheaper.. .-.
We're talking of durability ON a consumer-grade smartphone. Yeah, I could buy a CAT phone, but guess what, I don't need THAT kind of durability. I want basic defense against the elements. I compared it with other con-gr phones.
Also, please show me a phone that is actually better, cheaper and with a better software support than an IPhone. Also, don't forget about the longevity and the artificial longevity that you can add. A.k.a. about 4 years naturally and 2-3 years artificially.
One thing that I want to remind is that you should remember how to compare the CPUs on them, since while the IPhone generally has less cores, the cores it has are better than all the other cores on the other phone.
Also... your last argument is ridiculous. You're using a Sony product that was AAA price on release and that is still being used by many users. Obviously you have no problems. Now look at Overmax, Huawei, Lenovo, ZTE, Gigabyte, Toshiba, Panasonic, Hitachi, Motorola and these days even the older HTCs... Now you might be thinking: "Why are you bringing up these companies? What about Samsung, Sony and some other big guys?" Well, let me elaborate. As you know already, there's a race to the bottom in terms of price with the manufacturers. THOSE companies offer you new phones that offer the cheap options on release. I'll elaborate on the reason even. It's the software. Google makes the software, so the only thing you can compete on is hardware and price. People being dumb, don't care about hardware and they care only for price. And that makes manufacturers cut corners. That's it.
The big companies offer only expensive solutions, just like Apple. Samsung Galaxy Mini, the phone that was supposed to be the cheaper variant died out very quickly. No support, no real hardware. There's only a small price
Comment has been collapsed.
during release the Xperia was more expensive than SE on release.
Some decades ago, there were huge computers that were so expensive that only NASA and such could afford them for their missions, and those machines had only a fraction of today's average PC's power. Yes, things like that lose value over time, because there will be ways to produce better stuff for cheaper cost. How is that even relevant here what something cost when it came out? If you buy a phone now, you buy it for what it costs now, not when it came out and the standards were different. If you want to compare Xperia S to something, compare it to iPhone 5 that came out a few months later and has quite similar worse stats, but sits at 7/10 price group.
Also, please show me a phone that is actually better, cheaper and with a better software support than an IPhone.
Most Androids.
THOSE companies offer you new phones that offer the cheap options on release.
"Big" Android phone companies are still cheaper. No, you don't have to buy Huawei to benefit from Android phone price.
Google makes the software, so the only thing you can compete on is hardware and price.
Isn't that awesome?
People being dumb, don't care about hardware and they care only for price.
Oh, wow. Apple fanboy calling Android users dumb. That's a first.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, let's start this up then....
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not an Apple fanboy, by the way.
Yes you are. I would say you're not if you were only trying to argue for iPhones' good sides, but you're actually trying to turn their bad sides into good, which is a very fanboy thing to do. So let's take the durability and price thing that you seem to be claiming iPhones have better, which is pretty ridiculous, but here goes.
Durability test for good Android phone vs. iPhone
Comparison of specs and prices of those phones, showing that Android is clearly superior and cheaper.
It's about time that people figure out what it means to have objective thinking about stuff.
I don't think it's very objective to claim that you can get iPhone that's more durable and has same specs for the same or cheaper price than Android.
But really, whatever. It seems to be clear now that no matter how many links I paste, you have no intention to change your mind over this stuff. It's okay, you can stay in the lala-land where iPhones are cheaper than similar Android phones, but since this conversation serves no purpose, I'm not going to bother with it anymore. Peace out.
Comment has been collapsed.
I had a fair bit of text here showing some stuff, but as you pointed out, it serves no purpose. You like Android, I like both. It's all cool. :)
One thing though, please take this seriously... don't name-call. Seriously. "OOH this is typical Apple fanboy lolololol" It's just immature. Not like I'm any better, you.... toasterwaggler! (Got ya!)
But overall, it was fun having this discussion. Whitelisted :)
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not name-calling when I'm stating the obvious. If you like both, then maybe you should admit that Android phones do offer better hardware, more durable phones at cheaper prices than iPhone, instead of trying to turn all the pros into cons. I think I've been objective enough here, and my main point was mostly that "I want iPhone on a budget" is kind of an oxymoron. Never said they're "shit" or something, but there are better options for people who want stuff on budget.
Thanks for the whitelist, most of the time when someone argues with me here, it'll be the other button.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, you dare have a different opinion!?! Get out, you heathen!
Although, I'd like to link an article that shows why Androids actually require better hardware.
I never properly knew why and this was an interesting read overall. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
There are people in comments saying it's not really like that, but even if we assume those are fanboys, the two phones in one of my links should have similar performance then, since they're 3 vs. 1 GB anyway, yet the price and durability difference favors my "fangirl target", as well as the camera and screen... so yeah, not really seeing much going on for iPhones other than "it's a complete product". But that's just not worth it, imo. That's for people who have money and don't care. And I'm definitely not like that, not only about phones, but computers too (always better to build than buy a complete one). And when someone asks for "iPhone on budget" I just wonder what's going on in their minds.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I think everyone wants the best for as cheap as possible.
I'd say the IPhone and Samsung are both really good smartphones.
It's like Xbox One and PS4. Samsung's like the big black dog. Reliable, but stubborn and kind of slow in the head. The IPhone on the other hand is like the excited golden retriever. Happy and fast, but sometimes goes crazy, pisses itself and dies.
And the cheap option of an Android phone is a small yippy dog. Really excited for a bit, but then gets run over in the next few months.
The IPhone definitely has the factor of "I'll pay $50 extra and I'll know what I'll get, since I couldn't care enough".
Comment has been collapsed.
The new iPhone SE is basically a budget phone... its 399 dollar and almost the same as the iphone 6s despite the 3d touch and 4,7 inch screen... I love the iphone 5 casing.
If you compare the new samsung galaxy s7 with a 6s, its almost similair... s7 is slighty better eventhough it has better components, but iOS is way better in optimizing and it always feel smooth...
Im sure the iPhone 7 will be pretty bad ass...
Comment has been collapsed.
iPhone 4 is no longer my recommendation. The A4 chip is ultra weak in comparison with today's apps. My phone is currently struggling to function appropriately with lags and sometimes crashes. My suggestion is buying at least 5s or higher. They are all pretty cheap now that SE has been released.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I'm talking of second hand here, obviously and you could get the IPhone 4 for a price of 32€-75€.
The price is massively different. Also, the cheap smartphones aren't getting the updates for Android that were optimized for them. Also, you can immediately see that the 180€ version only has 1GB of RAM and Android needs about 2-3 times the RAM. It's the Java Garbage Collection that mostly requires it. That phone will have a lot of crashes and freezes.
Comment has been collapsed.
By "hack" you mean plugging it into your computer and downloading a program? I guess so, fine. But it's not a hassle. It requires about 15 minutes of your time in the beginning and the later stuff that you do is as easy as messing with an Android device. I'm not talking of changing the OS. Your analogy is the worst analogy being applied here. Why? Because it's like buying an Android to get iOS on it. THAT is the analogy. All we're doing is modifying the OS to suit our needs.

The analogy is that you want to buy an iOS device to make it "as easy to mess around with as Android". You said it yourself. Why not buy an Android, if you want something that's easy to mess around like Android?

I just want a future proof system, what would last longer without seen as ''outdated''
Comment has been collapsed.
thats true, very true, btu some apps do get rid of older iOS devices quite quickly. and I like the idea thats it will be supported longer by apple. Newer software updates will make older devices slower and slower (same as my current 4s) and I dotn want to happen that anytime soon with the 5s.. but ill definitely consider buying a it, thnx :)
Comment has been collapsed.
By outdated, I meant without new OSes. You don't have to use latest software and you will still be able to use older versions of apps. The only thing you need to consider is that are features that comes with new software really worth it? (Because new versions of apps gets similar features with os itself and we all know Apple.)
And there is another difference in hardware part: Camera system. (And maybe battery, I'm not sure about it.) So, think about these before buying. :3.
Comment has been collapsed.
Iphone 5SE of course, better performance, battery and better camera. and its probably just 200$ more (max). you probably cant use iphone 5 after 2 years, it will go very slow and even now some things dont work on iphone 5. so go for the SE it still will be decent after 2 years

to late, ive been using apple for years and i have everything fro apple except my computer and laptop...
Everyone has their own needs and wants, and I prefer apple because it lasts long, its user friendly, and iOS is smooth eventhough it has no quad core etc... ive tried android once but its nothing for me. ill stick to apple, but thnx anyway

Well, I don't like nor Android nor iOS, so I gone with Windows Phone (currently Lumia 735)
Somewhat cheaper than Apple devices, somewhat more stable than Android ones. I am not a phone gamer too, and there is only a little good apps in Marketplace (hence <5% market share)
Check it out, if market have all apps you need, maybe you should try it? Oh, and there is no Hearthstone (yet), if it is a factor for you.
If you are about only these 2 then I will recommend an iPhone SE, cuz it have newer hardware and will get longer support
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep. Lumia has iOS speed at Android price. And if one is not an app whore, it has almost everything one needs, despite the small app store. Not to mention that it is so optimised that my Lumia 532 is my first smartphone that managed to survive an entire week on one charge (granted, I didn't talk too much on that week…).
Comment has been collapsed.
The only thing I don't like about my Windows Phone is that It's missing most of the local apps over here, sad how everyone ignores it :(
Having an App for the service they provide but not a website which does the same is a trend... sort of.
Comment has been collapsed.
Cheaper != better. I'd recommend the SE but 16gb isn't enough space if you're going to be playing many games on it or plan on putting music on it. It'll be fine for pics since you can just upload all your stuff to the cloud but I'm pretty sure you'll regret getting a 16gb phone very soon. You'll be better off saving another $100 and getting the 64gb, it'll make a huge difference in your enjoyment of the phone.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, well I stream music and my pictures are automatically placed into my cloud. I currently use 4 gb for my basic stuff, so I think ill be alright with 16gb... bbut idk yet, i might regret it since there are more limitations with the 16gb version.
thnx for your opinion :D
Comment has been collapsed.
I had an 8GB phone for years without any issues. As I later needed more room for photos and stuff, I added an SD card (32GB). They are very cheap nowadays (you can easily find a 64GB sd card for 15€ on ebay or whatever, 25€ if you want a good one).

yeah I understand but, apple will support a 2016 device logner then a device from 2013 i guess..?
I'll think about it anyways, thanks :)

Swappa.com
go
you're better off owning your phone than paying it off over 2 years from your carrier and being locked into a contract anyway
Comment has been collapsed.
You can get new ones on swappa too, though the issues with getting a used phone are very much mitigated by Apple's device security measures if that's your concern.
Slickdeals.net is a fantastic forum for finding good deals on new tech stuff too actually. Just create an account on there with your email address and set an email alert for whatever you're looking for. When a good deal gets posted for whatever you told it to watch for, the site will email you a link.
Comment has been collapsed.
SD is one of the better ones of those "similar websites" based purely on the sheer amount of activity there alone.
Finding deals on Apple products is always harder (less frequent) than on non-apple stuff, but you have Apple to thank for that and most people know that when they decide they want an Apple product anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
People usually recommend things that provide a good service. Not sure why there's a mystery here to you.

Those brands are currently very pricey if you want the newest from the newest software. Dont get me wrong, im not an apple fanboy but i just prefer iOS since ive been using ios since my first device.

hmm yeah, would love to get the 64gb also but i dont have enough money for that D: they charge way to much for apple product in europa in comparison with the USA ;V

I could afford a 64 gb version if there were no taxes and import costs... usa lucky bastards :( lol

Definitely the 5S
You're going to pay $400 for a 16GB phone? If you like taking pictures and put a few games on it you're going to fill that thing up really fast.
You can get a good 5S 32GB for $250 or less on swappa
https://swappa.com/buy/apple-iphone-5s?action=buy
edit - plus accessories (cases and such) are going to be cheaper for the 5S most likely since it's an older model that people are moving away from.
another edit - what cell carrier do you use?
Comment has been collapsed.
I store my pics on the cloud so that not a problem, and I buy my phone sim unlocked. The problem is the iPhone 5s is still around 375 euro in my country while the iPhone se is almost 500 euro (16GB)
Comment has been collapsed.
Bah, that stinks. It looks like there isn't a lot of activity on swappa for the EU market: https://swappa.com/devices/apple?market=eu&search=5s&type=phone&platform=ios
It still would be worth your time to poke around in the US market section in the link in my comment above to see if you can get one cheaper than 375. At about 250 USD that's just under 225 euro before shipping I think. So for half the price of the SE, a 5S with double the space is still going to be able to play games very, very well and just sounds like a better fit for your budget.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah would love to ship a cheaper device to this country, but I prefer a new device since you have no idea how it looks like and what happened with it. but thnx anyway :DD
Comment has been collapsed.
In that case I'd still very much lean toward the 5S. Limiting yourself on storage space is a long term annoyance. Even with cloud archiving your photos, games and apps will fill up a 16GB model pretty soon and then you'll be playing app shuffle trying to make more space or wondering why the device is running so slowly (lack of space brings these things to a screeching halt pretty quickly as I'm sure you've seen before.
Either way, best of luck to you in finding whichever one suits you and your budget :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Vote for SE
It would last for 2years+, but you might want to choose bigger storage if you're into that heavy gaming.
By heavy gaming i mean storage eater like asphalt/gta.
Otherwise, 16gb is enough as you don't have to store your music since there's apple radio or whatsoever.
Though 16GB version is like, only 12-13GB free space available
Comment has been collapsed.
I currently have an ipod touch 5, and ipad also and for those devices its actualy enough... but I guess iOS 9 is larger on a iPhone?
iPad and iPod are both still on ios 8 so idk if iOS9 is larger or not
(both 12,7 gb available)
Comment has been collapsed.
okay thnx! I think it will be fine with 16gb since I own a 4s atm with 8 gb (5.3 gb available with 1.5 gb unused) I only have social media and small games on this and keep the rest on my cloud or I stream stuff like films etc.
More storage would be better but apple doesnt have a 32 gb version for the SE -____- too bad
thanks for ur opinion :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I have a 5C (budget) and it is definitely sluggish after updating to IOS 9.0. I would go ahead and future-proof. Sounds like 16GB is sufficient given your use of Cloud. I'm waiting until my phone contract ends and will pick up a 6.
Comment has been collapsed.
Buy one outright, not from your carrier: https://swappa.com/buy/apple-iphone-6/
I have not bought a phone from a carrier in years now and I LOVE being able to hop from one carrier to another whenever I want to or see a better deal on service or just selling off my current phone and getting a new one whenever I feel like it instead of having to wait until a contract is over.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, over here we're not locked into a carrier by phone. I just get a better deal on the phone, and I ALWAYS buy new on electronics. Too risky to buy something that might have been dropped too many times.
Comment has been collapsed.
I've bought so many used phones maybe I'm just used to being able to spot telltale signs of significant damage :P
I am a bit of a smartphone junkie though as I think I've bought/sold through at least a dozen in the last 2-3 years :)
edit - then again I might just take better care of my phones than most people I suppose. I still have my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (do love Nexus devices) and the thing runs like a champ. I even managed to find a Marshmallow ROM for the thing and it's very useable :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Would you mind limiting yourself to fewer games at a given time? If you can then you can get the more powerful SE and simply swap out the games as you go. Sure, it may be a hassle but you'd get the better performance. Check the size of some of the games and see how many you can store, have a few of the bigger ones and a few small ones and you'd be set for a while and then swap them out
Comment has been collapsed.
Why was the 6 series skipped? I watched the Apple showcase for the new phone and tablet; from what I understand, the SE is similar to the 6/6s models in performance.

Yep same A7 cip and back camera etc as the 6s but then in the better looking 5 case ^^ xD

You need to have a case for that puppy to keep it safe. That will take care of the shiny edges you don't like too.

I Know you guys are probably mostly android users but im gonna ask it here anyways...
Im planning to buy a new phone very soon, and because my budget isnt that high, im not buying a iphone 6s or whatsoever...
Wanted to buy a iPhone 5s 32 GB or a iPhone SE 16 GB, I prefer the look from the SE over the 5s ( I dont like the shiny edges lol )
So what should I do? buy a cheaper 5s with a A7 chip and lower camera quality (I like making pics) or the new iPhone SE with the A9 chip.
I was first planning to buy the iphone se, but im struggling to decide when its about memory size since theres only a 16 and 64 gb option and im not gonna charge an extra 100 euros for the 64 gb.... I use it for social media, a couple of games like asphalt, heartstone gta SA... I keep my pictures on my cloud so thats not a problem.
Is this iPhone5s still OK for 1 more year/ 1.5 year? is it still ok to play games, or is the A9 a must for some games?
or should I be ok with a 16 gb iPhone SE with a couple of games for like more then 2 years, but not knowing if I would be too short of storage)
I currently own a 8gb iphone 4s with 1.5 gb free space (some pics small games and social media) but if I want to get some bigger games on my next phone i need more storage ofcourse but im not sure if 16gb is enough or if 32/64 gb is really that necassery in my case)
Dont get me wrong, im not a phone gamer, its just on moments when im bored and not near my laptop/computer.
And im not gonna buy an android device....
Edit : im not an Apple fanboy orosmething, my first device ever was from apple and since then I never wnated something else (tried android once but it was nothing for me) it feels stable and smooth and lasts pretty long in comparison with the android device I used
