Other than buying them as Delta already pointed out you could try to join some giveaway groups on steam so you have access to giveaways with lower entries count. However note that most, if not all, of the groups with limited members require a certain win:give ratio or regular giveaways of a specific worth+ done by you to avoid leechers.

Just take your time looking around the site, reading as much as you can, participate in the forums and you'll learn the ropes in no time.

It's funny you mention that. I started out with just one Magic game in my library cause a friend was begging me to play. Same friend introduced me to bundles and now here we are close to 1,000 games :P

I don't remember how I found out about it, but my first Steam games actually came from Humble Bundle (Humble Indie Bundle 3 specifically - December 2011). I already had a steam account since August 2011, but had done nothing with it. That bundle is why I started using steam in the first place. Shortly afterwards, I got Portal for free during a promotion. Picked up Back to the Future: The Game, Portal 2, & Terraria from Steam in January 2012. Five months later found GreenManGaming because of a special they had on the Legacy of Kain games. Small steam library grew slowly over 2012-2013.
Last year, I found SteamGifts and through this site found out about Groupees, Indie Royale, Indie Gala, Bundle Stars, etc. Over 2014, my library soared to huge numbers thanks largely to bundles. (Now I just need a time machine so I can play them all ...)

I wonder if peeps ever read the Steam FAQ? If so, they'd discover that every single "name" they ever decide to use for any amount of time (especially one's that seemed so cool at the time) would be with them forever!! Now that's zombie magic indeed :-D

If so many people make that thread, maybe it is because for most newcomers who are literate enough to have read the guidelines and FAQ, these are not enough.
