I used to buy games at launch all the time, but over the last couple years the time it takes pretty much ANY game to drop to bargain bin prices has become so ridiculous that I usually never even get to the game before then. Why pay full price, when I can just buy the game when I am ready to play it and get it for $5? Thanks to Steam my backlog is huge anyways.

I used to when the Xbox 360 first came out and I regretted it almost always. Even in the earlier years with Master System and SNES I neve paid full price

Yep, but not often any longer. Any localized Falcom game nearly always has a day 1 buy for me (and of a limited edition if one is available). But more often my release day purchases are of stuff for console or handheld rather than on Steam, and those don't get much in the way of a price drop and are more likely to become difficult to impossible to find if one waits too long with the games I tend to like.
But then all I have that is current right now is a 3DS and Vita and release prices for those are not bad at all. A new Vita or 3DS game is $39.99 rather than $59.99 for consoles.

I only buy games I know I want on launch. For example the (to be released) witcher 3 or GTA V.
If I'm interested a game but don't know for sure that I want it I will wait and see what it's like after launch and decide whether to buy it or not then.
If I decide a game is still interesting but not worth the money I'll wait until it get's super cheap. (Or enter any giveaways for it).

Lucky to live in Russia. Games are cheap enough =)

Last time was Starcraft 2. I waited for HOS and got it for $15. I'm strongly considering it for JOJO ASB because it's a limited PS3 release.

I only buy Blizzard games (because I have more fun, hours played and fun with them than the rest) at full price, the rest... discounts :)... oh, and I forgot, also bought Anno 2070 at full price, with it's expansion and DLC, when it first appeared (I didn't bought the complete edition, I bought them as soon as each item appeared)...

Well, every Blizz game I played I played with friends... I live in Romania, and I play with 5-6 friends from all over the country... thanks to skype, we have unlimited fun :D... mostly I play D3 and SC2, but also some times WoW, when he want to kill something other than Diablo universe :)

Depends on the game and the price, and I'm assuming you're talking about AAA games. For me $50 USD is my max for a new game, screw the $60 console price now being tacked on to PC releases. If it's a game I know I'll want that is $60 USD on release, I've always been able to find a pre-order discount and get it for < $50. I have such a huge backlog of games to play that I can wait for a game's price to come down. I'm trying to think of the most recent AAA games I've pre-ordered or bought on release, and I can only think of two; Borderlands 2 (25% off from GMG) and Skyrim for $42 (boxed). If you count DLC, I bought Civ V's Gods & Kings and Brave New Worlds expansion packs on release, but I also got them for 25-30% off from GMG. I've bought a few indie games on release but still didn't pay full price, like FTL which was 10% off at release.

No chance..I mean for AAA games I will prolly half an year till I make my mind do I want it or not. For new indies depends mostly on the price(below $20 can be insta buy ). And 1 more thing....new releases on GoG are quite an insta buy if I have time to remember some of the old games xD

I bought some games for full price like Max Payne 3, Bioshock Infinite and Payday 2. But I did it just because developers were giving away some their games (Max Payne 1-2, X-COM: Enemy Unknown) and other bonus features for pre-purchase. I wait for steam sales usually, cuz games are way more cheaper by that time.
And I'm 100% sure I will buy Witcher 3 for full price in future. This game will be awesome and CD-Project deserves it.

I have not brought a game at release for that ridiculous $100 ( I live in NZ ) price tag in quite some time. The last game i can remember paying 100 bucks for was World in Conflict which came out in 2007 and i almost regretted paying so much for it immediately.
So do you buy games on release or wait for their price to plummet?
