Only if you want to host games/websites/others. IMO

I prefer it for everything besides playing games honestly, faster, more secure, more customizable, less issues all together.
But I can understand some disliking it, well not so much anymore since there are so many easy flavors now, but of course some still will dislike it.

it's actually better for just about everything compared to windows. the only downside is that not many companies make games for it. however, that is changing.

So, you have never used it, I take it? Because it's faster, more secure, more customizable, cheaper, easier to manage software...

Updating stuff in Windows really is a chore, wish they would do it like Linux...would make me like Windows more.

That used to be the case a long time ago. Nowadays it depends on which Linux we're talking about. Ubuntu / Mint can perform the same tasks as Windows, except they're free, have free alternatives to premium / paid Windows software, use less resources and the list goes on.

Do some research before you post, fully convinced that photoshop can not be run. It can easily be run using WINE, just like most applications that are not designed for Linux. WINE can even run some games that are not yet supported by Steam. You obviously have no idea how far Linux has come, it's nowhere near a "typewriter", in fact, if you name more than 3 features (excluding games) that Windows can do, while Linux can't, I will be very surprised.

Unlike you, I did research. Care to tell me how program that professionals have to run on strong PCs with a lot of ram (8+ gb) to make use of fully is going to run on emulator? It's like suggesting to buy car without engine, then tying bike to front bumper and pulling it. It makes no sense whatsoever. I use both Win (7-8) and Linux, and if I didn't need it for one client I'd ditch that crap, Windows and Mac OS got 3 steps for each one Linux makes.

Don't muddle up your own words. You said "try to run" as if it's impossible to launch the application. Linux is more than capable of launching & using it. It will obviously be less efficient, but then again, if your work depends on using Photoshop, you won't be using an OS that discourages you doing that, use some common sense.
@Your second comment - As mentioned, you wouldn't get an unsuitable OS if you depend on Photoshop. Or you would use an alternative / find a more efficient way of emulating it. I did say excluding games, yet you included that and as with everything else, there are workarounds for the BluRay issue.

You know what, I am heavily into photography and other art and you are partially correct, but truth is 80% of the time I am browsing on my computer, writing up documents, email, etc...that other 20% I am playing a game or using Lightroom/Photoshop on Windows(I run 2 computers through one screen with a KVM switcher).
Here is the thing for all of the above I prefer to use Linux because of the reasons I mentioned above before the flame war started. This is an OPINION thread, why do you guys both need to fight like children? Seriously...You prefer windows and thats fine, but you must realize you are not everyone and the majority of people I know don't use high end programs like Photoshop and would actually be quite fine on Linux(some of them are). I am not sure what you are on exactly about the burning of discs since I never had an issue with that in Linux but currently and don't plan on using Blurays for a long time.

If you want play games, Win7. If you want run a web server, Linux or another Unix-like o.s. Depends on what you want do with it.

No, to repair Windows 7's that were broken by a Microsoft update here in Brazil, for example ;)

Why choose one? Multi-boot Ubuntu/MS-DOS 5.1/Win98 SE/Win 7 (with some hardware throttling for DOS/98) and have every stable environment you'll ever need.
"But what about OS X..."
EVERY STABLE ENVIRONMENT YOU'LL EVER NEED!
EDIT: Thanks for the correction. I must have been tired :P

Imhotep III Millenium Edition - even a stone can run it.
But really, DOS (any) was and still is pretty cool and useful. But the future goes to either linux-like systems or something totally new and not yet here.
