Nothing glamorous; I'll be cleaning and servicing locomotives. It beats the hell out of being unemployed since July, though. Plus, after a year I'll be eligible to move into a mechanic slot which is what I was hoping to get in the first place.

I've been unemployed since February last year. Stronk werk locating a job, and good luck moving up!

Hahaha, yea, "fun". For those of you that don't know, it might sound great to sit at home, send out resumes, play video games, and collect unemployment, but let me tell you that it isn't. Sure, it starts off fun, but when you send out tons of resumes and only get a handful of call backs it starts getting stressful. Then when you go on interviews and interview against 30 other candidates, it gets even more stressful. It is definitely an employer's market right now.

It's not free money, it's a state run insurance. While you are employed, some of the taxes you and your employer pay go into an unemployment insurance fund, and if you become unemployed and are eligible you can collect unemployment while looking for a new job. You have to have lost your job legitimately. You can quit your job because you don't like it or punch your boss in the face to get fired and expect to collect unemployment.

Is this your dream job? I used to be a bit of a railfan, though that was mostly because I trainhopped. Shhh, no judgements please:) I've known a few former hoppers who became railworkers though. Which yard, general freight stuff or Amtrak, etc?
Congratulations on geting this gig regardless, I've been unemployed and underemployed most of my life following college so I feel your pain:)

Dream job? Not in the slightest. I wanted a diesel mechanic position but at the time of my application they only had this position open. No biggie, I can always work my way up. I've got 12 years diesel experience under my belt, so it shouldn't be too hard. This company is all freight, so at least I won't have to deal with passenger cars of any sorts.

Congratulations! Hopefully they'll treat you well, some employers/colleagues can be real assholes to new people.

Slowly start stealing office supplies if you hate your job. Then you can go home to a office supply fort!

Just accepted a new job so I decided to give away a game. The GA is for Serious Sam Complete Pack. It was on sale and I think it'll help me get to my next CV, so everyone wins! I will add the winner through Steam and send the gift in a trade. Good luck!
