I was only not thanked twice, was not offended by it, its whatever. I thank everyone personally though.
Anyways, just because he has not played it doesn't mean he wont.

Most of my gifting happens within a narrow group of friends, as it probably is with most people.
But as i enter a lot of public givewaways i thought i should give away the games i don't need to the very same general public.

Winners are always like that. You get used to it.

Don't expect people to play a game they won straight away. Give them a few months to get to it.
That aside, not saying "Thank you" after winning something really is ungrateful. Trading or re-gifting something they won doesn't even merit commenting on, it's explicitly against the rules and warrants a ban.
As for my experiences, I've given away 10 games, 9 were activated*, all the winners thanked me and 5 of the 9 have already played the games they won.
*I only now noticed that one of my winners didn't activate his gift and reported him. An oversight on my part, I previously thought I had confirmed all 10 had activated their gifts.

Definitely one of the big reasons why i hesitate giving away anything. I've seen people who have won games like Skyrim, Batman AC and Fallout, and have not played the game once, in the 4 months since they won it. A total waste of a game, on someone who just enters to make their steam game list, longer.
I only enter giveaways for games i know i will play. Thankfully i won 1 game in the 7 months since i signed up. I won Killing Floor about a month ago, and have played it for 53 hours. Left a thank you message to the gifter on his profile.

I always thank people personally and sometimes write them a comment on their profile page and I try to play every single on of them when I have time, because I only enter games I want to play.
I too had some bad winners not thanking me and some even traded it away, but the worst are those that aren't even trying to play the games they won and just collect them...to me these are the worst ones after those trading them away.

Let's leave aside that you probably should not enter any giveaway if you still have a years worth of games to play beforehand.
Two of the fellows i encountered took the key and made a new giveaway with it, pushing their contributor level. They will never play it themselves, so they could have saved everyone some trouble by just letting someone else win the game.

After I won my first giveaway and read another thread somewhat similar to this one, I made up my mind to stop entering enter giveaway unless I am going to play the game.
This is a big problem. For some game there are 3-4k entries, its not possible that all want the game to play.
May be, lowing the bar like, 1 point for every 100 point, might give others an incentive.

I don't know how good is (sometimes) to look at in-game hours.I have some problems(actually two PCs) and i usually play in offline mode.....

I totally understand the lack of gratitude pissing you off. What i don't get is why the people who won your games need to play them asap. I have won a few games which i haven't managed to play yet, which doesn't mean i do not want to enjoy them in the (near) future.

The first winner did not touch the game in three months. The second took the key and gave it away in another giveaway. That's just not cool.

One thing that is important to keep in mind - Steam does not properly track "time played" for Offline Mode. I have to use it often due to frequent connection interruptions. And I noticed it shows "0 time played" for games I spent hours on. :)

Things are getting better. I'm happy to say i got my last potential winner banned from steamgifts and a new winner was rolled. He had to join a lot of giveaways to finally win something. And he sent a short note to thank me :)
I'd like to thank everyone for making this a nice and civil discussion, it was a pleasure!

My results were about identical. The last giveaway though I turned into a contest, if the winner beat the playtime of the previous winner I'd send them an extra random game, and it worked. He's been playing quite a bit and will have another game coming his way.

My story is a bit long. The short version is: In my giveaways three out of four winners are undeserving, how are yours?
The long version: I started by giving away "Pat & Mat". The winner did not take the gift i sent to him within seven days, so i made support select a new winner. The lucky second winner installed it but never played it. Thank's a lot, i could have done so much by myself.
Next was Shadowgrounds. There were a lot of them flying around. The winner clearly does not have any language in common with me, but at least he sent me the following message: "t". Thats about as good it ever got for me. He did not redeem the key, but gave it away later on. My latest giveaway made me find the "report user" feature, so i used it on him as well.
My latest giveaway turned up one truly deserving winner, he has almost as little luck as i have. I'm happy that he actually tried the game, though a short "thank you" would have been nice.
The second winner (i gave away two keys) is the worst i've met so far: He won Shadowgrounds in four giveaways and gave it away twice later on, two (or five) clear violations of the rules. Now i've reported him and asked support to give me a more deserving winner.
Are you experiencing the same thing or are there actually friendly people out there that make you feel your gift went to the right place?
