Still learning all the rules written and unwritten on SG
So if you are willing to help me by answering these questions I would appreciate it:)

  1. On one of my GA the winner already had the same game in his/her inventory and already played or idled it. I didnt say anything about it. But from reading in the old topics I should have asked for a reroll, shouldnt I?
  2. Also on one of GA I wrote in the description that it was a Humble giftlink and that I would sent it through steam chat. The winner wasnt happy about me sending it through the chat. (eventually he/she accepted it, but asked me not to do this the next time) My question: does the winner or the creator decide how the GA is delivered?

thanks for answering (I hope)

You don't get in trouble for gifting.

If the winner doesn't accept it, reroll. If you don't like the winner, reroll. If the winner is a dick, reroll. It all comes up to you, since you're the creator of the GA.

You can reroll if they don't want it, but you cannot reroll for any other reason you have stated

I know, I just consider it the same as a blacklist. One can blacklist a person before he wins one of his GAs.

The Blacklist will prevent entry to future giveaways but would not stop a currently enterred person from winning nor should it be legitimate grounds for a re-roll.

You can't re-roll for those reasons. O.o

It's pretty much the same as, I don't like you. I'll blacklist you.

You know support won't approve those re-rolls, right? :X

Well, it's a matter of debate. I beleive they should.

"This user has a big black square as avatar. This is clearly rampant racism, so I want a reroll, thanks."
There is enough drama for the stupidest things already, imagine what would support have to deal with if users could use the "bitching bitching I don't like him" reasoning.

Err, no it isn't now is it. It's a fact that they won't approve those rerolls. Don't go making any support tickets for that and waste their time.

It's not up for debate, we wouldn't reroll just because you don't like the winner

Of course you can't do it, but what if you know the winner is a potential scammer.. broke certain rules but never got punished? But unfortunately you "forgot" to blacklsit him whatsoever. I beleive it should be possible to reroll, since first of all, the giveaway was made by you.

broke certain rules but never got punished?

Then you could get a reroll, if an user gets suspended they're not entitled to any pending win.

first of all, the giveaway was made by you.

Yes, but if you choose to make it here, there are some terms that come with it and that you have to agree with, such as the winner being random. It's not random if we let users cherry-pick their winner. The consequence of the randomness is that you may or may not like the winner, but they are still the winner.

I understand the "I don't like the winner" can't be done at all. I just hope that you guys actually modify the Guidlines a little more with extra precision regarding roughly everything including this matter. I really find it awkward for such big community to have a very little Guidelines. For me honestly, I never check the winner, I just send the key straight away without hesitating because it was my intention at first to gift it to whomever gets selected by the server, it's just there are some people who would like to be "picky" about their winners.

P.S: I know there are blacklists and whitelists for this matter.

No, it's not. You must provide valid reason to support. "I don't like him" is not one.

  1. yes, you should have. you can also check sgtools.info to see if the winner has broken any rules
  2. you decide. If the winner doesn't want to get it through chat, then ask the winner to agree to a reroll

you can politely ask the person for a reroll and hope that it's an honest mistake.
If not, take screen shots (proof) and report the person for rules violations.

  1. Yes.
  2. Not sure, but you can deliver a HB gift link through SG as well. I'm not sure why someone would be opposed to Steam chat delivery.

Maybe they are uncomfortable with clicking links through the chat. like those fake trade links from level 0 accounts But sending with email doesn't make a difference i guess. :/

Maybe. Just seems weird to me because it should be obvious why the person is adding them and what the link is LOL. I'm wondering if they were more bothered about being added or the link.

Some people prefer privacy.
There is a user who has me blacklisted, blocked on steam, and who responds to my emails each time they win by asking me to re-roll because they have a private profile and I ask for access to see their games list.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah I understand the privacy bit ... but why enter giveaways for people you know are going to add you? In the case you've mentioned, it just seems particularly ridiculous (and also makes me wonder if the person isn't using autojoin since they don't avoid your giveaways ...)

Like the OP said, it was in the GA description that she would add the winner. :X

In my case, the user probably doesn't have the skill or money to use a script that blocks my giveaways specifically. They could also be hiding bad things.

I usually include a note in my descriptions if I intend to add users, but I try to regularly exercise due diligence and check for duplicate wins, non-activated wins, and prior ownership before sending a gift to a winner. To do that, I have to be able to see their games list.

Really, it's their call. I'll happily let another win if they choose to hide in the dark.

The optimistic answer: they are afraid that it is a scam link.
The pessimistic answer: they know you'll check if they redeemed it as they cannot hide their profile from a friend without looking suspicious, so they cannot just straight-out steal the key to sell it.

Yeah, I've been known to be overly optimistic at times ...

This time I think with a reason. Despite what these forum may make it look like, scammers are rare. Chances are, just a cautious user, even if they were an asshole.

w/r/t your second question; I always add my winners and give them the gift links or keys during chat. That's something I state in my GA descriptions right away... and luckily I haven't had problems since.

Honestly I thought the whole time I did something wrong, cause the winner lets say wasnt very friendly
But then I saw one of your GA (with your statement)and thats when I thought maybe I didnt do anything wrong:)

so the winner was an asshole.
Unfortunately, that's not against the rules. But, it is a damn good reason to blacklist

You didn't do anything wrong! It's your GA, where you give someone a game for free.
I write that in my GA descriptions for two reasons 1) so the winner won't just ignore or block my friend invite, and 2) so I can point to them knowing what to expect, should they grumble about the way I handle this.

Also this gives me time to check out my winners before contacting them / sending out the key or gift link.

For the second question, maybe the person is like me and generally prefer not to add people on steam unnecessarily. Especially as SG allows entering Humble Bundle gift links as keys. That said, as the saying goes, winners of giveaways can't be choosers.

ýes it could be it, after that incident I have put in the keys for all my games except the Steamgifts ofc

so what? add, accept, remove. If someone is gracious enough to give you a gift, you should be gracious enough to accept it in whatever form they want to give it. And, it's only good manners to indulge them in a quick chat, if they want.

Feel free to remove them afterwards.

Well yeah, that's what I would do. I mean, in this case it just sounds like the winner was a bit of a jackass. I'm just trying to provide a reason why the person might care in the first place (even if it's minor), not to excuse the actual behavior.

Permalink

there's never an excuse to be an asshole.
as I said, takes just a few seconds to be gracious. Same goes for thanking the GA creator after a win. I even try to write some personal note about why I want the game too

  1. In library or owns part of pack = reroll; Doesn't accept after 1 week = reroll; Non activated wins = reroll (if they weren't already suspended)

@1. What you meant is game was in person library ;) In this case you always should request a reroll. You basically got scammed of this game, sorry :< On the other hand - if game is in inventory as a gift you should gift it. Remember - you cannot know what purpose of this gift is. A lot of users (including me ;P) create GAs for the games they want. I have gifts in myinventory for the games I would like to own myself but I as many other contributors prioritize gifting over my own library. The fact that someone is Giving Away or is going to Give Away XYZ in the future does not mean he don't want to win XYZ as well ;)

@2 - Not your problem. If the winner has a problem with you adding him/her and accepting gift this way - he may choose not to and let you reroll. It's your gift, it's you who paid money for it, it's you who decide how and when it's gonna be delivered (as long as it fits the site's rules). Even more - if you wish to deliver key via chat and winner refuses it may be base for reroll request (winner refuse gift / cannot contact winner)

In the first case the person already had the game installed and played it for more then 2 hours
I wasnt sure what to do so I did nothing....but it is now already one day ago so he/she probably already traded my key

  1. Contact the person and ask if they have activated the key or traded it. Tell them you are asking for a re-roll. The new winner should activate the game. If it doesn't activate have the GA deleted. Then you can blacklist the first winner.
  2. If they don't want to be chatted with they shouldn't enter. Just blacklist them so you don't have the hassle with them again in future.

Edit: Did the first winner confirm receiving it?
