There are two options to qualify:

If you won games on this site

  • You have to be Level 0. The reason I'm limiting this to Level 0 is that I want to reward those who want to contribute, but can't do it in the form of GAs. Writing reviews is another great way to contribute.
  • You need to provide a link to a review you wrote on Steam for a game that you won on this site. The review doesn't need to be long, but one-liner reviews don't count. It should include at least 50 words, mention at least one good and one not-so-good point about the game. If it's all-positive it's fine too, but it needs to be a little bit more detailed. Also, reviews for Bad Rats don't count, unless you're one of the few who wrote a real review of the game and not a lame joke disguised as a review.
  • The review date needs to be earlier than today (no later than Sept 3, 2016).
  • Clean profile (no unactivated wins etc)
  • If you won more than 30 games, you need to be able to link to more than one review of a won game. How many exactly, I haven't decided.

If you haven't won games yet

  • You have to be Level 0.
  • You need to provide a link to a review you wrote on Steam, that you posted earlier than today, and whose "Last edited" date is no later than Sept 3, 2016.
  • The review needs to include at least 50 words, mention at least one good and one not-so-good point about the game
  • Clean profile (no bans, no bad trade feedback etc)

For now this "offer" is limited to 20 slots on my whitelist altogether (I'm optimistic, I know).

My current whitelist GA is Shadow Warrior (2013). More to come :-)

If you came for non-whitelist GAs, you can find them in my other current threads - 5 here, 15 here, and 27 more here. If you can't find the GA links, check out the poll in the last link for a "solution".

Is this offer fair?

View Results
Yes, Level 0 users deserve some love
No, this should not be limited to Level 0 users
No, people should be able to write reviews after the cutoff date
No, this idea is stupid/unfair/evil because...
I wrote a review, I swear! but Dan Quayle ate it!

Bump :)

Technically, you can't, because you haven't won anything here yet. But I like the reviews that you wrote on Steam, so welcome to my whitelist as a wildcard invite :-)

Note to others, I don't plan to do this often, so please stick to the rules above...

I won't vote cause I don't really... see an option that I like too much :^)

I think your offer is 'fair' simply because it's really your right to do whatever you want with the games that you give away, and if it's sharing some love to the level 0s, why not?:)

I never really do level 0 GAs (like my current train is level 1+), just because personally, I find (and may be wrong) that it shouldn't be too hard to find one key or one game to give away, if you actually try ~ and after doing at least 1 giveaway, it helps you figure out how the system works.

But just like I wouldn't expect someone to come to my GAs and tell me I'm wrong to exclude certain levels, I would never go into someone's thread to tell them they're wrong to do something for those guys.

So I rambled on too much (as per usual >smirks<), good luck at spreading the love ^_^

Some Level 0 users simply cannot level up. For example, kids who only have games in their library that were given to them as gifts. And before you suggest that they sell cards to buy some cheap games as gifts (which btw is something I wrote a guide about), keep in mind that some of them cannot sell cards because they don't have access to the Steam market (those who haven't spent $5 or more on Steam).

Level 1 doesn't really mean that someone is into giving. Some just contribute a single 1P DLC and get to Level 1 with one sole purpose - gain access to many more giveaways, such as yours, with no plan to give more. In this regard I don't really see the difference between the two levels and prefer to target all users, in all levels. This is why almost all of my giveaways in the last few months have been Level 0. With that said, giving to rule breakers isn't something I'm too fond of and this is where SGTools comes in handy. With the two SGTools-protected Level 0 GAs here I know I'm guaranteed to not get a rule-breaker as a winner, but with the other three giveaways (same page, same game - for L3+, L5+ and L7+) I can just hope for the best.

I think I officially out-rambled you ;-)

It's okay because it made a lot of sense ^_^.

You're right that level 1 and level 0 is not much of a difference. In all honesty, I think I put level 1 as a sort of selfish reason, mainly because I am a lazybunny and don't want any trouble with someone that may not have used steamgifts before.

sgtools seems like a great way to fix that 'problem', though, so yep, you're right:)

I'd just have to get used to using it a little more ~

Well, you need much more than 5$ worth of games to use SG, so I am not sure about that.

Well, my first impression is that it's unfair in a way that only level 0's who have already won something can be whitelisted, while excluding those who have not won anything yet. If you want to encourage people to write reviews, is it necessary that they need to win something here first?

I think Yirg made it to prove that even people who don't contribute with gibs can contribute somehow to the community :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, but it's a strange combination. They won't be able to contribute unless they win something first.

The reason I added the cutoff date is that I want reviews to be genuine, not ones that are added after the fact just to get into my whitelist. If you have any ideas how to prevent this, I'm all ears.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nah, the cutoff date was not my point. It was about that it needs to be about a game they won. So if there's a level 0 who wrote the best reviews in the world but haven't won anything, they would not be able to apply here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok, fair enough. I can add this as an alternative track (in fact, unofficially I already have a few hours ago when I whitelisted Kusariyaro above), but I need to be careful that things don't get out of hand. After all, there are hundreds of thousands of Level 0 users on this site, but only a limited number of slots.

In addition, I would need to somehow define a higher benchmarks for review quality which should be above the requirements for those who won games here (that is, not a one-liner reviews).

I suppose I'm just too much of a perfectionist. Of course this works for a limited offer for whitelist spots, but I keep thinking that there must be a better way to pick from those level 0 users. Ah well, good luck improving it if you can think of something.

Way better now, thanks for adding that. Now you'll probably need to slightly edit the topic so it won't discourage people who can use the alternative.

I can't come up with a title that I like that fits within the allowed length. The closest was "Level 0 and write reviews on Steam (esp of games won here)? You may have a spot on my whitelist", but I'm not too happy with it. I think I'll just leave it as-is for now...

I lurked here long before I created my first GA, but I don't know how representative that is of Level 0 users.

It could be that the lack of participation so far is related to one of the other requirements (e.g. having to link to a review on Steam), more than for lack of Level 0 users seeing this thread.

nice to see somebody actually still cares for the level 0s. we all were once...
i remember how badly i wanted to be at least level 1 but had no method to achieve that.... and how the majority thinks level0s are leechers or bots...
I think level 0s are essential to this site. if there are no level0s... who can we give our GAs to? :c

This is an awesome idea. I originally joined this site to give away a game I would never play after I got it from a humble bundle that was gifted to me a while ago. This thread kinda makes me wish I was still level zero haha. On a different note, I apparently added you to my WL a while back...it must've been for one of your forum/hidden giveaways. This thread/offer to level 0's just solidifies the fact that you're an awesome guy so...yeah, keep doing what you're doing and hopefully I'll find an alternate path to your blue heart someday!

Hey, Yirg!
Wild idea appeared in mhy mind, that's an alternative to " game wishlisted since xx.xx.xx" condition,
"already entered more than X giveways for this game" condition!
I ain't sure if you used it before and I'm not that sane, just felt like messaging it =p
Wow, it's also a bump.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think I could check how many entries someone has for a given game. Isn't this data only visible to them?

Also, even if I could, I think it would favor those who use automated scripts and enter giveaways 24x7. Not sure they should be encouraged ;-)

Ok, no worries. And I do normally accept invites from people who are on my whitelist :-)

I'm going to add more keys today to the multi-List thread. I may also add an option related to the number of times they entered GAs for a specific game, but I need to be able verify it somehow. Maybe have people upload a save of the HTML file instead of an image, so that I can sample a few of the links to see they're valid. I need to come up with some gates for minimum number of entries for a game and maximum number of entries in all giveaways. I mean, if someone entered giveaways for a certain game 10 times out of 50,000 entries, it's not much...
