Please don't shoot the messenger. But I did find it to be honest and interesting as a personal perspective.

I'm a little too tired at the moment to read something so long, so I'll just bookmark it for tomorrow.

I found it pretentious and overlooking an industry stronger than Hollywood as subculture.

But, different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Did you read to the end? I agree at the onset. In the end, it was more about his father than anything, and an interesting spin on how our perspectives change as we age.

I liked his honesty with himself.

Closed the tab as soon as I read the words "videogame junkie".

Wow. You must really have trouble with ideological confrontation/new things/differing perspectives.

You have to get through the whole thing to really understand it. Even then, you might not agree with it, but it's a well-done piece that's thought-worthy, IMO.

No, it's not that. I welcome confrontation. Knowledge is born from it. It's great stuff.

It's just that - I'm a writer. I am careful about the words I use. I try to be aware of their effect on people. So when I see someone use sensationalist buzzwords like "videogame junkie", it sets of a certain light. It usually leads to "videogames killed my son" and other assorted bollocks. If something valuable is hidden behind those ugly, flame-inducing words, I'm willing to take the risk of not seeing it. More often than not, it isn't.

Yeah. You should read it anyway.

It's a personal perspective from someone that isn't very well attuned to the video game world.

It's well written, and you'd probably also appreciate it as a writer. My wife is the same. I understand where you're coming from, but I think it's not worth judging a story by its cover. ;)

This was quite a deep story. I liked it. The last three sentences in particular.

Yes. Exactly. The story made me annoyed at him, then gave me a moment of self-awareness and self-questioning (not always a bad thing, especially since I have kids myself).

Then I really felt for him for many reasons.

And then I saw that he came to understand how all of us might deal with our own lives in our own ways.

And I'm doing a terrible job explaining, but that's what I got out of it, shorthand.

And yeah. Great closer. :)

Well, this is going to be polarizing. Over/under on how many actually read the entire thing?

Too many words for some, yes? ;)
