At every single featured giveaway (over 50 copies). Just to show you the amount of people who enter those without the intention of playing it: I have a trilogy now running, where the first game is not featured, the other two is. The entries so far are 700, 9700, 10300. Literally almost 95% entering only because it is at the top.

Why is a game removed from the list of games you can giveaway if 10,000 copies are given out on any other website, but if a developer releases 10,000 copies on SG, then it's still on the list and is able to be given away still?
Sounds like double standards to me.

Totally agree with you on this one. I hope SG support takes a rational decision on this issue.

No it's not, because if you win it here you have to activate it on your own account.

You're still distributing a lot of copies for free. And regifters.. They're everywhere - even when it's clearly against the rules.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah and then when they are caught they get a suspension and their regifted giveaways are deleted. So we have some control over it.
In the end only legit giveaways will remain, and users that made a giveaway with a key they got for free will see their giveaway deleted (and thus their CV gone). We can't achieve that kind of control with external promotions.

If they distribute it on say, IGN, by giving away tons of copies, it's flagged as a free game and will then be unable to be given away on SG. If, however, they choose to use SG instead of IGN to distribute the same amount of copies (10,000+), then it's not flagged as a free game..

ign monthly subscription is paid, those games don't count as free.
gleam.io, indiegala, dht giveaways are very different since they are free.
a developer owns those keys, he doesn't leech them from someone else and then give them away here to boost cv.
also, as tempy pointed out:

similarly, games given free on steam [which can only be self-activated] aren't counted as free- while games you can easily farm multiple copies of for free and put up for cv are.
Even ignoring that regifters are punished, the odds of them winning a ton of the same game at once is minimal, so the system as is already weeds out the worst offenders.

But that happened (getting keys from devs to boost CV here) and I might be wrong but they kept the CV.

Er. If it wasn't activated to their account, then yes, they'd get suspended for it.
The suspensions tend to be pretty short, however, so perhaps you missed it :X
Well, you can always check the status of their account using steamtools, if you remember their name [or pull it from your support ticket], and rereport them if necessary.
Not much to do if someone leeches from another site to regift on sg, however :/

I didn't enter it on purpose, my autojoiner entered it (and I only have my autojoiner join stuff on my wishlist page, but those things come up on every damn page). So sorry I won a copy that you would have wanted. I didn't regift it and I don't plan to, but I did win the game without really wanting it. That's the bitch about those sponsored GAs, if they didn't appear on my wishlist page despite not even being on my wishlist, I wouldn't enter them.

I'm not going to apologize for an auto-joiner that joins giveaways on my wishlist, but I know not to trade or regift.
In turn, if the site wants to force these sponsored gives onto every page, I'm not really going to feel extra bad about winning one I didn't really want. I don't end up enjoying every game I enter GAs for on purpose, and those just end up rotting away in my inventory as well. If I could give them to people, I would, but that's not the way of gaming nowadays.

"I'm not going to apologize for an auto-joiner"
I think you actually should. Sometimes creater might have some wish or important information but you won't even see it. And in case of wishlisted games I think you actually should care about what people who might (if RNG will be on your side) give you a game that you really want. I think this is disrespectful.

You're wasting your time.
This is someone so selfish and entitled that they'd rather join a game they don't want, than hide it if it's bothering them, and then brags about spitting at the generosity of others and taking things they don't want.
Don't get me wrong- I could respect a difference of opinion on using bots if the person was respectful about it, but this is just distasteful.

I have done that kind of thing of thing before, if you have the game activated on your account then it isn't a problem. The rules are you need to activate all won games on your account - if you are giving away games that you have won without having them activated on your account then that is when folks tend to take offense...

You can use http://www.sgtools.info/activation to check whether the GA creator has activated the game in his library. If he didn't it's very likely that the copy he's giving away is the one he won before.

I was wondering that as well. It would naturally be a bad idea because you might win a game, play it, and then decide to give another copy away because you want to share the pleasure.
I'm curious if it has any effect if you do it the other way around though. What if you give away a game you haven't got on steam yourself, and then down the line decide you want to play it, so enter some giveaways and win one? Does the steamgifts system read that as suspicious behaviour?
Comment has been collapsed.
the site doesnt have a system in place to read anything like that. it can check for what games you have on your account and prevent you from entering those (which works for most games but not all). it also records games youve won and records games youve given. users keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour.
technically, its possible you could win a game you bought somewhere if you havent syncd your account for a few days. the only one who would be able to tell is the person running the giveaway if they checked your account before sending you the game.
which, of course, would be exceptionally shitty behaviour to not ask the giver for a reroll.

that's why apollo4x is raining everywhere! so many regifter to suspend. it will be a lot of fun to steamgifts staff. :T

I blacklisted 10 and reported 9 for an hour, then I synched my account to go to bed. I cannot understand them. :(

Hey OP. Checked your profile and it seems you can apply here. I keep people on the list as long they haven't won anything.

After reading your post, I searched in the steamtrade. WTH! @.@
Thank you for the good laugh and information.

I've closed my thread "Mea Culpa" not Escaping responsibility but to avoid useless trash talk starting (I want to point out most of people participated constructively).
I'm gonna see only with devs if i can buy the game again to reroll the giveway.
Sorry to all harmed.
If I ended up banished, i wish you all the best and good luck for the giveaways !

Yeah, but if they don't have the game in their collection, win, and give the game away, they can enter and "win" the same game again. If it's a key they just pass along the same key, and if not, they trade or gift the game/DLC pack again.

well you can ....
Report them after checking it
With http://www.sgtools.info/nonactivated/[PutSGNameHere]

Yeah, I've blacklisted around 60 people so far. I might have to start using SGTools but I'm new here and am still learning my way around everything and getting a feel for the site.

I wanted so badly to win my first giveaway, the 10,000 copies of Apollo4X. I figure hey, I have almost a 50% chance of winning. NOPE. Then I look on here and dozens of people are regifting it!
Seriously, if you don't want the game or you aren't going to put it on YOUR account, DON'T ENTER. Lots of people actually want to play the games. :(
