They're actually named after the bullet ant, which is reputed to have the most painful sting of all insects. A sting so painful it is compared with being shot...by people who have done both.
Why name a train after the bullet ant? Because when it hits something, it hurts.

The bullet trains do not touch the rails, when moving. They do that by using magnets.
