Not dead, but not far from it. There are 3 public servers, but there are people in there, definitely enough to enjoy the game. I see that there are quite a few people who still want this game, and I still have a 2 pack of it, might give it away...

They were handing copies of the ship left and right, but not a lot of people actually played it. They tried to make a sequel, but the kickstarter failed. It's a great multiplayer game, shame no one actually seems to run servers. If you get a chance, definitely play it, I really enjoy it.

This is why I thought I'd like it -- "paranoia simulator", lol

Single Player: lackluster, but I wouldn't call it bad by any means. The controls are Source-ish (hurr), and the guns aren't making the impression that you did any damage with them, sans the melee ones. It has a fun and very short SP campaign, and I suggest playing it through to get into multiplayer.
Multiplayer: is where the game really shines. Too bad it doesn't have a lot of players online, which is the only bad thing about it. Still not as bad as the "sequel", Bloody Good Time, though. Definitely try it, but if you don't play SP first, you'll be kind of lost. Don't finish SP, just play it for a couple of missions.

People were "Anti-The Ship" because it was being given away like crazy to the point of giveaway spams. This was when the devs were just handing the game out for free (there was some kind of a cause behind it but I forget). Add the fact that one legit copy spawns 2 giftable copies in your inventory and you get a massive flood. Unfortunately I already gave away both of my spawns in the forums else I'd offer you one.

The SP is some fun,not that great. Its basically a tutorial for MP,except you learn nothing that really helps you in MP.
Did you play "Bloody Good Time"? It's kinda similiar, although I prefer Bloody Good Time. Both are dead anyways (bots arent fun).

Oh, no! I didn't start this so that someone would gift it to me. I was just curious about why there was so much hate around the game.
But thank you so much! <3

So, I've recently been on a kick trying to win The Ship. I'd never really given this game much thought but after watching a couple of the videos, I've decided that I'd really like to try it.
I know at one point, this game got a LOT of flack from the SG community. This was a while ago, and I can't really remember why people were so Anti-The Ship.
Have you played this game? Did you like it? Why or what not?
Thanks!
