most of those are being sold previously by bundles or at 75% off

Since 2017 Paradox only discounts DLC 50% anymore, greed and all.
2016 it was 66%.
75% was 2015 and earlier.

I mean.. as you just noted, it was set up to be a typical F2P microtransaction game from the start. ;P

I run this game via SmartSteamEmu143 and have all DLC Free ;)

CK2 is fairly old at this point. 2012, off the top of my mind?

The name of the game has been DLC for a long while.

Will it still drop cards?

That is, if someone who doesn't have it already activates it F2P, will that person get card drops?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, you don't get card drops from F2P games. You now have to activate an old key to get them.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I know that's the general policy, but I seem to recall there have been rare exceptions. I guess I was hoping someone could confirm by trying it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Those rare exceptions have a different billing type:

No Cost: https://steamdb.info/sub/33694/
Free on Demand: https://steamdb.info/sub/405436/

If the game is "no cost" and has cards then you get drops.

Cool. Thanks a lot for the informative answer; I appreciate how you did that.

I have a key from Humble bundle, do you want it? Dunno if it's gonna drop you cards but it does not hurt to try.

Edit: Could yall stop adding me to beg for games? I have already gifted crusader kings!

Sorry for jumping in, but I'd love the key if the OP doesn't want it:)

activated a CK2 hb bundle steam key (retail in activations) - didn't show it'll drop cards ...
they might've "accidentally" disabled them even for the old retail keys as well

What info do you get here: https://steamcommunity.com/my/gamecards/203770/

When you click on "How do I earn card drops?"

Permalink

Just realized i idled those previously when CK2 was free, it dropped cards but the game wasn't added then.
Info there says i'm eligible for booster packs. Guess it'll be fine then, thanks for the link - made instantly noticeable.

It's specifically set up like any other perma-free app, if it was only for the con duration they'd have just set up a free week(end).

It was a better form of free (free to claim and own) 2018, now it's just free to play but not own.

You could still try launching it, though. Not like your game content got worse that way.

I've had this for ages, think I'd really like it if I could sit down and put the 16 hours into learning it thoroughly enough to enjoy its intricacies.
I am positive when I do, it'll be my top game. I will definitely get around to it, as well as clear my entire backlog, go to the gym regularly, and get beyond beginner courses in coding.

16 hours? I'm afraid you can't learn CK2 in 16 hours. Make that 16 hundred hours and you'll be closer to the mark. I'm not even joking; you're generally considered new to the game until you've put at least several hundred or even a couple thousand hours into it. Yes, it's that complex.

But if you're just trying to have fun while doing everything wrong, you can get the hang of how to press buttons in a couple hours just fine. :)

Comment has been collapsed.

How were your three hours ish in Europa Universalis 3 and Hearts of Iron 3, or was that just carding?

Maybe something like https://store.steampowered.com/app/42810/For_The_Glory_A_Europa_Universalis_Game/ would be an easier start. (Though I'm posting 2h before the sale ends..)

Appreciate the effort but I don't even have time to learn Civ V properly and am much more likely to just go back to Civ IV.
You get to a point with work, commute, dinner, kid, chores, kid, that there's just not enough time to start digging into the complexities of medieval politics sims at 11pm. I used to think I had no time for anything but I had no idea.

But I will do it. This month, I will make time, take a good plunge, and press buttons until it blows up in my face.

There are also easier, simpler, or more rewarding games out there. Find what feels like time well spent, and focus on that. Perhaps AAA SP story games that can be completed in 5-15 hours are a start, rather than infinite-time grind games like World of Warcraft or Destiny 2.

I got it on humble bundle a month or so ago and tried it for a few hours, did my head in. Spent another 5 or so hours watching youtube videos, decided not the game for me lol.

This is good so more ppl can enjoy this game, this is by far my all time favorite paradox game that I own. I pretty much own all the DLC, but I didnt pay near like 100+ for it, maybe like 30-40 or so? after getting it on sale.

I only have Tyranny on my account page, which is weird since I also own CK2, Cities: Skylines and Surviving Mars on Steam. Unlinked my Steam account and attached it again, same thing.

Edit: Made a brand new account, signed up for the newsletter, still no DLC code on the account page. Sent a tweet to the CK2 twitter in hopes of figuring out what the issue is, will share if they reply :)

I made a brand new account too and had nothing under games. Then when I linked my steam accont after over 1 hour I got tyranny. Still waiting for the free dlc. Even tried installing crusader kings 2 and logged into the game but nothing.

Hopefully it just takes some time for it to sync. I saw on reddit it took about an hour for some. So Im kind of worried when I have waited for almost 2 :)

Make sure you haven't gone to that Paradox site with an old login.

I noticed i did some free giveaways on Paradox ages a go (and forgot) so when i clicked from the crusaders page it went to my old login and not the new one that i had just made on crusaders site.

I could have used my old email if i had realised ,oh well.

For me it never updated, but I had to make / log in to four fake accounts anyway to get the other free DLC (Crusader Kings II: Pagan Fury - Warrior Queen Music DLC) via referrals... So I got a few Old Gods on the way to that.

Same for me on new account. When i go to page https://accounts.paradoxplaza.com/settings , it shows "Unable to get newsletter status." but i am subscribed to the Paradox Newsletter. Over one hour and no dlc yet.
