Oh no! Sorry to hear about your laptop. :( I have a monitor failing on me right now - the left side of the screen has scan lines, is tinted blue, and developed serious image retention - but at least it's usable.

So, my fan fell against my laptop screen and it cracked. That's why I wasn't here for my cakeday. I ordered a new screen and everything is fine again.
