Hi all,

I try to learn more and more about steamgifts. Today I try with my first little sgtool-protected train [lvl2, ticket at the end]

But this is not my main issue. In the last days I saw a lot of giveaways created by darla13 and they often had historical events in the descriptions. We talked a bit about history and thought: Maybe history could be a topic for a new group. What do you think about this idea?

If you want to bump this thread please do it with a historical Event with its date between now an 29/4. You could post links, your own opinion about an event, gifs, Pictures and so on. All is welcome.

I will start with an event as an example: From 26/4 till 29/4/1994 the first general elections in South Africa were held. This marks the end of the Apartheid. The 4/27 is now a public holiday: the Freedom Day

Did you guys know that Hitler is actually Austrian?
Also did you guys knew that hes person behind the Autobahns?

I didnt knew that until recently, thanks to a german guy I met trying to grab a specific achievement on a game. LOL

Note that I didnt knew that because I do live on Brazil and probally everyone from europe knows that xD
As far I do remember, none of history teachers mentioned it on school when I was on high school.

here's the links.

That's a common mistake but Hitler isn't responsible for the Autobahns.
Did you even read the link you posted where it was shown to be a myth? :/

That applies only to part of the highways with modern building standards, such as requiring 3+1 lanes and such. The highways of older days were quite different and mostly built for tanks with WWII having been quite the start of mechanized warfare at which Wehrmacht had initially quite an advantage (and such also an issue which in its existence reached back to days before Hitler and co. came to screw up things - e.g. Battle of Königgrätz (1866) in which the Prussian kingdom defeated the Austrian Empire, that was partially thanks to superior rifles on the side of Prussia).

Btw, most of the leadership of NSDAP, the nazi party, was from near the Alps and Rhine. Yet Prussia was forbidden after the war, with expulsion of also e.g. my ancestors from their homes while former SS officers were after the war employed even by CIA, such as e.g. Klaus Barbie who is also called 'butcher of Lyon' - quite absurdities about it all.

There are so many myths about this person, but this was the purpose of their propaganda also. So I can say that this mythology still works - as we see.

Yeah, quite a characteristic of the nazi days already since 1933 when nazis had quite some power over media. Part of that was also e.g. that the masses were told some definition of nation, which wasn't really correct, and even these days it is often considered so despite it in the 19th century having been quite clear that German nation and Prussian nation are two different things. Similar to e.g. French and Senegalese, with Senegal having French as official language due to historical events, in which Senegal was sort of part of France, but that does not make Senegalese exactly French especially if they themselves do not want to be French. And Germans can't really show that all or even most of Prussians wanted to be nationally German as there is no such referendum etc. decision except for Hitler simply having decided so, similarly to how when he renamed Old-Prussian geographical names such not really having had a democratic mandate for such - and just because e.g. Belgium or Poland decided to join the EU as member-states, similarly to how Prussia became a member-state in the German Empire, such itself surely not saying as if Poles decided to abolish Polish nation for sake of becoming part of some alleged EU-nation and nothing else.

On 26 April 1803 a meteorite shower occurred and thousands of fragments from a meteor fell onto the town of L'Aigle in France.

Prior to this event the very existence of meteorites considered highly questionable and people claiming to have seen rocks fall from the sky were thought to be liars, but the L'Aigle meteor shower convinced scientists that meteorites are real after all.

In 2003, the ice caps on Venus were set to be melted, overflowing the land with water, and eventually, oxygen. By the year 2018, Venus became a habitable planet, second in the universe. It was said that two governments, Ishtar and Aphrodia, constantly battled for the supremacy of the land. In 2089, the new Istar army raised a ruckus in Io City, and history repeats...

The rebel biker group, Hound, confronted the army of Istar. They jumped into action, planning to free Io City from Ishtar's constant harassment.

From Wikipedia, so it must be history:

2011/4/28: Ed Balls Day

On 28 April 2011, Balls, urged by an assistant to search Twitter for a recent article about him, accidentally entered his intended search term in the wrong box and sent a tweet reading only "Ed Balls". The tweet was retweeted by thousands; Balls was unaware that it was possible to delete tweets. The tweet has never been deleted since. The incident is now celebrated as "Ed Balls Day" every 28 April, with followers retweeting his original message and commemorating the occasion in other ways. When invited to send something to be auctioned to raise funds for the party in 2015, Balls submitted a framed, signed printout of the tweet. To celebrate "Ed Balls Day" in 2016, Balls baked a cake featuring the tweet.

P.S.: If you feel this derails the spirit of the thread, let me know, and I will replace it with something which is actually historically significant.

King's Day, The Netherlands.
Modern History, actually:
King Willem-Alexander has been coronated 30 april 2013, and his birthdate is 27 april 1967, so we celebrate that with a national holiday.
We used to have Queen's Day for many years, as King Willem-Alexander is the first king since 1890. Between 1890 and 2013, we had several queens.

Since it is an actual holiday dedicated to it tomorrow in my country, I guess I have to go with:

27th of April 1941 – World War II: The Communist Party of Slovenia, the Slovene Christian Socialists, the left-wing Slovene Sokols (also known as "National Democrats") and a group of progressive intellectuals establish the Liberation Front of the Slovene Nation.

April 30th 1975 Fall of Saigon to the North Vietnamese. People in Vietnam celebrate it as national day while Vietnamese refugees see it as a day of mourning the loss of freedom, democracy and country.
