Would you like to see a history themed group for steamgifts?
During the Dust Bowl, people sewed clothes out of flour sacks when money was tight. When flour distributers heard about this, they made their bags more colorful so the subsequent clothing would be more attractive. Always lookin' out!

If I remember correctly, tomorrow is the first time black citizens in SA were allowed to vote and some years before that Mussolini was captured by some militias... dunno why I remember this two things now, but meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it.

Knowing history is something great but todat unfortunately it's nearly impossible to read it from non-sided source.

I think there was never a non-sided source. History is always written by the winners. So you there is a Need for many sources to build our "own truth". But you are right, nowadays it is a common strategy to shitpost so much wrong things, that you have also doubts for the right things. (Tactic of confusion = there is no truth)

This is too true. The only reason Edison has more "credit" than Tesla is because Edison had J.P. Morgan while Tesla only had Westinghouse backing him.
And thank you for the giveaways.

From what I understand Tesla was backed by JP Morgan Untill JP Morgan found out Tesla was trying to bring about Free electricity for all with the Wardenclyffe Tower

Let me post another freedom related date in Portugal, but it was celebrated yesterday: The Carnation Revolution.
It basically marks the end of an era of dictatorship in my country.

Bom dia! I've been to Lisbon last year. My guide told us a story about this revolution, we were sitting in Lisbon if front of Convento do Carmo. It was thrilling, we heard in his voice that he was very proud about it. Thank you for reminding me this. Muito obrigado.

Olá !! :D
Yes it was really remarkable for several reasons (for example no violence was required) and it really marked the turning point in the development in the portuguese society.
I hope that you liked visit the city !
Até à próxima e cumprimentos.

something more. the order of killing mussolini came from "above", but not by recognized official authorities. the PCI, (italian communist party, the "longa manus" of the urss in italy and west europe), started the events that led to the sad death of mussolini, de facto violating the terms of the armistice which imposed the delivery of mussolini alive to the allies to put him under process.

Thank You, Vaudi! I've been thinking a lot about rules in this group and I have some ideas already,
Well, on this day in 1945 Red Army reached Szczecin (in German - Stettin). In my opinion this is the most beautiful city in Poland (till 1945 it was German). I lived there and i loved this time.

Wanted to write the same as I live there but you were first. Very important date in the city's (and region's) history.

Technically part of Prussia since 1720 when Sweden ceded it to Prussia. And Prussia was then later member-state in Germany, which was in state-structure similar to what EU is with its individual member-states being in a federation of states, until 1933 when German nationalists and similar unjustly pushed through centralist approach and sort of abolished Prussia similarly to how it would be if EU would claim Belgium to be as if property of some alleged EU-nation with no individual right to existence.

I remember the 94 elections. I was 12 at the time - there was a wonderful atmosphere that day :)

Yeah I was about the same age. I remember it well.

There are only few days in the whole life when you can feel that history is written right now. For me, one of those days was the falling of the Berlin Wall. I think that is also the reason why I and lot of germans have a special relationship to David Hasselhoff. ;-)

Hi all,
I try to learn more and more about steamgifts. Today I try with my first little sgtool-protected train [lvl2, ticket at the end]
But this is not my main issue. In the last days I saw a lot of giveaways created by darla13 and they often had historical events in the descriptions. We talked a bit about history and thought: Maybe history could be a topic for a new group. What do you think about this idea?
If you want to bump this thread please do it with a historical Event with its date between now an 29/4. You could post links, your own opinion about an event, gifs, Pictures and so on. All is welcome.
I will start with an event as an example: From 26/4 till 29/4/1994 the first general elections in South Africa were held. This marks the end of the Apartheid. The 4/27 is now a public holiday: the Freedom Day
