Wanting to pick one or the other up here soon.

Having played Castlevania on 360 and DMC 3&4 (have not tried 5, may pick it up eventually), gotta say I am more impressed and interested to play Castlevania because of its superb plot, decent platformer mechanics, and adequate boss battles. People with their body filled with adrenaline might enjoy DMC more.

It's not DMC 5, it's a re-imagining.

DmC is the better action game mechanics wise hands down. It just plays better. That being said, the story is so weak. I'd personally wait until Castlevania goes for $10 on Amazon here soon, and pick that up. Also with preorders on steam for Lords of Shadow 2 beginning in January I'd want to play through the original just because the second one looks much improved (looks like an actual metroidvania)

I haven't played any of them D:

However, I HAVE played Castlevania 1, 3, and 4, and they are amazing. I plan on playing Symphony of the Night soon, which seems more similar to modern Castlevania games, but I would just recommend the series anyways.

to be fair you can't base if the 3d version will be good off the 2d versions. at lest they have made other castlevanias in 3d so this isn't the 1st attempt (normally the 1st 3d from 2d game if ok at best)

Wait, Lords of Shadow is 3D? .-.

Completely different, gamplay, universe, and developers.
It's dumb to compare them.

Konami doesn't develop them anymore? D:

Castlevania SotN is an old 2D style platformer that was originally for the PS1 and is some 20yrs old. 3D Castlevania games such as Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness are more modern comparisons. Though like the other person said, different developers, gameplay and universe than the DmC games so it would be unfair to compare them.

I bought Castlevania few days ago for 4 tf2 keys, well worth it, I'm only about 3 hours into the game but I really like it so far.

I'd say DmC out of those two, but in terms of Hack and Slash games in general I'd recommend DMC 3 and 4 (however the PC version of 3 is terrible, I actually emulated the PS2 version) and, in a few weeks, Metal Gear Rising, assuming the port is any good.

Played both on 360. Castlevania is far better. Never finished DmC because the story was soo terrible.

Thanks for the comments so far. Looks like my timing was fortuitous. Castlevania for sale on Steam now. Wondering if it'll go lower on Amazon later. Probably a $5.99-7.50 buy by summertime.

I'm leaning towards Castlevania since y'all have mentioned a better storyline. I much prefer a good story, even if it has some flaws.

Patrick Stewart is the narrator. Need I say more?

Edit: And one of my favorite twist endings of any game ever.

DMC4 beats the 3D Castlevania games, from what I've played (Lots of DMC4, little Castlevania). DmC is... interesting.

DmC is mediocre in gameplay (at best) and absolutely awful in almost every other way, not to mention an insult to an amazing series. The story is stupid (while trying to be "deep"), the writing is painfully juvenile, the characters (except maybe Kat) are thoroughly unlikable... The only compliment I can really give it is that some of the level design is pretty neat.

Lords of Shadow, whilst not every fan's idea of what a Castlevania game should be, is at least competent in most areas.

I haven't played Castlevania but -anything- in my opinion would be better than DmC: Devil May Cry.
On the other hand if you replace that with DMC 3 and 4, then it stops mattering what Castlevania is because nothing can match those (fanboyism, yaaay). ;)

I loved Castlevania. Its a very long SP game (compared to most). Great voice acting. The downside is the camera is static, but you get used to it. Its a really good game.

DmC I have, but I've not gotten around to it yet.

Snagged a Steam key for Castlevania on Nuuvem for about $7.35USD. Not bad. Thanks for the input y'all.
