I recently bought a Nintendo 2DS and I decided to buy a protective case for it. This is the case in question. It came in the mail today and it REEKS of cigarette smoke. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks in advance.

fight fire with fire....err...smoke with smoke. Is there a type of smoke smell like? I'd use hickorywood personally, but I'm sure somebody will suggest mesquite (or ugg/eyeroll the ganjapot but ignore those guys)

I had a similair thing. My regular 3ds also had the cigarete smell but after a while ( A couple months) you will notice that its smells better. I hope yours will become better soon :)

Or...rent an ozone machine and bomb the whole house/apt/flat. Just set the case right next to it. :)

Get one of the smoker's candles from walmart and rub that over it. Or just set it outside to air out in the sun.

Wet cloth with some diluted fabric softener. Wipe thoroughly. Store in a container with baking soda for at least a few days.

Or buy febreeze.

I had the same with a Xbox controller I bought second hand. If it doesn't bother you too much just use it and after a while the smell will vanish. For you to smell it the smoke molecules need to be in the air, so obviously more and more of them are releasing from your 2DS until or very few are left over. Additionally if you are seating a lot those molecules will dissolve into your sweat and the smell will vanish even faster.

I think sticking it in a bag with activated carbon works too.

Well if the person didn't say it was from a smoke free house it's fine. Also new condition means that it works perfectly fine and there are no problems with the device. The smell of it doesn't effect it.

"New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging"

I don't know what kind of package this usually comes in, but if it's plastic, the smell shouldnt be able to permeate in.

Your definition and my definition of "new" appears to differ greatly.

You purchased a "Brand-New" which means the smell is not the smell of a brand new item.. I would return and get somewhere else, false representation on that guys part.

hm...can you put it into a washing machine?

or send it back - there is nothing stated about sending toxic waste along on the article page

Press it against your nose and inhale deeply, repeatedly. You want to effectively suck out the smoke from the case and transfer to your lungs.

Otherwise, I guess you could consider some of the ideas above. Frankly, if it's not too much of a hassle, I'd return it. The person selling it is clearly a wanker and doesn't deserve your money.

Seriously, maybe stick it in a bag with those odor eaters used for shoes? Also, I thought charcoal has some odor-eating characteristics. Baking soda might work, too.
