During the lunar events you could get themed emoticons, the 'Pig in a Blanket' emote was the first 'in a blanket' type emote, that started it all. The next year the 'Rat in a blanket' emote was in the lunar sale. In terms of why, it's a cool emoticon, so many people went for it.

The emotes are to do with the Chinese horoscope animals, hence, the emoticons appear during the lunar new year.
